That kind of looks like you are trying to open up the .jar? Are you editing the config files or the jars?

You have to open permissions.yml, not the jarfile...

Place that jar in your plugins folder and run the server. Then in your plugins folder go in the permissions ex folder and the files with.yml on the end are what you want to edit

Well he kind of did (to the best of his ability). The file states in the first line that it's the .jar file. He's moving the jar file to his desktop and then trying to open the jar file in notepad.

there should be a plugins folder inside your bukkit folder... put the jar in there. Start and stop the server.

You will then notice that the addon has created a folder inside the plugins folder... named after itself. Go inside that and you will see the files you can edit. They will end with .yml.

Right click on the file and select "extract..."

there is no extract, all there is, is 3 things that are in winrar forum. extract here, extract files, and extract to permissionsEX. i tried all three. they didnt work.

    7zip

right click on it and select "extract to PermissionsEx-1.19.3-package(1)"

when you are opening it in notepad++ you are trying to edit the zip file.
here's what i don't understand, windows has native support for zip compression, doubleclicking on that file should have opened up an explorer window. but somehow you've managed to remove that association.

First, remove winrar.. yuck Second, download 7zip. Third, extract the .zip by right clicking: 7zip -> Extract Here. Fourth, edit the .yml files with notepad, not .jar or .zip!

it was probably winrar that hijacked the windows .zip association to begin with.
