Idea: Source code example repository

I am thinking of collecting snippets of code that will help starting developers to see how things are done. As an example, I see about a post a day asking how to do the onCommand event. If there was a repository of code examples that newbies could go to first, that could help starting developers. The intent is for code snippets, not whole projects, but it could include them. I posted this to ask for feedback, is there anything else like what I'm talking about, and what things could I add to this. Let me know...

    Thanks,

Great Idea! My friend wants to learn to plugin-program, and I think that something like this would be great! If you need some help, just drop me a PM, if not, best of luck to you!

I like the idea, but you'd need to force them to use it. These repeating questions are asked because nobody bothers to use the forum search.

Yeah, I was hoping that if this repository got big enough, I could get the bukkit guys to sticky it, have a "Read this before asking questions". I will probably be asking for snippets of code, so if you guys have snippets you think are worth knowing, send them my way somehow and I'll start saving them!

Bumping this(its getting low on list) cause its a very nice idea and would help me alot also.
Also a plugin developer can have some sort of template/skeleton plugin that gives him a kickstart cause he doesnt have to write the basics in it.

Yeah, I like the skeleton idea, I'll be starting this project now!

  7. Take a look at Tagetes Template it is exactly what you are looking for.

  8. this is a great idea, I want to make plugins but its just so hard since they tell you to do all they coding, with this I can use the premade codes and put them together.

Well, the way i learned myself to code is looking at other people's repo's.
    Many developers here got Github.
In my signature you get the link to mine. You can see the source code of my plugins here.

If you dont understand something you can always msg me about my code, i dont mind that.
But i guess your right, a big repo with all sorts of test code might come in handy.

The forum search has never returned anything useful for me. Searching for Essentials does not show the Essentials thread as a result on the first page (as of right now). The search just takes all forum posts that contain your keywords and orders them by their timestamp- not by relevancy.

Maybe you should try ticking the "Search titles only" checkbox then?

Did you try that? It displays the most recent threads. The Essentials thread (as it will be in many other cases) is pretty old. It does not show up on the first page.
