    Cookbook is the premier specialised plugin for custom crafting and smelting recipes. Craft gold bars from stone, diamonds from grass and much, much more! Cookbook allows the creation of recipes in an easy-to-understand recipes file - simply create the recipe, reload the plugin and you're done! Cookbook affects the crafting and smelting tables directly - no more workarounds or other weird methods. It can override the default recipes too - just copy the recipe and specify a custom result.

    Cookbook allows the customisation of the crafting recipes used in a workbench and smelting. Let's take for example the recipe for torches - a stick with oil on top. With Cookbook, I could make it so a stack of 35 torches were made if I put obisidan on top of said stick in the crafting area. I could make a 9x9 recipe of dirt blocks create diamond. If I wanted to smelt coal from saplings, I'd just specify that in the recipes file. In short, Cookbook allows the creation of workbench crafting and smelting recipes, completely user-configured, to give a specified resulting stack.

    Using data ranges for repair recipes:
    In 1.4, the repair recipe feature was added. To use this, all you have to do is put 'X' as the damage value, and any data value for that item will be accepted as valid.

    Crafting recipes (open)
    To configure cookbook, open the cookbook.recipes file. Inside the file are a few custom recipes already configured, and you can change/add/delete them if you like. The way new ones are created is like so.
    A workbench is a 3x3 slot area, filled with air. To represent this in a file, we use a 3x3 grid of numbers, separated by commas. Each number represents the item id that would go into that slot on a crafting bench to produce your recipe. 0 is air (nothing). So, we get this:

    4th line.

    The data values for each line are separated by the ';' - the first number on the right corresponds to the data value of the first item on the left. Note that 'X' is a valid data value, allowing any data value to be used in that square.

    The fourth line is the result (what you get when you have this configuration). It is formatted like so: the item id is on the left, the stack amount is in the middle, and the data value is on the far right. For example - to configure a stack of 64 sticks, I would put 280:64:0 on the fourth line. These four lines constitute a recipe.

    Let's do an example. I want to use a stick in the middle of the bench to get a stack of 24 apples.

    260:24:0 - the result is a 24-stack of apples.

    See the included recipes file for information on Shapeless recipes. Use the @Shapeless identifier before a recipe to make it shapeless - for example

    Will make this recipe shapeless - stone can be placed anywhere to get the desired result.
    Furnace Recipes (open)
    Furnace recipes are a lot simpler thankfully :).
    Furnace recipes have two lines: the first line is for the ingredient, the second is for the result.
    The first line is simply the id of the ingredient used in smelting. The second line is separated into 3 sections by ':'s.

    The first section defines the id, the second the data value and the third the custom cooktime.
    Let's do an example - cobblestone to sand.

    4, -the ingredient is cobblestone.
    12:0:0 - results in sand, no data value, no change to cooktime.

    Pretty simple right? The cooktime value is used for extra customisation of the time it takes for one block to be smelted (the progress arrow's speed). Normally, this is incremented from 0 - 200, by 1 each time. In cookbook, you can add extra values onto this. Note the caveat: these will only change cooktime while the window is open.

    And that's it for furnace recipes. Negative values are possible, but will be capped at
    -0.999999... otherwise the recipe will never complete.

    Request: toggled option per-recipe to determine if the recipe must be watched or not. Watching cobble for the speed bonus is cool, but bypassing slow recipes by walking away isn't. I'd like to have some recipes you have to tend to or they take MUCH longer/fail entirely.

    EDIT: Request2: per-player "cookbooks" that list all discovered recipes for that player.

    I don't think that's possible in any sensible way. Though, a really good way to do it would be to actually display the Workbench window with both the recipe and result on it (of course you can't pick up the result), and the section that would normally be your pack could instead contain the various possible results which you can click on to see the recipe... and the quickbar could have some kind of paging mechanism.

    Of course, that's not possible until we have inventory click hooks in Bukkit... oh well. I've been working on those though, maybe they're almost ready for a pull request.

    I don't think it would be; you need the inventory hooks to prevent people from just taking the items.

    Nope, again possible (using it with Citizens). You can use an inventory method to set the item in the cursor to null.

    Wouldn't you have to do that every X ticks? Still, it does sound doable now. Inventory hooks would make it foolproof though.

    By the way, it seems that if you set damage to X, the recipe also works if the appropriate slot is empty.

    So, I took a look at the Minecraft code, and it seems that its definition of Shaped/Shapeless recipes differs from this plugin's definition. In fact, every Minecraft recipe is shaped except for the wool/dye recipes. Shaped means that the relative positioning of the element is important; it seems that any shaped recipe can be flipped horizontally and still be valid, and it can be shifted around to any location on the grid as long as the relative postioning remains the same. For shapeless recipes, on the other hand, it matters only that the required ingredients are present, not where you put them.

    It's odd that your implementation does not behave this way, since it apparently relies on the internal Minecraft recipe classes. However, there is one major difference with Cookbook recipes which is probably the reason why they do not work in the internal 2x2 crafting grid: they are all the same size. Minecraft's recipe system supports 1x1, 1x2, 1x3, 2x1, 2x2, 2x3, 3x1, 3x2, or 3x3 recipes. As I understand it, Cookbook only adds 3x3 recipes.

    I think what Cookbook needs for version 2.0 is a completely new config file format that supports variable-sized recipes as well as shapeless recipes in the sense described above, where placement does not matter. Maybe it's something that should wait until inventory and crafting hooks are officially added to Bukkit, but it's something to at least think about and consider. :)

I also get string if I put it in any two adjacent slots in the right column and sponge if it's in the top right and bottom right slots. I didn't do a fully comprehensive examination, but that seems to be the extent of the strangeness.

    And these work perfectly! But all the standard recipes will flash the result in the output box and then disappear. Basically all the standard recipes become invisible.

    Can you still take the result of the default recipe, though?

    Having looked at the code, I suspect that this issue would be solved by only sending a packet if the result is non-null. The client will reset the result slot to empty if it doesn't match a default recipe in any case. Then again, that would break update in the case of people wanting to disable individual default recipes... but making a distinction between null and "air" should be able to work around that, I think.

    Have you thought about the possibility of adding a group to a recipe, meaning only that group can craft it? Something that almost all of these plugins lack is the ability to restrict this out. If you could, it would allow for alchemy, blacksmith, and many other aspects all just from this one plugin.
