BTW I've been eyeballing some servers with the dual L5420s and I am not sure though. There seems to be some inconsistencies in the Passmark benchmarks, a single one only gets 3,561 yet dual get over double?...makes no sense.

Benchmarks aren't perfect, they're averages.

So far, the CPUs are great, but I'd always like more RAM, a semi-dedicated KVM, SSDs, gigabit, etc etc...

If I could find someone under $65/month with better specs than my current ones, then I'd move in a heartbeat, but I'm afraid my only option in that price range is OVH, who I'm staying away from (until they open up their Canada DC and/or reveal the 2012 servers).

All I need to do is boot into single user mode, cd to /etc, edit (vi should still work) the rc.local file, and reboot into normal mode and fix it... I think I'll do it tonight. Days are too packed for me :(

I think the reason it's not fully booting is because I told the system to start Minecraft on boot (in rc.local), but it's waiting *forever* for the process to complete. Thus, if I boot into single user mode I should be able to mount the drive and use vim to get rid of the startup line, then reboot into normal mode and see if it works.

OS reload is also $25. I'm fairly certain that if I just boot into single user mode and disable starting a few services it'll start working again.

I think their support is gone right now, no response, I guess they aren't working on weekend nights (although they were active during the day on saturday and on friday night)... Maybe I'll have to do this tomorrow night.

I'm so tempted to continue with my "i give up" decision, but I think I'll attempt to see this through.

DDoS attack, I just got a working ping, most likely from my hf post or from my mysterious followers. I'll investigate more.

Oh, and did I mention that the July/August attacks were from a script kiddy group with a shell booter and too much free time on their hands? And that they exploited a hole in LogBlock to crash the server over and over again until I patched it, then they attempted to extort money to stop the attacks, and wouldn't let up with the attacks for the 2 months it was online.

Basically, I'm a magnet for DDoS attacks and bad luck.

Actually, I managed to fix sendmail (without using postfix!) after a long saga involving SELinux and Sendmail and permissions and a mishap with a permissions script and iptables and more stuff , but the forum isn't exactly setup yet since I lost my database when I moved (I never bothered grabbing it).

I'll either fix the forums or update to MC 1.1 next :)

Yes indeed, I've setup just about everything but advanced firewall rules, teamspeak, boot scripts, and the forums. I just need to make a new post in wordpress and I'm done. Minecraft is up, the only casualties were the iConomy DB.

Kimsufi. I found someone on WHT with a already-provisioned KS-16G that they wanted to sell (with about 3 weeks remaining), so I offered him 32 Euros, and if all goes well, I'll buy it from him tomorrow (since OVH support doesn't work weekends).
