With the news that the Minecraft 1.4.5 update will be released next week Tuesday (November 20th, 2012), we've decided to push out a developer quality build (i.e. "it compiles and runs", no guarantees) to help us get to a Beta release faster. As of this post, we've shifted development over to Minecraft 1.4.5 compatibility and now have development builds available with Minecraft 1.4.5 support. While we would love to be able to do this for every Minecraft update, the speed at which we can update is determined by the size and complexity of the update and this varies with each release.

Please only use this build if you're familiar with the Minecraft snapshot process and would like to help us get a Beta Build out soon after Minecraft 1.4.5 is officially released. This build is COMPLETELY UNSUPPORTED and if you do not know how to acquire Minecraft 1.4.5 early to use it, you should not be running it. We will be deleting any questions asking how to get this usable. If you have to ask where or how to get the development build, you should NOT be running it and posts of that nature will be deleted.

Will plugins break with this build?
Provided the developers of the plugins you are using are keeping up with the development of Bukkit, all your plugins should work fine. Unless we specifically have to break plugins or the plugins you are using are employing inappropriate practises, most plugins should work without needing an update whenever we put out a new release.

    What is a Developer Build?
A Developer build is provided AS IS and COMPLETELY UNSUPPORTED. You should only be running these builds if you are completely aware of how to properly make use of them. Support request of ANY KIND will be removed without warning. If you have to ask where or how to get the development build, you should NOT be running it and posts of that nature will be deleted.

    Known Issues:
    • Torch flame graphical glitch resulting in a torch's flame flickering randomly on the screen. This is a Minecraft bug that can't be fixed by Bukkit.
    • Client displays "Unable to locate sign" debug messages under certain circumstances. This is a Minecraft client change that can't be fixed by Bukkit.

hmm Bukkit has updated (for the adventurous) before Minecraft. Guess they can cross that off their... BUKKIT LIST xD

They can update before Minecraft because the changes are mostly/all client-side bug fixes which don't affect the server-side stuff at all.

Minecraft needs to slow down on the updates ;p

Yepppppppp! Too many updates in too short a period of time causes confusion among players and disruption to server admins. People simply just cannot keep up with the rate that Mojang are releasing updates and new game content right now.

  14. 1.4.5? not 1.4.4 or did you just write wrong?

Well nice work bukkit ^^ and thx for info update but i just think minecraft should do better work before releasing a version that need so many bug fixes... bukkit has no change to keep up with all the updates to need to releaase because they have so many bugs

no offence mojang, the game is great, but this is getting really annoying now. Check your damn code before you release it, seriously. If the code-base is too big, hire more people. I've never seen another game release so many "bug-fix" patches in such a short space of time in my life.

Mojang now has a fantastic new bug tracker where they can get accurate, up to date bug reports thanks to our very own EvilSeph. This is why you've seen such an influx in fixed bugs - they now know exactly what the bugs are and how to reproduce them. This is a good thing.

Well if this is the result, releasing new versions every 5 minutes, then i fear bukkit is doomed for failure, because we're (bukkit) still stuck at 1.3.2 for a recommended build - and mojang are up to 1.4.5 (!). Even the beta release is 1.4.2. I know it's not bukkits fault, but how can people play multiplayer if most of the players can't even connect as a result of the constant updates. My issue isn't with bukkit, so my post is probably not best served here, tis more of a rage at yet another server update delay for the nth time.

I'm on Bukkit 1.4.5. I'm not "stuck" on anything. Beta builds are going to be released more often as we can promote them faster than a Recommended Build (which are intended to be API complete). There were two beta's for 1.4.2, and 1.4.5 came so quickly after 1.4.4 that it didn't make sense to promote a Beta for 1.4.4.

Of course, dev builds are not for your average server admin, but you are only as stuck as you choose to be. Use the Beta builds if you don't want to follow the dev builds.

For those that want to spend every spare minute rebooting, fixing, fiddling and meddling, a dev build is fine, but for the majority of us, we prefer at least the stability of a beta, in the knowledge that most bugs are gone, so I prefer at least beta's myself.

Anyway, rather than continue ranting and arguing, i shall save my posts for a time when I am less hot-headed and bow out with a thank you to bukkit, and a humble apology if I offended the project or team.

Then wait, but you misrepresent the issue if you say you are stuck, as clearly we have builds out that are compatible with 1.4.4 and 1.4.5
