I am literally crying right now, I never realized how big a part of my life Bukkit was until now. I got my dream from Bukkit. If I was having a bad day, I would (and still do) make plugins to cheer up. If I wanted something or had an idea, I would go to Bukkit as most of my problem solvings. Bukkit gave me my goal for life. I am sad to see it go, such a huge part of my life, gone. Thank you for the amazing story... goodbye! feildmaster I am sorry for never thanking you for an update, I always took them for granted. So, I will soon enough thank you for every Bukkit update you worked on. What build # did you start developing at? I will then write a thank-you note for each and every one of them. <3

That was the problem, what was meant to be a community project turned out to be nothing more than an unpaid division of mojang; mojang where they take 4 months to add... rabbits, and their own server hosting service, and get paid million dollar bonuses; while bukkit, and the community gets... an EULA that is a big FU to the community that says not only cant you be community funded, we wont pay you either; and you all work for us "muahahhah"

Bukkit probably spent a lot more hours on coding and bug fixing.. than mojang - and they get nothing, not even a card at xmas.

    Analogy -
If you just spent 2 years unpaid digging wells for the poor in Africa, and discovered that all the wells were actually being used to bottle water and try to selling it to the thirsty natives - or that the natives that dug their own wells were told at gunpoint they have to charge people for any water they pull out with their bukkit; or their wells get filled in, would you not crack it?

  4. Name examples of (complex) games that get better add ons within 4 months (Edit: without throwing another 10, 20, 30, 40, 100,... manpower department at it, also note the versions for other platforms - if the philospohy of the company is to stay reasonable in size, they'd have to make a decision on if they want to inflate to maintaining huge infrastructures for all the platforms or if it's time to say goodbye...). What they did is not nothing by far - can't judge if the mod-API is a hoax or not, 4 months is ok for refactoring internals towards better moddability, and spectator mode for instance is a comparably big thing for modded servers in general, though we can't really tell yet how it works out on them.

    feildmaster,
Want to thank you for all the work you've done on this project. I ran a server for myself, my kids and friends and the Minecraft replay value from bukkit and plug-ins was tremendous. It really kept up the multiplayer interest and provided a way to make the game whatever you wanted it to be. I work in IT and was always impressed with how fast you (and all the plug-in devs) came out with updates, especially as volunteers and without access to real, commented source code for the game.
Other posters, please keep your rude comments to yourself. Each of these people a lot of time into this and if you hadn't gotten some pleasure of out it then you probably wouldn't be on this site.
Once again a huge thanks to all the bukkit volunteer staff and the plug-in devs.

I have been in the Bukkit realm for merely months...but as a Software Engineer, as a fanatic of Minecraft, I can't help but say: Thank you feildmaster! If you ever find yourself around Akron/Cleveland Ohio please let me know because I'd love to buy you a drink that you very much deserve. Writing code on a daily basis, being a sys admin in the past, I know exactly what is involved. I can't believe you stuck around for as long as you did, and I pray to Jesus that Microsoft offers you a job. Keep on keepin' on!

Thanks for all the contribution. But you have to realize the bukkit project was bought by mojang 2 years ago. Mojang is indeed updating bukkit to 1.8. The real problem is the eula. Its a complete lie to say the new eula has made it so no one can make money of their servers. In reality the new eula is their to make servers fair for everyone. Not pay to win thing. Mojang itself has released a work around the eula. in other words "good ways to make money" of your server.
I can give you approximately 32 proofs. but here are few big ones.
    Proof 1: https://twitter.com/jeb_/status/502380018216206336
    proof 2: https://twitter.com/Dinnerbone/status/502389963606867968
    Proof 3:
It is bukkit thats closing itself down. but since its bought by mojang, mojang stepped in and said "We are taking over". They are indeed going to update bukkit to 1.8 and like always, bukkit has and still will be the unofficial API.
I feel really really bad for whats going on, but its time to come into reality. Mojang is allowed to do anything with bukkit. its up to bukkit from there to follow it or not. Thanks for the contribution everyone. Good luck in your lives.
Thank you so much to make bukkit what it stands today.

  10. I think Mojang will definitely regret this. Don't think a lot of people would like to run a vanilla Minecraft server.
Bukkit was usefull, fast and simple.

I'm going to miss you bukkit.
    Goodbye :(

    1) There is no new EULA
    2) Mojang have only recently announced that Bukkit was owned by them, this was secret before.
    3) They said it would be updated, but that was before the DMCA.

So far they've produced no results.

After having developed bukkit plugins for so long, seeing everyone leave is probably one of the saddest moments in my life. I never really showed the staff the amount of appreciation they deserved, and that is going to haunt me for a while. You guys are an amazing group of people, and these heartfelt goodbye's prove that. I just want you to know how much what you've done really means to me. Bukkit was and always will be a huge part of my life, even though it's slowly diminishing with all of the stuff that's going on. This has been the best community I've ever been apart of, and I'll remember every second of it. Thanks you guys.

I haven't been here very long but I have heard some great things about you. You were an awesome member of the Bukkit team and did wonders for Minecraft Servers. Farewell, we all shall miss you.
