    Hi all Bukkit.org users!

I am currently in the market for a dedicated server located in the US with around 24 GB of ram, a decent processor capable of running multiple servers and a price within $150 a month..
Please reply here if this is possible.

24GB? That's not going t0 be easy for $150 AND in the USA. Even DataShack or VolumeDrive can't do that...

http://www.server4you.com/root-server/ is $140, but I consider them the same as I consider VolumeDrive... Still, it might be a good choice, as it's fairly solid hardware. The $160 offer might be a better choice since it has a SSD...

If you drop it down to 16GB of RAM, there are a bunch more offers in your price range.

I wouldn't recommend Server4You for anything, while they're cheap, they are also rather horrible. I would recommend Hetzner, or Kimsufi/OVH.

    Hetzner, yes.

Kimsufi is no different from Server4You imho. Although, I set up someone's dedi from there for him, and it's not bad in terms of hardware, they use lightly used drives and fairly modern CPUs. The dealbreaker for me is the France location, the only reason I'd go overseas is if I went with Hetzner, who has slightly better latency to me and deals actually worth using a German host for. At this point however, if DataShack keeps up at its current pace it'll end up becoming very close in terms of pricing... Not to mention the OVH Canada DC being built!

    OVH, yes.

For $140 you can get an E3-1230 wih 16GB RAM and a good HDD from Razorservers.

Pretty sure they are having a sale soon too.

Thanks a lot for the tips! ;)

Really appreciate it.. And it looks like i'm going with Server4You

Did you go with them yet?

I would avoid...they get tons of bad reviews and even Server4Us best server has absolutely horrible hardware. Athlon Quad.......may have 4 cores, but more cores does not make it better, as Minecraft uses one core max. In Passmark it gets smoked by modern dual cores with ease. 5400 RPM drive...slow and I would recommend at least a 7200 RPM drive.

Check out Datashack, they offer around the same price for WAY better hardware. You can get a i5 2400 which is about double the power overall and about 4 times than that weak Athlon II quad for $89.

You get better latency with Hetzner?

I get around 15-20 ms less latency than Hetzner with OVH from the central United States.

Yeah, I'm not talking about the network, I'm talking about hardware.

    Usually, yes...

However, I seem to be getting better latency to OVH now... Lol, I guess things changed recently.

    :)

That seems more like it! 20 ms less.

    Hi Nathan,
I was thinking about going with their UltraPOWER package.. What do you think of that?

Nice, do you have fiber or the like?

I'm still on ancient DSL, the best I can muster is this.

    Code:
    PING a304.net (216.231.138.244): 56 data bytes
    64 bytes from 216.231.138.244: icmp_seq=0 ttl=56 time=33.356 ms
    64 bytes from 216.231.138.244: icmp_seq=1 ttl=56 time=31.802 ms
    64 bytes from 216.231.138.244: icmp_seq=2 ttl=56 time=32.093 ms
    64 bytes from 216.231.138.244: icmp_seq=3 ttl=56 time=32.604 ms
    64 bytes from 216.231.138.244: icmp_seq=4 ttl=56 time=32.354 ms

    --- a304.net ping statistics ---
5 packets transmitted, 5 packets received, 0.0% packet loss
    round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 31.802/32.442/33.356/0.529 ms

Honestly, I think you shouldn't have a problem with it. The CPU *is* a little weak and the drives are 5400RPM, but it's a insane deal and should serve you well.

As a added plus, two drives and a SSD is a great deal. It's a pity that it's not on a gigabit line though.

Actually MisterPixels, you should go with this. i7-2600, dual 500GB drives, 64GB SSD, 16GB RAM for $10/month less than Server4You. A much faster network also.
