I use to run minecraft servers from my computer, and the server works but i quit minecraft cause i was kinda bored. some months later i decided to run a minecraft server again, but no one can connect. None of my friends can connect. Even i can't connect to my server. The only way to connect to my server is using the IP localhost. And in canyouseeme.org, it says my port 25565 is closed. So is there any way to open it back? And please don't give a suggestion saying i should call my ISP and tell them to open port 25565, because that is way to complicated.

and tell me if you need any screen shots or anything. I really want my server to work.

You have to use port forwarding. This is done with your router settings.

If you are unsure how this is done, you should do a google search for your type of router on the subject.

the thing is that. Its portfowarded correctly. I know how to portfoward and my friend who knows how to portfoward checked it to. And i use to run a portfowarded server that people can join. Its just now that it doesn't work o,O

If you can connect from another computer on your network, then look into port forwarding. If you can't, look into firewall issues with your computer.

    Did your local IP change?

Do you maybe have a software firewall blocking it at the computer? (Windows is known to do this)

Are you sure your router supports a loopback connection? (That means connecting using the external address from inside the network). Many do not allow this.

Also, I would suggest setting up a static IP address so that way your address never changes.

How do i check if my router supports a loopback connection? And how do i set up a static ip address? lol

To test the loopback, get somebody from outside your network to try and connect.

As for setting up the static IP address, it will depend on your operating system. Even different versions of windows have slightly different methods of getting to this setting. This is another one I would recommend looking up, as the online tutorials are FAR easier to follow than anything I could type here in a reasonable time.

Bukkit uses TCP. UDP is not required.

Anyone NOT connected INSIDE your house like your computers are.

If your phone or ipod connect through your router, then no, they don't count.

Find a friend who lives somewhere else and get them to connect.

Anything INSIDE the network should use the LOCAL address of the computer to connect.

The problem I always have is that when everything seems to be working fine (static IP assigned and router forwarded) I either have done one of the following:

    1. Not created an exception in windows firewall (disable firewall to see if that is the case)

    2. Not specified the correct ip in the server.properties file (Edit the server.properties file in notepad or notepad++ and set the server ip to the computer's ip, static lan ip will work)

I had the exact same problem you had and that is how i fixed it. I would guess number 2 is your problem.

That part where you say it connects to your router and asks for a password... means you connect through your router... and then it asks for a password...

Use the internal address... the 192.168.x.x one.
