So yeah, I looked around for a plugin like this and could not find anything close to it!
So I decided to make my own and submit it here as I thought I should give something back to the community. This is my first submission to Bukkit.org, so please don't flame me for it!
Working on the latest builds, no issues found as of yet, but if you find any, don't be afraid to shout!
If you have any requests, post them here and I'll be sure to let you know.

    Features:
    • Configurable Damage (See config files)
    • Picks up a current from up to two blocks away.
    • Does not cause spreadable fires.
    • Electric fences can be up to 10 high.
    1.4 Beta Features
    • Electrocutes players near the fence for a customizable amount of damage.
    • Option for a specific block the have to be under the electric fence (For example Iron Ore as suggested by a user)
    • Changes to the configuration file
NOTE: DELETE YOUR CONFIGURATION FILE WHEN UPDATING VERSIONS.
YOU MIGHT MISS OUT KEY NEW FEATURES!

Review by the user jamescosten on the 1.1 release (Highlighted issues contained have now been fixed as of 1.3)

    Example Usage of Fence:
A current can be acquired up to two blocks below, or one block on any side and then running a current through.
Then, just wait for someone to try and get through your fence!

Yes! Just adding 1.3 now, which is just for usability updates.
I'll be working on 1.4 very soon, which should feature a few more features and configurable options.

Glad to hear you like it! Thanks!

That's one brilliant video you have made there James Costen thanks! I love it.
It's nice to hear your views on it, and things you'd add yourself.
Upon getting home, I implemented a lot of these features.
    • Fences are now electrified up to 10 blocks high from the point of the redstone wire.
    • The configuration file is now automatically created for you, and is found at /plugins/ElectricFence/ElectricFence.conf
    • Permissions have been added. If you have the permission ElectricFence.bypass or you are an OP on the server, you can now avoid being damaged by the lightening and can destroy the electric fences.
I should have also mentioned about the lack of electrocution on contact with the fence! Although this is something I am looking into implementing in my 1.4 version release.

The first thread has been updated with the latest changelog and information, the download link will always remain the same URL for easy downloading.

An alternative to the web solution: have them only able to be used when the fence is placed on top of an iron block or Iron ore. But I do like the web idea, unique. :)

I never thought about changing the block directly below a fence! Thanks for pointing out that idea.
Iron blocks would be too hard to create on survival servers unless you have access to the /give command.
However iron ore would be a good choice. I'll have a mess with that idea.

After thinking about that for a short while, I'll implement that idea of needing a specific block below the fence.
HOWEVER I'll add a line into the configuration file which will allow you to specify what block should go directly beneath, EG, Iron Ore, Iron Block or Any (Which would just accept any block underneath). Look out for that in 1.4 along with a few other changes and features.

Will that include multiple blocks? eg: IronBlock, IronOre, GoldBlock, GoldOre

  12. :D Loved the end bit.

Please make this disableable, it will be too much effort for the sake of 1 plugin to alter a few hundred fences, not to mention it would mess with our architecture

Yes, you will be able to define the block inside the configuration file once implemented.

And don't worry, I mentioned before, I'll include an "any" setting under that configuration line.
    Basically disabling the aforementioned feature.

  15. Ok I can't really get this to work, OP has no instructions, but I presume just fences with redstone next to it lol.

Not taking any damage tho, should lightning be striking or so? I tested with someone who's not an Op, if that matters. Am confused ><

You must have some form of conflicting plugin. Are you using my latest version?
Redstone should be configured like this. or any similar variation

I have the same problem. I took all other plugins out and removed op powers but I still couldn't take damage.

Very strange, I'll disable the permissions section of code for now, and work on it.
Download the new version from the opening page.
I'll let everyone know when a fixed version comes out.

I've had a little mess around with it, however I've disabled permissions support in 1.3.1 for now.
Until I've had a better play around with it. And don't worry, if you're an OP on your server you won't get zapped!

  21. My friend just had the idea of making the Fence act like a cactus when walked into, could be useful.

It does not damage OPs on the server. There's your issue.

I am going to wait for Permissions support. I want it so only admins can electrify fences.

Hi. I'm sure this plugin is great and i know your put a lot of work into it. But I have a couple of problems. The lightning strikes the player and stuff in the 1.3 and 1.4, but it doesn't hurt them. I've deleted every plugin except this one. it still doesn't hurt the player. With the 1.4 version, it doesn't even write in the config file. It shows the config file, but there is nothing in it. Is there anyone else with this problem. Can you please fix this please. I am running on craftbukkit build 860 at the moment. Thank you.
