Hello, I own an externally hosted server, which runs on "Craftbukkit 1.6.4-R0.1 (Developer)", that unfortunately crashed. A large part of my world was deleted, as shown here, 2013-10-31_08.45.13.png Luckily I did a backup two hours before that, however the same part of the world was missing there too, even though the backup was before the world problem. If have done some research into this, but I haven't found a solution. There's probably something which I missed! I don't think this is a chunk missing as to my knowledge, chunks go down to the void. Here is my list of plugins:
    • ChunkLoad (Which to my knowledge hasn't been used, but is still active)
    • CoreProtect
    • WorldEdit
    • WorldGuard
    • iDisguise
    • PlayerHeads
    • Multiverse-Core
    • PermissionsEx
    • Essentials
    • EssentialsProtect
    • EssentialsSpawn
    • EssentialsChat
    • EssentialsAntiBuild
Any help would be very much appreciated!

    Many Thanks,
    MisoJo

the land generated instead of the hill is very bizarre. It looks a lot like flat world generation except for the floating grass. I think there's a couple of things here:

It's possible the land was like this for a while and you hadn't noticed, which is why that backup didn't help. Alternatively, you didn't do a "save-all" then "save-off" before doing the backup (to save all files and then tell it not to touch them)
If a chunk is missing it would be regenerated as if explored for the first time. That doesn't look like a regenerated chunk, which implies the chunk wasn't missing. Sure someone didn't mistype a worldedit command or similar?

Thank you very much for your response! I didn't do a "save-all" then a "save-off". I assume there's no way to retrieve the missing land? Would it be better to do "save all" then "save on" or "save off"? Also, the world is flatland.
    Little ol' bump!

Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do to repair a player made structure (including terrain)
You can revert the area back to the default seed, but seeing as that is a superflat, I would not recommend it.
    Sorry!

What is the correct way to backup before a backup? Save all then save off?

    Bump :D

Sorry, you should have tagged me.
When updating, just stop your server. It will save the world automatically, you can then update and start 'er up.

So if I stop the server then backup it, then start it, the server won't touch the backup, I should do that next time? That would be the same as the save on/off/all business?
