Hello. I could have sworn I had seen something a while back where you could run your Bukkit server as a service (on a Windows machine), and then telnet to the console or use a web interface to run it. I have been doing some Google searching as well as a couple of searches on the forums, but have not been to locate any information on this. Am I on drugs, or is this a possibility?

    Windows or Linux?
https://github.com/Ahtenus/minecraft-init talks about what to do for Linux.
For Windows I don't know how to add it as a service, but you can open hklm\software\microsoft\windows\current version\run in regedit and add an entry for your startup script.

Adding an item to the system run key will make it start on boot.

You will need to have a startup script that doesn't need any input to start.

Or you could make a shortcut for the script in your startmenu/startup directory and it will start up when you login.
If you have auto login setup, the second way may be easier.

This will run the Bukkit Server console though correct?

Basically what I am trying to accomplish is to run the server as a service so that the console window does not appear, thus the need to telnet to access the console. I have myself and another person who administers the server. If the Bukkit Server were to crash or stop unexpectedly, we wouldn't have to worry about who's session the console is running in, we could simply stop and restart the service.

Currently, I have it setup to run at start up via the Start menu start up directory.

It will run it however your startup script tells it to run. So if you had one that could do that it would work...but I have always used linux for mincraft so I can't think of much else unfortunately. Someone else should wander by before too long though.

Simply adding the start batch file to the registry will NOT start the server at boot. in fact it does nothing.

Anyone know how to do this? i would like to as well.

I recommend YAMS. It's still in development, but it works nicely and comes with a nice web administrating panel as well, and supports as many servers as you need.
