  1. Hello,

I am an owner of a server, that's work not so good... but with a nice french community.
But i've got a lot of bug, certainly a java error. or something else... i don't really know. My cli is still open, but nothing respond... i've to close the cmd.exe, and re-open it (with my server.bat)

So i would like to know what is the best build of craftbukkit, and advice for plugins.

I'm actually running build 169, with Authorize, Worldedit, Worldguard, SimpleHome (which doesn't work, when i type /home or /sethome, it respond in pink /home /sethome)

I'm running it on Windows, but i think i'll install Ubuntu to run it, because i am fed up.

So if people can help me and give me pieces of advice to run a nice server, without any problem which is runned 24/24 7/7 and where people can play without scare about griefers and burner.

Thanks a lot for your help, and i'm sorry if i commited some english mistakes.

  3. 1. What OS are you using (Brand and version - Ex. Windows XP SP3)?

    XP

    2. What architecture is the OS you are running (x64 or x86)?
    x86

    3. What version and architecture is your java install? (Type: java -version in command prompt.)

    C:\Documents and Settings\Minha Computa>java -version
    java version "1.6.0_23"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_23-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 19.0-b09, mixed mode, sharing)If you run any GNU/Linux, run this

    4. What build of CraftBukkit are you running? (do NOT say latest. Say the build number.)
    169

Now that you've given us all the basics, now we get into the more advanced stuff. Note, if you haven't answered 1-4 yet, answering 5-9 will be almost pointless.

    5. What command are you using to run your CraftBukkit server?

    6. What plugins are you running?

    @echo off
    java -Xms512M -Xmx512M -jar craftbukkit-0.0.169-SNAPSHOT.jar nogui
pauseo7. What error are you getting (post your server.log file if possible)?
    8. What have you tried already?
    9. Have you tried any of the things below?

Simply, no. CraftBukkit and the plugins for it are being developed so rapidly, it is almost impossible to give you one build/plugin combination that will run 24x7 without any problems. Your best bet is to find a build number where the bugs are not terrifying, and the plugins you want all work nicely with that. Currently, that will be hard to do as the recent builds of CraftBukkit have broken most plugins. Thus, a lot of devs have started to update their plugins already, so newer builds of plugins won't work on older builds of CraftBukkit, and vice versa.

You will be in for a lot of trial and error to find that perfect build combination, unless you are lucky enough to find someone wanting to do exactly what you're doing.

Don't worry about your bad english. My french is far worse than your english.

  6. Ohh, so i'll not be able to at least have a server that not crash every 2hours or something like that...

And that's strange, that's the first time, that i see a game server using as much as memory.

I really would like to have a server where people could play peacefully ...

    Thanks though.

Although Bukkit and CraftBukkit is in development, it shouldn't crash too often.

I have a lot of servers running on my machines, some of them are very busy and run CraftBukkit without any problems at all.

For a basic server, where you should have no problems, follow these simple steps:

    Update Java
Update CraftBukkit to the latest build
For a simple server, install the Essentials and Permission plugins

The Essentials and Permissions plugins are both popular and quite stable. Keeping CraftBukkit and Java up to date will fix many errors and crashes you will encounter.

To put it in a simple way, you can run a stable and crash-free CraftBukkit server and plugins... But some builds and plugin versions will make your server unstable. Find a mix of plugin versions and a suitable CraftBukkit build that are stable, and only update when it is necessary.

No, not exactly. I have ran my server for 36 hours straight and haven't had it crash. It is entirely possible. The big challenge is to find plugins that work well together.

  9. Can you please told me what build you are running, and which plugins?

    Thanks

Sure, but I've updated since that 36 hour uptime. I usually update once every couple days, so I haven't had to stretch it past 24-36 hours.

    Currently on build 196.
    Plugins:
    Minecart Mania Core v0.74
    Minecart Mania Autocart v.51
    Minecart Mania Station v.14
    Minecart Mania Sign Commands v.13
    Dynmap v.8
    ScrapBukkit (build 73)
    PvP Control v.1
    Antibreak v1.2
    BackupPlugin 0.8.5
    SlowHealth v2.1
    SimpleWarp v1.4
    ExcessLapis v1

Note: All these plugins "work" but BackupPlugin (at this time) hasn't updated to allow the commands to work in game yet. I never use them, so I don't worry about it yet - I just use the automated features.
