Im very new to running minecraft servers. I made one last week for just me and my 2 other friends to play on. We had a lot of fun on it but then someone we knew told us to get a bukkit server to play on for plugins and such. i downloaded the bukkit server and did everything right. I ran the bat file and it loaded up a world for me. Problem is my friends cant join. I was thinking about it and i realized my OLD non-bukkit server files are still on my desktop. And Im thinking i cant run the bukkit server becuase the old non-bukkit server is using that port so my friends cant connect to the bukkit server? Im afraid to delete the Non-bukkit files because if i cant get this bukkit server to work, im just going to stick with the old minecraft server. I have been looking for answers for days. some have said things about killing a java program that is running my old server so the bukkit server can use that port without being blocked by the old one? i need help please. like i said m fairly new to this but i do understand most of what is happening. tl;dr How do i get rid of my non-bukkit server so my friends can connect to my bukkit server. thanks in advance.
I had to port forward the port in the old minecraft server and when i tried port forwarding again for the new bukkit server, it gave me a message saying that i cant forward the same port twice soooo im thinking i already have the port forwarded. Oh and when i have the bukkit server running, i can connect by typing in "localhost" and "xxx-xxx-x-x:25565" but my friends cant =/ EDIT by Moderator: merged posts, please use the edit button instead of double posting.
1. Did you give your friends your external ip? 2. http://canyouseeme.org/ Use that to see if your ports are still open 3. Check "server.properties" for any errors
yes it said it was open. do i have to delete all my files from the non-bukkit server for my friends can connect to the new bukkit server?
hm? i r confused, just do this 1. Create new folder 2. Put in craftbukkit files 3. start up server 4. and it should work properly
You can choose a different port to run on in server.properties for the bukkit server. Forward that port and it should work. Instead of the default 25565, my server is ported 1337.
