I have decided to host a private server for me and some friends and we wish to have a PvP server. The general idea will be a war system, where people start up towns and cities and build up their defenses to guard from attacks. I wish to know what plugins are best for this type of server, being that they are functional, easy to use, and do not require in game administration. Griefing will be a part of the server, so I want some ability to attack enemy towns, but also want it to not be too easy.

    Current Plugins:
Skylands+ (Upon reaching world height, one will reach the skylands)
    Inception (For skylands)
    Multiverse (For world management)
    Essentials (General usefulness)
    bPermissions (Permissions and Group Management)
NoCheatPlus (Anticheat and has compatibility patches)

    Required Plugins:
Lockable Doors (Lockpicking plugin maybe?) [Recommendations: LWC, Lockette, Deadbolt]
PvP Enhancements (RPG Elements) [Recommendations: McMMO, Heroes]
Region Protection (spawn) [Recommendations: Regios, WorldGuard]
Faction / Clan / Guild system [Recommendations: SimpleClans]
Economy? (Not sure if I want an economy system yet) [Recommendations: BOSEconomy]
    Other Miscellaneous Feature Plugins

I may be missing some big ones, but i will update this post.

EDIT 1: Added bPermissions and NoCheatPlus
    EDIT 2: Added Recommendations

For the "Faction / Clan / Guild system", I personally wouldn't go with Factions. Almost every server has it now, so going with a different plugin would give your server something different.

Don't forget an anti cheat plugin (NoCheatPlus or Anticheat), and you'll most likely want Orebfuscator. Also, a permissions plugin. PermissionsEx is pretty easy to set up, but there are others such as BPermissions and GroupManager.

You should also use plugins you personally enjoy, and that you know about. If your confused, your players are going to have no clue what to do. :D

I've ran servers since the beta, so I know many plugins. I'm just wondering what ones are preferred.

I know factions is overused and I didn't plan on using it. As for the anticheat, I will add that.

    Group management also encompassed permissions.

EDIT: Added recommendations, please comment on choices.

I am also curious as to other peoples preferences, mainly when it comes to performance.

    Personally I use

    PEX: permissions
TOWNY: for "guilds" and region management
iConomy: I use iConomy still :), updated by the towny devs I think.
LWC: For locking crap. Seems to be pretty low intensity

Lockette/deadbolt will save you tons of RAM over LWC

Not concerned about RAM, will it save CPU? I am not particularly fond of having to put a sign on everything to lock it but, if it will save CPU cycles I would be interested. Currently, LWC seems to be eating up more %CPU than I would think it should.

LWC is the most lightweight locking plugin

that's not true I have tried it on a huge server and when we switched over to Lockette loads more RAM was available. Lockette only saves world saves which then again could be a problem but I'm sure everyone knows LWC is more ram intensive.
