We keep getting this on my server ever since I updated to 766 an hour ago. I used to have NoCheat installed but it seems like it was doing this so I deleted it, but we are still getting it. I was standing still and it happened. Is this a huge bug in bukkit or is it a plugin?

it happens to me to maybe its notch with a stupid multiplayer update... the 'bot' fucked up like 3 portal based plugins for me like the netherplugin or war -.-

Most likely bukkit, 766 brings this:

"Made the movement speed more reliable on high load servers."

You were kicked before if you speed hacked too much, but not if you didn't overdo it, seems like they fixed it :p

Except we know nobody is speed hacking and when it does happen it kicks EVERYONE on the server.

And I was also kicked when standing perfectly still

Also I think this has to do with it:

    Code:
2011-05-12 14:05:17 [WARNING] Time ran backwards! Did the system time change?
2011-05-12 14:05:17 [WARNING] Rurikar22 moved too quickly! Elapsed ticks: -5994, Distance change: 0.002587991430293964
Look at the times it happened at.

  6. I have the same problem when trying to use the ButtonWarp plugin. The player gets teleported to the destination but then kicked for speedhacking.
Sometimes the offset ist wrong and the player lands on a higher floor or smth.

Ist this some plugin or really Craftbukkit 766?

Well? Read what it says. You need to make sure your time isn't changing too much or moving backwards on your server.

The server time hasn't changed at all past the day light saving time. From what I have been reading people have been having the same issue since day light savings

Is there a way to just flat out disable the speed kicking? cause we have the plugin anti cheat and don't care if some people are going fast

For an update, I just disabled NTP on my server as well as moved the time up an hour, Yet I am still seeing this:

    Code:
20:34:56 [WARNING] Time ran backwards! Did the system time change?
20:34:56 [WARNING] Vexyl moved too quickly! Elapsed ticks: -5993, Distance change: 0.0
20:34:56 [WARNING] Vexyl moved too quickly! Elapsed ticks: -5993, Distance change: 0.0
20:34:56 [WARNING] Vexyl moved too quickly! Elapsed ticks: -5993, Distance change: 0.0
20:34:56 [WARNING] Vexyl moved too quickly! Elapsed ticks: -5993, Distance change: 0.0
20:34:56 [WARNING] Vexyl moved too quickly! Elapsed ticks: -5993, Distance change: 0.0
20:34:56 [WARNING] Vexyl moved too quickly! Elapsed ticks: -5993, Distance change: 0.0
So there is a clear problem in Bukkit 766 with this issue. How can I:
    A) Remove the Time ran backwards issue or
    B) Disable the kicking feature of Bukkit.

I have been running a server with only bukkit not additional mods, so yeah.

Doing more research into the issue people running servers with certain Linux distros primarily have this problem. And they seem to happen in time with Cron jobs. The cron jobs backup the server and all that jazz so they can't exactly be disabled.

I'm having the same problem. I am running a server on a mac and get booted when the "time ran backwards" message appears. I can guarantee there is no hacking going on. I have always gotten that warning, but never got booted until 766.

There is a plugin to disable the message, so if you don't experience any other problems, then I would grap it.

wheres this plugin? does that plugin also stop bootin players? i get the msg you moved too quickly after dying and clicking fast on the respawn button. when waiting few seconds everything works fine... respawn is at the last bed used by the player. i also think that i was gettin the same error/bug(/feature :D ) on 740.

I get this message too, and it happens on random. I use zombe's speedhack and don't get kicked for it (and i don't want to be)
But this happens randomly to other people (confirmed, not a NoCheat issue) and it results in at least 10 messages Playername has left the game in the chat followed by an extreme 1-2 minute lag (due to essentials trying to reclaim memory, which results in lag)
I think my post will be ignored though since i use #740
I'd love to see such a plugin that disables this kick, it's annoying and totally useless.

I've seen it once, while riding on a slime (with MobRider) and another player killed the slime. I was kicked and the server was extremely laggy for a minute, and disconnected everyone with a read timed out message
Also another admin reported that this happened when he flied through a portal (i'm running essentials nether if that matters)

edit: No time ran backwards or so on in the console, just moved too quickly lots of times
edit2, because i saw the distro post: I'm running the server on debian 6, no cron jobs runing

The issue is on your end. Fix your time from drifting.

The issue is on many different distros of linux and mac and its not fixable client side. As I said before the when a Cron job goes off it causes bukkit to throw the error. I don't know if you know Crob jobs or not, but they are not something you want to disable since you setup timed commands, like backing up a server and all that. So the issue is with bukkit.

If it was just me then yeah, but its anyone running Debian - Lenny distro and seemingly any mac server as well. So can this just be removed from kicking people or at least give the option to disable the auto kick for "hack". We are fine experiencing the Time Ran Backwards warning, I have had it since 733 and it causes no issues. Since 766 it kicks when it happens, so yeah.

You have a hardware issue that you need to address. This is not a Bukkit issue.

need fix for this or hacked error (I'm used to seeing this 'time ran..' message every 2-3 seconds)

    Code:
04:24:01 [WARNING] Beata moved too quickly! Elapsed ticks: -9, Distance change: 0.0
04:24:01 [WARNING] Beata moved too quickly! Elapsed ticks: -9, Distance change: 0.0

I will have to stay forever on bukkit 744 or shut down my server.

    I've tested this. Don't work.

    Code:
    >04:42:02 [INFO] Prevented kicking anon for reason: "You moved too quickly :( (Hacking?)"
    04:43:21 [INFO] Connection reset
04:43:21 [INFO] anon lost connection: disconnect.endOfStream

    always end of stream kick

We're having this issue as well. I believe it has something to do with the way files are being updated/saved on the server. We made the shift to 766 about a week ago, and within the past couple of days began receiving these messages and people started getting kicked. Last night, whenever a player rejoined the server after being kicked for the movement reasons, they ALWAYS respawned in the same place, as though everything they did prior to being kicked didn't happen. Finally, the server crashed and can't be restarted.

We have been running bukkit for months now, and have never, ever had this problem before. I will be the first to admit that I know next-to-nothing about Linux, java, and the rest of the technical stuff, but I have a strong sense that something drastically changed in bukkit and we can't control it. The "can't keep up!" messages have always been around, but this new error only came after moving to 766 (but not immediately). It is my theory that the disk quota is involved in the following way: these "moving too fast" messages and kicks begin showing up around the time that a server hits its "soft limit" on the disk quota; perhaps the server is beginning to struggle with updating/writing files. After a while (a couple of days, in our case), the server hits the "hard limit" and can do nothing more with file creation/updating. That's when players start to get put back in the same place, regardless of what happened; the server can't update their position (also resulting in the player "moving too fast").

I'm sure there are much more technical terms to use in the above theory, and the theory itself could be totally wrong. Just my thoughts on the matter. We love bukkit and everything it does for us. Just looking for a solution. To my knowledge, we're running CentOS and have experienced no changes at all to the server prior to, or since moving to bukkit 766 (apart from actually updating bukkit and plugins).

We might make a change to address this issue, but I want to make it absolutely clear: your server's time is drifting and this is a problem. You should fix it as it can cause issues with other aspects of your system.

10-4. I'll pass this along to the server owners.

  22. is there a way to just disable the stupid movement check. the plugins i use for teleporting and getting around the server are effected by this too its more of an issue to get rid of my plugins than to just disable this one simple inconvenience. i can deal with my own hackers

i a getting this as well when i go in to the end i spawn some where random the i get disconnected with the same message as every one else i am not runing any plugins and my server dose not give the [WARNING] Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the server overloaded? so is it a bug that needs to be fixed?
