Hello, I was wondering if it were possible to have a Custom Skin system created that would almost mirror the way the server locates a skin from minecraft.net. My idea is that the plugin, when a player signs on, would first search the folder (ex. plugins/SkinMod) for a player's skin. Then, if the server cannot find the skin in the afore-mentioned folder, then it continues with the normal system (search minecraft.net for skin; if no skin found, go default char.png etc.) The other thought I had was that it would likely require some sort of modification to the minecraft.jar file in the bin folder. I don't expect this to be a problem, unless it is actually the client who searches for skins as opposed to the server. If that is the case, then the idea is pretty much screwed because, I want the clients to have ZERO use of any (extra) modifications. I'm already tired from helping my brother try and get TooManyItems. I found, in my search for this plugin, that Afforess has released a plugin that exposes possible API strings that may be instrumental to the creation of this plugin; however, I have absolutely NO clue how I would use this plugin. The plugin is called BukkitContrib. Thank you in Advance!
I just looked at the BukkitContrib, it's a client mod. And I know you don't want to make any mods client side but you could easily make a program that changes the host files and redirects Minecraft.net to some other database.
Are you sure? Not to doubt you, because I am probably asking alot, but does it not have a server plugin download? Or is this only another way of using the mod builder...
Yes the basic server plugin adds a limited amount of features and to get the additional features, including skins, you need to have the client mod.
Would it not be possible then, through BukkitContrib, to make a client mod for this plugin? If it gets me the skins, then I really don't care if it means extra work. I mean, when has anything good ever come from sitting around and taking the easy route (scripting-wise, I mean.)
