    Permissions 3.0
Rcjrrcjr has been working quite hard on this upgrade to Permissions. However, it currently still suffers from a number of bugs. The most important of these which directly affects HeroChat is the non-functioning of prefixes and suffixes. There are less-than-pretty workarounds, but I'm refraining from fully supporting an update until Permissions 3.1 is released which should include a number of significant bug fixes. When this does occur, however, I have a build ready for you guys that should work. You can download it here. Again, I highly suggest not using this until Permissions 3.1 is released unless you really don't care about prefixes and such.

See you when I get back!

Is your config resetting when you make changes?
If you make changes to the config while the server is running, you need to use the /ch reload command to make the changes stick. I wish this message wasn't necessary, but people only seem to read things in big, bold, red text (if at all).

Have a problem? a feature request? Go here.
HeroChat now has its very own redmine found here. If you have an issue or would like to suggest a new feature, I urge you to file it via redmine. I will be checking this much more often than this thread from here on out.

Move your users.yml file to a safe directory outside of the plugins folder and do /ch reload; see if that helps. This error is happening when HeroChat tries to get the active channel of a player - they might be assigned to an invalid channel. If that doesn't work then the problem might be something else - I have to test HeroChat with 1060 and I have not yet, but I don't think there where any changes that would just cause this.

The best way to do that is to use prefix and suffix; at the moment the only option to make that work is to downgrade to Permissions 3.1.6 from PermissionsBukkit.

Failing that, add "force: true" to all your channel configs, and make sure no groups are restricted from using any channels. That way, all users will be forced to see all channels at all times, but they only talk into the channel they are focused on (i.e. which channel their messages go to). You cannot force them to focus on a specific channel though, they'll have to use /ch <channelname> to get into the right one.

EDIT: You can use the speak: permission to assign which groups can talk where, and your join: should always be empty ("[]") so that everyone can see all the channels. Again, since PermissionsBukkit doesn't support groups, you will need Permissions 3.1.6 (for now). 5.0 will very likely support Superperms/PermissionsBukkit when it is done.

Look into the message formatting options as well, that may be helpful for what you are trying to accomplish. The HeroChat Configuration Wiki has lots of good information.

If PermissionsBukkit is the issue, why not make prefixes, suffixes, and titles defined in the <username>.yml file HeroChat creates?

I've used HeroChat for many months, and this is the first time I hear of this file.

Can anyone test this out if it works with BukkitPerms/SuperPermsbridge?

inherently no support for SuperPerms/Bukkit as none of them support Prefix/Suffix/Info Nodes. - it's just not possible without a complete re-write.

HeroChat 5 is reported to be supporting SuperPerms which is needed in PermissionsBukkit. I'm holding off on PermissionsBukkit while fighting an uphill battle with read time outs on the server (Permissions 3.1.x is suspect).

We've already posted about this many times. DThielke was busy with Heroes, it was released, and immediately it needed more work, including updating to SuperPerms. Work has been done on 5.0, but it is not yet complete and DThielke has had to concentrate his time elsewhere, both on other more pressing projects and on his life outside the Bukkit community.

This is how it will likely be handled, except it will be in config.yml not users.yml. Users.yml is used to track your players' status and should never be edited by hand.

I cant seem to figure this out, im an admin, yet for some reason im in all channels at once, /ch join isnt even a command.

on top of that it keep changing autojoin to true, on one server i was able to do /ch g to join global, cant do it now, not even a command, nothing shows up, and there is no fix for why i am still in all channels at once, cuz everytime i try to switch to any channel it says you are already in that channel.

I'm using this with PEX and having a problem.
    default-message-format: '{prefix} {player}: '
    That's my default message format.
And I set up prefix in permissions to look like '&b[Admin]&f'

Did I do this correctly, or not? I looked for an example of what I should be putting but couldn't find one.

If you want to stay on Perms 3.x and have the timeout issues, get the 3.2 dev build (somewhere in the perms thread), it fixes them 100%. It does make your server not stop properly on a /reload or /stop command, but it doesnt time out anymore while running.

Excited for 5.0 of HeroChat! ;)

If you want you can build 5.0 out of the experimental branch on github under Herocraft/HeroChat (it's still labeled at 4.10.3 in the plugin.yml, but there is a lot of new code). Still doesn't support SuperPerms but with PermissionsBukkit and SuperpermBridge it has minimum functionality (no prefixes or groups*); that being said I haven't tested it much other than to see if it loads; however it looks fairly complete. Be aware that at the moment it looks like CraftIRC support was removed as well; this might have been a response to CraftIRC not being updated for a while but now that it is working it might be coming back, or they might be revising how CraftIRC ties in with HeroChat.

Either way, @Kainzo says it's alive, so I wouldn't have any doubts about the future of this whatsoever.

*SuperpermBridge might support groups because PermissionsBukkit has them, but I'm not sure off the top of my head.

How do you use it with PEX? I just want to make a colored prefix, I set it up but in-game the prefix doesn't show up so I don't think I set it up right.

I have a question about the separate-chat-log: false setting in config.yml. I don't seem to find any documentation on it, and i wonder if true and false is the only options? I would like to be able to have the chat logged both in the server.log and a separate chat.log. Is that possible or might it be added?

And thank you for a great plugin! I don't know how i ever lived without it.

We love herochat, but I'm having one issue with it.
I've got a moderator channel and its setup that moderator and above can go in. This works, we've never had any issues with it.
The problem is when I add a Moderator to a different group, say VIP. The person will still have all of the moderator commands, plus the vip bonuses, but for some reason they can't get into the Moderator channel, it says you cannot join this channel. It seems that it only reads the first group that the person is a part of?
    Any way to fix this??
    Thanks

For the time being, using PEX works perfectly with HeroChat. And PEX supports Bukkitperms as well, so you're good to go.

I personally think it would be easier to ask the BukkitPermissions Devs to include the Prefix field for this plugin to work properly. But of course they probably won't. Haven't looked at their plugin much as my reluctance to redo the nodes for BukkitPerm. I don't know to much about how it works. Also at looking into the jar's and how this plugin works, the only thing I could think of, which would be exhausting to do, would be to configure the plugin to have configurable "nodes" which the Server Owners would define. Kinda like Multiverse's portal nodes. But this would involve a massive recode. Then assign each group the node so they would have the prefix if they have that node. Also making the chat channel nodes to have certain players join a channel if they have permissions in the nodes. Its just a suggestion.
