Increased Survival Difficulty

    Suggested name: IntenseSurvival

    What I want: I'm looking for a plugin which adds four different features to increase the difficulty of survival.

    The first feature is that zombies (only zombies) are able to break torches placed by players. Ideally I'd like them to have to hit the torch twice before it breaks (like how they have to hit doors), but just breaking it instantly is fine as well if the former is too difficult.

    The second feature is that I'd like passive mobs to be neutral instead. If you hit a pig, cow, chicken, etc, they'll attack you. Ideally, I'd like to see them group up on you (if another pig is nearby, it will join the first pig, but a cow wouldn't join a pig) but I imagine that might be difficult so the first one would be a great start.

    The third feature is that hunger, when it runs out, would result in instant death.

    The fourth feature is that drowning, when the bubbles run out, would result in instant death.

    Together, these can create a more difficult survival experience. It would be great to have a configuration to turn on/off each of these features, but it isn't necessary if that's too difficult.

    Ideas for commands: No commands needed for this plugin.

    Ideas for permissions: No permissions are needed for this plugin.

    When I'd like it by: I'm really excited about this idea, but understand that plugin development takes time. If anyone is up for taking on the challenge that would be awesome and I'd really appreciate it!

    I'm leaving for vacation tommorow which means lots of boring car time. I'll try and make this then, however this means that communication will be limited for the next 2 weeks. I'll try to find some internet there.

    Questions:
    - Should mobs burn during day?
    - Should torches drop when broken?

    Thanks, that would be awesome.

    Mobs burning during the day: Disabling this is an excellent idea. If it could be a configurable option (true/false), that would be incredible.

    If it isn't too difficult to make them drop, yes please. If it is, it's fine without that.

    have you checked out ExtraHardMode? many of its features can be tweaked or disabled if you don't like them. it's pretty frikkin awesome.

    modifying mob behavior is "hard" but hunger and drowning damage modifiers (multipliers - and you could configure them high enough to kill instantly) should be relatively easy.

    i'm trying to get some other patches accepted to EHM and i'll put multipliers for these sorts of damage on the list if they're not there already, for my next patch.

    General Update:
    qlimax5000 started working on the project and told me several features were done (he added features he thought were interesting as well, which I agreed to so long as they were configurable). As far as I can tell, he is no longer working on the project (he has stopped responding to my messages). I'm still very interested in having this plugin developed, so if anyone else is interested please let me know. :)

    bluekelp - I checked out ExtraHardMode. There are some really awesome features, but unfortunately it doesn't have the ones I'm looking for. Thanks for pointing it out though! If your multipliers make it through please let me know.

    it seems pretty common for people to claim it then never get anywhere. not sure if they're actively trolling or just being normal kids.

    my PR was accepted to EHM so when I next have cycles I can try adding the multipliers.

    Monster Apocalypse has torch breaking zombies but it might be too much and am not sure it's being actively developed (dev said it is not but s/he might continue to update).

    Hey, I just stopped by to tell you that I like your post, almost so much that I'd want to take on your project, if I only had the time :/ . But it's very well organized, easy to read through. Many people could learn from you :)

    EHM will get damage multipliers. it might take a while for the mod on bukkit to be updated but someone might be nice enough to roll a custom jar for you in the meantime.

    i'll research zombies breaking torches next - Monster Apocalypse has something similar and it's a pretty spooky/hard addition - perfect for EHM.

    Oh crap. Just reading this now and i saw your message. I'm still working on it, just very busy with college at the moment.

    If someone else wanna do this that's fine but i'm still doing it.

    Also, John, i'd actually like to speak with you about it next weekend.
