how to get more memory for my server

    i have 2 GB ram, 32 bit os
    i am only getting to use 247 mb of memory for my server
    my server is at 240/247 and sometimes hits the 247
    then i get exceptions and my server goes down

    how do i get more memory for my server?
    i need a detailed explanation please like a step by step instruction.

    What OS are you using? What commands are you using in your bat file (the file you use to start the server)? Are you playing minecraft on your server computer?
    Assuming your not using anything special to run the server and you are using a stock bat file, trying something as simple as adding -server may improve your performance. Best bet would be to invest in an additional 2gb of ram, depending on how much ram you are using running everything other than minecraft.

    i want to ask the same thing but it only seam to use only around 200mb
    i thought this was normal

    java -Xincgc -Xmx1G -jar craftbukkit-1.0.1-R1.jar

    You don't need more ram the server "allocates" what it needs for how many players there are and how much chunk loading is going on. If more users login more ram will be used. We run a server with over 25 connected most of the time. We never use over 1.5 GB of ram. And we have like 40 plugins.
