Hello, i will be buying vds, then rb will be released and at least 50% of plugins which i use will be updated never mind, so that vds will have:
    CPU: Xenon 7 Ghz
    RAM: 7 Gb
abot storage don't really now, but i hope it will be SSD
OS: Linux 32 or 64 bit
Virtualisation: OpenVZ (don't really know what is that)
It will also have RAID by default
So will i be able to improve it more? And which OS choose? 32 or 64 bit version?
Oh and last question, will be there any problems in moving server files from my computer to vds and launching a server? Because had problems with debian, then i uploaded through ftp server files and tried to launch server, plugins wasn't loading...
    Thanks for info

64 bit, otherwise you won't be able to use that full 7 GB of RAM. Go for more RAM for the biggest improvement, or a faster Internet connection.

In VPS's, they just add up the core clock speeds. Just 3 cores at 2.25 Ghz or something close to that.

Chances are he will not even get to use a fraction of a core anyway with a VPS.

Why not go with a VDS rather than a VPS? This way you get a box to yourself, more memory - usually 16gigs and there won't be any other servers on your box.

Forgot to say, internet connection 100 mbps, about 7 Ghz i don't really know how they do that, you can choose from 2 to 16 Ghz just look here dedikuoti.lt it's in lithuanian language, but you should find it,, (Procesorius means Cpu, Atmintis - RAM, Disko vieta - Disk space, hdd space or something, Pralaidumas: Internet connection.) I'm thinking about more RAM, maybe up to 10 GB

You better figure out how they calculate the cpu speed you get.
For MC single core speed matters. Additional cores don't add much.

Anyways, with that much ram it's a waste to not use a ram disk.
It really does wonders for MC servers.

64bit OS and 64bit java is absolutely essential too.

Thanks, but will i have any problems if i create server on my windows xp and then upload server files to hosting?

There shouldn't be much of an issue.
You'll just need a .bat file for windows and .sh for Linux, but that's a minor thing.
Line endings on configuration files are important, but most file transfer software already will consider that, especially FTP.

Sounds like another overselling VPS company to me.

I would imangine his CPU is: 3.7 GHz
    RAM: 7GB - Overkill, but i'll work.
Storage: You don't want SSD. SSD is great, fast but dies so quick espcially with the R/W of minecraft
OS: 64Bit if you are wanting to use the whole 7GB without having a funk-kernel install.
Virtuliastion - OpenVZ is a piece software that allows you to allocate memory, processor speed, hard drive space to create a "virtual server". Not to be confused with a "VDS".

And you upload, edit any files like you would normally do either using SFTP (on *nix) or an FTP Server.

I don't think you understand what a VDS.

They're pretty much the same, though a VDS is allocated on creation so you cannot oversell a VDS like you can a VPS.

I know exactly what a VDS is (Virtual Dedicated Server). My host (Nuclear Fallout) offers the service, they call it a VDS and by their description you get the entire box to yourself and can run as many servers from it as you wish, each server you run gets its own IP. They Manage the box for you and it is done through their web interface or FTP

Yes, same thing as a VPS. Although with NFOservers, you get a dedicated hyper-threaded core. Definitely more powerful than average VPS's out there, but is still run off XEN, which is a VPS. A VPS is just a virtual machine on a dedicated server box, but has the same functionality of a dedicated server.

Used to use NFOservers VPS's and I have to say they are far more powerful than 90% of the other VPS's out their.

Thanks for the info, I guess I was misunderstanding it.... Anyways yes I LOVE NFO, they are by far the best host I've ever used.

I have to agree. NFOserver is an outstanding host!

If it's the whole box, it's not virtual.
