It is with great pleasure today that we announce to you the release of Guardian Alpha.
The full guide to Guardian can be found on our BukkitDev page , however a brief history of our project and our aims.
    Origin
The idea for a unified grief tracking and rollback system was not a new one, but it came to play in the beginning of September (2011) aiming to be the culmination of all Hawkeye and Logblock's efforts, a joint effort by oliverw92 and DiddiZ was made. It was resolved that Guardian would be the future, it would take the best features from both Logblock and Hawkeye then roll them into one neat package. The project went off to a good start, commits were flowing freely to Github and a new author, md_5 was added to the team. Things were going smoothly and it seemed a release was imminent, however then changes to our team started to occur. oliverw92 found himself with very little time outside of his studies and DiddiZ seemed to be unable to find time. Nevertheless we plowed on. It is now months later that Guardian rises yet again from the dead and with the addition of 7H3LaughingMan to the team.
    Current Status
Inspired by the original Guardian brief we now have an Alpha release of Guardian. Feel free to test it at your own free will, it currently logs block flow, destroy, place, and fade. We recommend using it in conjunction with your current logging plugin, however it fully supports Logblock style searching and queries, with a Hawkeye style database backend.

Yay ! I feel the awesomeness coming from this topic :]

I have one question, though. You recommended to use the plugin in conjunction with our actual logging plugin. Can I assume it is almost safe to run it on a production server ? Or should I keep it on a test server only for the time being ?

It is safe for a production server, but it doesn't log everything, ie Chest Access or player interact so if you want to catch ALL the griefers then you still need LogBlock or Hawkeye.

Erm I hate to be a killjoy, but is there anything regarding permissions with this plugin? Or did I perhaps miss something in config files? Because I just had one of my normal users test it and he was able to roll me back.

Nevertheless, nice to see this finally coming out :p

Well hey at least its out now right? Permissions should be fairly easy to fix (based on my experience anyways) :p tbh I'm surprised I'm the first person to have caught it :V
Also: would it be possible to implement something along the lines of /guardian tb like in logblock? Since not all our moderators have creative to access blocks like sponge or, in our case, bedrock. Or did I miss something in config/two in the morning amnesia? :p

    Edit: Thanks.

Also: not sure if this is something on my end (removing any possible conflicting plugins like logblock next server restart to see) but I keep getting this error in console regarding mysql?

Edit: Just realized there's a ticket system and that it has been resolved already. My bad :x

Permissions don't seem to work with PEX, however '*' does..
Just a heads up, i can do with just admins being able to use it, but nice if mods can too :p

EDIT: (I do have the .jar which claims permissions support)

Oops, guardian.rollback should be fine. Uploading another jar with guardian.lookup as the permission.

Let the bug fixing commence !

It's nice to see such a long standing WIP actually come to something anyway :D

Does it update the position of sand if it falls like I suggested :D :D ?

Why is this better than HawkEye or LogBlock? For example hawkeye has a preview of the rollback.

This is new and will be maintained for a good while whereas the others have died. It's basically the same as LogBlock at the moment.

Implementing the preview of a rollback like Hawkeye does is great, please add this later on.

Alright, before the next release (hopefully within 12hours)
Proper tool integration (disable specific tool, give the tool via command)
    Clean up and document Permissions
Add a way for us to manage database schema changes
And maybe fix rollback a bit
EDIT: And a new proper debug command

    Please ? /me looks hopeful

People know that falling sand does not rollback so that's what they use. You can get the position that sand falls from and to and MySQL supports UPDATE. Join it all together :D

Do you have any idea of when those two features will be implemented? Chest griefers piss me off.

Also, that person before that mentioned a preview of the rollback... if that's a possible feature as well, it'd be AMAZING.

Other than that, I've been waiting for this to release for so freaking long. I first started researching advanced griefing countermeasures after my server underwent a major griefer strike last year (was relatively easy to fix because we keep backups of the world file, but we still lost a great deal of work from that day), and that's when I discovered BigBrother, which then led me to LogBlock and Hawkeye. And at that very moment is when I discovered that two days earlier, development of Guardian had begun. I have been waiting for it since and I am enthralled to see it's out now. Very good job. =)

One last question - I haven't used any of them yet, but I am aware that BB's rollback function tended to cause lag much like large WorldEdit operations. How does Guardian work so far?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Chest Logging should be in the latest release, TheLaughingMan was working hard on that.
