Plugin Authors: How to hook into Permissions​

Permissions 2.x is being discontinued! 3.0 can be found HERE!!!


I am discontinuing Permissions 2.x and leaving the project. Permissions is not going away though! Since 2.6 I have been working closely with another developer and added them to the team. For the past several version they have not only been assisting with 2.x but also doing a lot of the development of much anticipated 3.x. rcjrrjcr will be taking over as lead developer of Permissions from 3.x forward. I have full faith in them and after working closely with them on the development on the last few version and the next major version I feel that I am leaving this project in more than capable hands. I put way to much work into this project to just leave it with anyone, and this is one of the few programs that I am incredibly proud of.

Many people will probably wonder why I am leaving again after taking over the project just a few months ago. I could quote drama and headaches, of which there were quite a few with this project. Unfortunately real life happens. Many people already know that I have been having medical issues here lately. Unfortunately while they have gotten better, they have not gone away. This coupled with other real life commitments, going to school full time, and starting up my own company, I am currently in the process of being laid off from work. At this point I have so much stuff going on in my life and am being pulled in so many directions that I am not able to get any work done on anything. This has lead to me missing commitments and letting people down on multiple things.

Permissions is also a very high maintenance plugin that requires a lot of attention and time. Right now I am not able to devote that time and do not feel it is fair for me to try to continue to be the lead developer on it. I had originally thought that adding other members to the team would be helpful, but unfortunately this just lead to frustration for them and myself as I just was not able to commit to the project enough. Hence, 3.0 has been rewritten almost exclusively by rcjrrjcr with minimal contributions by myself.

At this point I will be stepping away from the project to focus more on real life and to try to free up some time for other projects and to work with more individual like the wonderful HeroCraft Coding team to fulfill some commitments that I made to them a long time ago and sadly did not come through on. I feel that this is the best for all involved, both myself and the other Permissions developers, as well as the community who deserve someone who can contribute more time and attention to them and supporting them. I do not want to see Permissions end up like many other plugins with an absentee programmer and just slowly wasting away from a great plugin with a lot of potential to a headache with no support.

I will still be active in the community, just not as much as not in the same way. I'm sure my server will be more than happy to have their head admin back and active again as well.

I cant get the Permissions to work i tired using someone file but it didnt work i dont get errors but when i log in it dosent show me as admin

That's a comment, comments are ignored by the program as it's executed. GroupUsers/Permissions both use (almost) exactly the same configuration file. This configuration file works for both, that's why that line is there.

Alright. I assumed that was the case but I thought I would ask. Also, using 2.5.3 now, I removed CraftIRC so it wouldn't load, the error relating to it disappears and no more errors appear while the console starts. then users are given abilities they didn't have before (such as the /back command).

I'm looking more into this right now, seeing if maybe it was just a one time fluke, as I didn't test it in much depth.

For those who are helping here and giving advise what to do,
we could refer to the guide. That would be a start ...
But it has to be more complete then it is now. I haven't touched
topics like overloading and inheritance failure. Or the multiworld
support. Some things i have to learn/test for myself first.

They have everything, just started fooling around with it to test it. I'm sure it's something off in my configuration, seeing as I'm using the one from the 2.0 Permissions. I'm just going to remake it from scratch and see if that'll fix it.

still no change... same error...

I don't understand. Mod inherits from engineer, which inherets from citizen.
I did change the inheritance of citizen in my permissions YML from "Guest" to nothing. I forgot I removed that rank. I also removed the carriage returns in between my groups but no worky worky. My original permission layout (the one you see there) WAS working early yesterday, but died...

Question: I'm sure someone's already asked this, but is there a list of the "general" nodes that we can use for the built-in OP commands? I've seen "general.spawn" and "general.time", but it'd be nice if there was a complete list.

 

This plugin does not provide any commands. As such there are no nodes for the built in commands such as /give and /time. When you see general.spawn and general.time those are actually refering to the plugin labeled General.

More than likely you didn't setup Permissions correctly. It's not finding a configuration file for the default world. Make sure to rename it from config.yml to <worldname>.yml

 

so iv made my bukkit server, done all my plugins and iv made my permissions, i can do all commands since im admin which works fine, but my friend is a moderator he cant do any of the commands down for moderators, any ideas, ill post my permission file below, im stitchaa and the moderator friend is linkintheory69 please help, everytime he types a command it says he doesnt have permission for it

look i really dont wunna got back to unoficial hmod so PLZ help me out. no matter what variation of the yml file i do for permissions when in game i cant use the mods that require permissions and when i type /permissions it doesnt list my permissions. yes the yml file has the same name as my current world and as for the config of it http://pastebin.com/9FuiH3Yd i used the one the jandalf sent me and all i did was add the permissions to the ones under owner and renamed the owner(jandalf) to my name(prismweed) but as expected no results and ive been working on this for days. anyone who hosts a server for themselves and/or a small group of friends knows how frustrating it can be when u have tons of mods that would be sweet if only it werent for sumthing small and mundane like permissions not working for them. help would more then appreciated cuz im at my limit with trying to get this work and seeing as almost all mods require it idk what im gunna do.

does this -> - '/listach' work ?

it would say you give permission to type //listach instead of normal use of plugin commands /listach
I don't know if the plugin requires it to be like this otherwise it could be the source of (some) problems.
