    Koolsource Presents: Android Minecraft Stats
    Version 0.1

Koolsource Android Minecraft Stats is a plugin which provides server statistics that can be viewed from a phone, tablet or device which runs android. At the moment, the plugin only gathers statistics about how many people use your server throughout the day, but we hope to gather more useful statistics in future versions. If you have any suggestions, please write a reply, or contact us.

The graphs generated by the plugin (viewed on your phone) are useful for working out your server's busy and quiet spells. Knowledge of your peak hours can be useful for scheduling maintenance, or when a mod in a different time zone is required.

    Features (thus far):

    • Select a day on your phone to view server usage stats over the day.
    Download:

    Android Market: [ link ]
    Bukkit plugin: [ link ]

    Instructions:

    1. Download our bukkit plugin to your bukkit plugins folder.
    2. When the plugin is first loaded, it will place a config.yml file in the plugins/AndroidMcStats folder with some default settings.
    3. The username and password should be changed from the default for security reasons. If you change these settings, remember to do a 'reload' of the plugins on your server.
    From your android phone:

    1. Connect to your server using your hostname (or IP) and specified username, password and port using the android application.
    2. Use the menu.

This is beautiful, I've been looking for a player-per-hour plugin forever, and now to find one for android! Great.
My only suggestion is that you make the text a little bigger on the x and Y axis, It's slightly hard to read. And any other statistics would be cool. But for being this early in development, it's great. Thanks!

Can you make an iPhone app too?

@Jackzilla88 I felt the same way, and while I was making the plugin I thought that perhaps I might be the only person who found it useful. I'm happy to see atleast one other person finds it useful, too! :).

As for the axis text, I completely agree and will see what I can manage. It might turn out that the 'graph package' I use to render the graphs might not support changing the sizes, but hopefully this won't be the case.

As for other statistics to gather, I am having a hard time coming up with ideas, but I'm sure something will come to me - or hopefully somebody will make a request.

@gameswereus Unfortunately, I do not have access to an iPhone, or any knowledge about iOS development. I'm not sure if you need an apple computer to develop for iOS; if this is the case, I don't have one. I may be able to 'outsource' this task to a friend who does, but probably not... I'll see what I can manage.

    Cheers,

I would be interested to see an aggregate of how many hours a specific player plays total, and avg for day/week/month, and maybe server-wide numbers like that too. I imagine that kind of data would probably require a database though, so I don't know how complicated you want this to get.

Thanks for the feedback - that sounds like a great idea! Fortunately, the plugin already uses a database (albeit SQLite). However, I'll have to spend some time considering how best to implement such a feature, but it certainly is feasible.

I'm not sure when I will chose to work on it, as we (Koolsource) also have some ideas for our other plugin - and even an idea for a new plugin... We're kind of new at this whole plugin release and maintaining process, and I guess we're learning that we need to plan how to manage our time between managing our server, updating plugins and our personal lives. That may sound negative, but it's also exciting!

Thanks again for your great feedback :)

One more question - how long are stats kept in the database? Depending on how long they stay there it would be useful to have other views than just a single day, such as by week or month to get a better idea of long-term trending.

I'm having two problems with it. My Nexus S only connects to the server when using 3g. If i'm using WiFi it instantly tells me it can't connect. Also, when I connect through 3g in the console it says "/<phones ip> has lost connection" immediately after connecting. Oh also when that happens the Android Application needs to be force closed. Hope you can fix these issues. If you need anymore information just let me know.

Are you using your wifi on a local LAN to where your server is hosted? If so, it's likely the IP is different due to NAT. Are you connecting using a web address or ip address? If you're using a web address, you can probably set up your local LAN DNS to point that address to your local IP for the server, allowing access over wifi.

  13. I cannot connect to the plugin at all, when i do a reload of the server i get this issue
[INFO] andstats: IO Exception while trying to accept socket

And there is no difference if i change the port in the config file. Any idea?

This has not been updated for a long time, that would explain your issues
