    Hi,

    We are running on a Fasthosts VPS with 8GB Ram, 4 vCPU'S and CENTOS 5 x64 (+ 100mbps Connection).

Here are the outputs of uname and java --version:
We had around 100 players on last night and it was lagging. Chat took around 5 mins after typing to display and blocks were disappering.

We start bukkit with the following command line:

    java -Xmx7500M -Xms1024M -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+CMSIncrementalPacing -XX:parallelGCThreads=$CPU_COUNT -XX:+AggressiveOpts -jar tmm.jar nogui

This is started with: screen - Dm /etc/init.d/minecraft start

    Please advise

100 players is quite a lot. I don't really know how good the CPU and RAM have to be to support that. Imagine those 100 players are in a lot of places. The server needs to read and write a shitload of chunks. I don't really know if 8GB are enough for 100 different players, maybe you should watch how much RAM is actually used? In addition, take a look at your plugins. If you have plugins like mcMMO with their own databases and a lot of read/write operations this'll massively slow the computer if a lot of players are online. Also don't forget Minecraft is still in beta mode and not the best game concerning performance.

Waste of money to get that.

I run two simple servers 40 slots each with absolutly no lag, for onyl 35$ a month for month.

Honestly, until MC fixes their threading issues there is NO point in running a 100 man server. It's what I tried and failed miserably.

    Good luck though.

I'm going to agree with the previous posts. You have more than enough ram considering 50mb per player, but your CPU is lacking (one core per 25 players?!) so that would give you the hellacious lag that you have now.

On the other hand, huge kudos for getting ~100 simultaneous logins. =)

Use the plugin "PerformanceTweaks" , that should increase the performance.
+ what plugins are you using and are you using multiverse?

Monitor the performance over the course of a day or two and see if its the HD, CPU(core) or ram that is the bottleneck.

    Hi,

We are using Essentials, WorldGuard and WorldEdit as our plugins. Also so what do you mean about the cpu being lacking?

Its not gonna happen. Not on a VPS.

VPSs share its harddrives with other clients, so thats praobably a place where lag is coming. Also, vpss share cpu, even if your have 4, bukkit will only use 1 of them, the other 3 will only be for some plugins or garbage colection.

Also, if your vps is openvz, u probably share your "dedicated" RAM too.

Get a dedi for servers with 50+. I have a dedi, and my server has a 40 player cap, because I use TONS of plugins, so reducing plugins will help too.

We pay £110 a month with 16GB RAM. This is not a openvz vps it is a virtussizo vps.

Lol, yeah I was PMing him to see what his response on do you host servers in Europe. I was then going to ask why does his website resolves to startdedicated.com which is hosted by server4you.

OpenVz is the base of Virtuozzo (which is a comercial product). Consequently, they are pretty much the same. Both are quite good in performance since they just create virtual containers instead of virtual machines. But of course, you still share HDD access and CPU with other hosts, so I agree with the people above that your problem likely comes from the HDD.

    Likewise.
Nitros w/Windows is really doing a good job. I'll likely upgrade to the actual Dedicated Servers as the Nitros plans are actually just VDS's.
