In a perfect world, what do you look for in a RPG plugin?

Ideally, what would be in the perfect RPG plugin. I am currently developing a plugin called GuildCraft and I would like to know what the community looks for in a good RPG plugin. I have several ideas in progress and GuildCraft will have skills, races, quests, an economy, and much more!

Let me know what you look for in an RPG plugin.

Actual roleplaying, but that's not something a plugin can effectively enforce :/

Actually... I was thinking of implementing languages. So when talking to your own race its normal but other races here it as a different language. Would that do it for you?

It would most likely be a cool feature, yeah.
Interpreter class, yeah, that sounds pretty cool.

If this is possible, this would be a great feature to create. And possibly have a diplomatic person who can understand other languages. I'm not sure how they would become one though.

Okay ... added to the todo list. Anything else you would like to see?

Depends what you are going for in your RPG. Most RPG/mmo plugins have a strong focus on pvp and some pve, while my server is more a building/pve focus (I even tried forcing pvp one world using Factions but after a day everyone went "Lets be friends!"). For my server the perfect rpg plugin would focus on those things.

The other question is what style of rpg is it, are you going for a sandbox type like Star Wars Galaxies pre NGE or Eve online, or something more theme park like Wow/rift/almosteveryothermmo.

Also be careful about recreating the wheel. There are many perfectly good economy and quest plugins out there that you might want to use as dependencies instead of writing your own implementation.

Also, Careers by SwearWord is a good example of a plugin that does a different take on how players interact with each other instead of strait up pvp.

    @croxis
This would fall under "Wow/rift/almosteveryothermmo" xD But what I'm doing is making my own versions of systems I view as flawed, and correcting them. I HATE dependencies. It's just something about me I can't change. I will be doing a softdepend for the skill system with mcMMO and economy with iConomy (but I am doing object oriented economy), but other then that I want to do my own take.

I'm one of those server owners who will pass over a plugin if it tries to do things I already have. I only got a gig of ram no need to have two plugins that do the same thing!

A valid point. I will reconsider.

@Walker Crouse I realize you just said you hate dependencies, but I will go on with my suggestion none the less. I would like new weapons. In every RPG there are loads of weapons, some for just show, and others that have a real use. This of course would be dependent of Spout.

Now if you are not considering the above, then don't continue reading (read the last few words where I might say thanks for your time etc, but if you listened to what I said (the don't read further) than you already broke my rule :( !) I don't like the idea of Race (or class) specific weapons. So instead of making it so a Race can't use a certain weapon, they lose some attack power. I'm sure there would be a lot more to think about if you were to add new weapons, however look at this as a catalyst. Thanks for reading at least the first section of this (if you even did that) know idea how to finish this.

New weapons have already been created, they will be used for specialized weapons for races.

Weapon enchantments/reinforcement would be cool. Like, put a weapon in a furnace with x and get a weapon that does more damage.

Well, i like the idea of it having no dependencies, although i would like it to be compatible with a few things, for example Citizens...for example you said it was gonna have quests...so maybe you can right click on the Citizens "Quester" NPC and it can give you quests via GUI?

Edit: Or maybe....you can create your own NPC types as Citizens allows this :)

Any NPCs will most likely come after initial release.

I look for perfection as in a perfect world everything would be perfect to everyone's standards and tastes.

I was looking this up earlier today. Is a Town system included like (WoW nerd for 5 years, quit recently) Main areas? or dungeons, etc? Because I'm thinking that this will send you around collecting sand.

When you add NPC's after initial release you should make your own types but make citizens optional, would be epic to have NPC's with GUI's instead of text/command related functions..especially for Quest NPC's.

What gave you that idea? I am thinking about generated massive dungeons, but no promises (I'm not planning on a town system, if you mean something like Towny)
As for the NPCs I am planning to have these on release and I though of an awesome system today. More about that later and possibly a video. :) (You're idea is on the right track... kinda)

Thank you, can you get rid of the nameplates on NPC's please? maybe have explanation marks for Quester NPCs?

    Just a suggestion :)

Well what exactly are the quests like? Because I was considering installing spout just for this plugin, it seemed it had everything I wanted. ^^

I have not started quests yet, but the goal is to not make them generic and probably configurable. I have a good idea but I'm not ready to share it because it might/might not happen.

    • Good, working economy.
    • NPC's
    • Questing
    • Classes with conditions, like what Heroes does
    • Titles, ranks and more
