It is your video card, many people have this problem including me. Your video card is too old for minecraft text so you have to download a file to change it. Go on google then search "White text chat fix minecraft". Then click the first result. Then look for the one that says "For Vanilla 1.2.5" or something like that. Once you download it, it is basically like installing a mod and if you don't know how to do that the creator of this fix put a video on the same thread. Hope this helped. Hades

After I belive the update to 1.0 this problem was introduced. It was some new software that Notch installed that older video cards could not handle. Since this just came to yours on 1.2.4 your video card must have been newer than other peoples. Good luck on you new fixed minecraft life! Hades
