Legends - RPG Plugin Project

  1. Our main goal is to add supports to all the major RPG Plugins through one or many plugins. We will be making a classing/skills type plugin to be at the core of our project. We will be an Open Sourced project, by the community for the community.

    Main Current Project
Creating a plugin/plugins that have Legends, mmsupernaturals and rpgitems features combined. Some of these feature will include:
Legend Races - Elves, Dwarves, Orcs and Humans (Without using Professions), each race will have it's own unique abilities and advantages. For example Elves will have a boost in mana and archery and will have special Race Skills unique to that Race. Hero Races will also have integration with mmsupernaturals. This integration will allow supernaturals to be unique to one Hero Race or a select amount of Races. For example Vampirism can only be inherited by Humans, so that would mean Dwarves, Orcs and Elves are all immune to the Vampire SuperNatural class. Each Race would also have a sub race inside of it:
    Humans - Northerners, Southerners, Hobbits
Elves - High Elf, Dark Elf, Wood Elf
Dwarves - Cave Dwarf, Mountain Dwarf, Gnomes (Dwarves who left the shackles of the earth for the sky)

Legends Disciplines - Creates different schools of magic and weaponry. Magic Schools could be Alteration, Conjuration, Destruction, Illusion, Restoration and Enchanting. Each Magic school could have separate levels, each level adding more power to the magic type you use. For weapons we could have an integration with rpgitems, there could be different classes of weapons. For example: Long Swords, Broad Swords, Short Swords, Daggers, Battle Axes, Hatchets, Maces, Scythes (Hoes). Just like the magic schools every time you level up these weapons classes you gain more attacking power with each level. This would create a more diverse and advanced range of weaponry and magic tactics.

RPG Items bridge to Legends and adding classes of weapons - Different classes of weapons Long Swords, Broad Swords, Short Swords, Daggers, Battle Axes, Hatchets, Maces and Scythes. These classes of weapons will have changeable damage modifications and swing times. For example, Long Swords deal more damage than broad swords but have a longer swinging time than broad swords. This creates an advanced unique PVP system giving more options to players and more options for classes. This could also be integrated with Hero Races. For example, Orcs do more damage with maces and Dwarves do more damage with battle axes. Humans have a faster swinging time with swords than Elves do. Also we could add sub race features, Northerners are more skilled with long swords than Southerners and Hobbits and Southerners are more skilled with broad swords. These plugins create so many options and create an advanced fighting mechanism with no limits.

Legends and mmSupernatural bridge - This plugin would create a more sound connection between Legends and mmSupernaturals. One of these connections could be that Vampires add +3 bonus to long sword attack to whatever class you are using or Demons have a decrease in HP but an increase in Destruction Magic. This would create a more unique and well rounded RP enviroment.

Gods bridge to Legends - This plugin could also create hero attribute bonuses, say if you were a follower of the God of Knowledge you would get bonus mana points and so on.

Towny Project - Still in planning mode.

Why is our RPG project unique
One of the main concerns for a project like this is Has it been done before? Is someone else starting a similar project? How is DawnFire Realms unique?

Well to answer your questions requires in depth discussion and research.
First question Has it been done? No this project has never been attempted or started by any other community or team. All features listed above are new and have never been created or listed anywhere but here. All combinations of plugins are unique and have never been attempted before by anyone else. No one has created an advanced weapon and magic classing system listed above in minecraft before. No one has created unique Hero Races with the features listed above, also no one has created supernaturals unique to specific Hero Races before. RPGitems have not been classed into weapon categories and they have not been modified to collaborate with Legends classes and races. Also these categories of weapons have unique swing times which have never been attempted with weapon classes. Currently there is nothing like the Legends and mmSupernatural bridge that gives bonuses to unique weapon classes or decreases in other attributes according to the SuperNatural classes. There is no God like plugin that gives bonuses to ANY attacking, mana, and defense attributes.

Second question: Is someone else starting a similar project? No, no one is starting a project anything like what has been listed above. All ideas are unique and designed by myself.

    Testing Server Specs

DawnFire Realms has kindly offered to test our plugin.
Our Host runs on E3-1230 or better, 32GB ram, 2x120GB SSD on a 1Gbit connection.
We currently have 6GB Ram dedicated to us.
    MYSQL Server
    120 slots
(We can test on this server, and our community will help us find any bugs)

  3. No, it's creating a plugin for the community not a server project. So it is in the right section.

No, it actually is the wrong section. Unless you have a question or a problem while developing a plugin, this isn't the right place.

  5. The description for this forum is "Need help developing a plugin? Got a bug you can't squash? Ask in here!"
We need help developing a plugin, so I think this would be the correct place.

"Need help developing a plugin" does not mean to ask people to join your project, it means literally to post in this section if you need someone to help you with your problem. This isn't a signup forum, it's a support forum.

Please stay out of this. You don't know me at all, and that's a rather offensive thing to say to me. I never said anything negative about you or anything of yours, and you know that as well as I do.

That thread was created two years ago, when this whole website was a completely different place, along with the Plugin Development forum. Tzeentchful was, in fact, spot-on in his post. The "Show off your Bukkit server" section is, in fact, where this post goes. Take a peek and see all of the other "Dev needed" threads.

As you say, "check and mate".

  9. Well it's not your choice where this post goes, you'll have to wait for a member of staff. And all those Devs needed are for private server plugins, which this is not.

If anything then this thread would be moved to Plugin Requests, although we want devs on the project not, we want you to go off and make this plugin.

Frankly, I don't care at all where this goes. All that really matters to here me is fair and respectful discussion. I simply informed you that this was in the wrong section, when you had already refuted that fact.

I was simply saying that this wasn't in the right place -- no need to argue with me over it.

  11. Well then, this discussion is over. I was simply using logic to find where this post should go, if the bukkit staff think it should be elsewhere then so be it. But if they do move it, they should consider moving the "HeroCraft Development Seeking More Developers!" To avoid any confusion, as that post is still used every once in a while.

I was looking for a new project to help with, and the "Plugin Development" forum seemed the obvious place to look. I fail to see how this would fit in the "Show off your Bukkit server" forum. The only place I think this might fit in better is in the "WIP and Development Status" forum, though that is debatable considering the current development stage.

Either way, I've decided to join this project. If it's in the wrong forum, it has worked out in his favor because I most definitely would not have looked in "Show off your Bukkit server".

  13. Updated the Post to Legends, also we have recruited 2 new devs in the past day! We need as many devs as we can on this project, so keep coming in!

    This.

Will you make it to where we can make our own races and classes?

I wouldn't mind dropping Heroes so I can run bukkit server again, But NOTHING out there is as stable as it.

  15. Yes we will have a FULLY customisable plugin, we plan to make every feature as customisable as possible. You will be able to make your own classes, races and skills. Possibly make your own Magic and Weapon Schools, or at the very least you will be able to customise some features. As you said, you wouldn't mind dropping Heroes for a bukkit plugin that has the same features, that is the reason why Legends has been created. Obviously we plan to be as stable as possible, we will need as much support from the bukkit community as possible :).

I would like to join this project, I don't have that much Java experience compared to the other Coders.
But I think I have some great ideas for the plugin.

  17. We still would like some more devs to help out on the project! Keep messaging me, on skype and bukkit.

We have mainly been working on the API and framework.

    Current API Features -
Restrictions - allows for restrictions based on level, armor, weapons, race, etc, etc
    Level and experience
Automatic downloading of separate module dependencies
Abstracted data management that will allow support for .DAT, H2, MySQL, Oracle, PostGRE, SQLite, YAML or arbitrary database types.
API for creating races, classes, weapons, skills, armor

For more detailed information, you can always check out the git repository here:

    Cool Project,

But I hate to burst your bubble, you guys are not the only one to do this. I already have a very configurable Race system :)

Anyway.... not trying to take over your post.... just wanted to say that this is completely unique ;)

Good luck with the project though!

Michael Rhodes It's been quite some time since your last update. Legends is also a bit more than just a few races and it's made up of a team of relatively experienced coders. The past few days, over 1000 lines of code has been developed in the API and framework alone. The amount of feedback we've had is pretty ridiculous and we are dedicated to bringing this project to the bukkit community. Keep checking back, you might find something you like, or maybe you'll decide to develop your class system with Legends instead [diamond]

Ummm..... did I miss something ?

anyway.... I wish you good luck with your plugin.... and please, before you say things like "Legends has a far more complicated racing system than RPGcraft, we aren't just a race plugin either" maybe you should know more about my plugin....

    Just saying.

This is a huge project, we're still hoping to find more developers to help out.

I'd just like to point out that Legends has completely different design goals than your plugin. Legends has been designed from the ground up to be entirely configurable. Your plugin also REQUIRES spout according to the bukkit dev page. The core of Legends will never have any dependencies on other plugins. Also, you mention that this isn't a unique project and then reference your own plugin...from a design and programming point of view, I see very little resemblance.
Your plugin is also licensed under CC-BY-ND, which technically does not require you to release source code and you do not have any publicly available as far as I can tell. Legends will ALWAYS be open source.

I'm sorry if you still hate me, and even more so if this adds to your distain for me, but as the old saying goes, "don't count your chickens before they're hatched". You might talk a big game, and have an enormously grandiose plan for a project, but talking so highly of yourselves before you can even back up your claims doesn't make you look very good. You're bashing Michael Rhodes, who actually has a plugin to boast about, and he's quite modest about it to say the least. Just my two cents.

Regardless, good luck with your project.

Are you asking how to track players movement or get their location? No. This is not getting any help with CODING.

devilquak I wasn't 'bashing' anything, I was just pointing out the major differences between the two plugins. He posted comparing the features of Legends to his own plugin, which is also what I was doing. I don't see anything wrong with that. My point was that Legends has been designed with different goals.
Also, If I seem to talk "highly" of myself, it's because I'm confident in my ability to see this project to completion.

HackintoshMan This has been discussed before, a post has already been made in the WIP and Development Status forum.

I was speaking more to your friend than to you, you didn't seem as cocky about it as he did. You're totally correct, nothing wrong with comparing, he just sounded a bit full of himself. Anyways, still sounds like an interesting idea. If this can actually live up to all the hype, then it should work out to be a big success for you.

    Once more, good luck.

devilquak Cheers, thanks for the support. It really is a huge project but the amount of interest we have had is pretty inspiring. It seems like this is what the community wants and I think we can make it happen [diamond]

  28. My use of words may have seemed like I was being "cocky", but that definitely wasn't what I was trying to get across. Anyway, I do not think it matters as we are confident in what we have achieved and doing, I don't see a problem with that.

Michael Rhodes What you're doing here is highly frowned upon. If you want to advertise your plugin, you should do so elsewhere.
