Better Notification/Subscription system, please?

Okay, I like BukkitDev, I really do. It has its flaws, but I can overlook them. But sadly, it's crippled by a poor notification system.

Using the forums was great because I get email notifications, all nicely formatted, when someone posts anything on the plugin thread. Unfortunately, the forum system is limited in other respects that make it hard to use sometimes. I love the fact that we can create our own pages, our own forums, and our own ticket systems. But it all goes down the tubes when you realize you have to manually check things every so often just to get updates!

Now, I don't really know how the Curse system works, but I'm going to assume that it's possible to make modifications to the themes/system. So then, why do we have three things to subscribe to: comments, tickets, and files? I don't want to follow all of these things for some plugins, and for my own, it doesn't cover enough.

One of the best features of BD is the custom forum function. Sadly, it is so inferior to the beautiful XenForo Bukkit forums we have, most of my users still use Bukkit.org instead of BukkitDev. And when your users are using the outdated service, you can't take advantage of the new. The BD forums are clunky and rough, not like the polished, streamlined XenForo board.

We need, first and foremost, forum notifications. This is the single most important feature, in my opinion, that could be added to BD. And global notifications are great, but I'd really like a thread-by-thread or subforum subscription system, which would really make is all worth the trouble. Right now, though, the forums are hard to use since you don't really know when someone replied to you in the first place.

The forums need work, but they're not all. I won't rant about all of it, so here's some of the things that I think could be done to improve the site:
    1. Forum subscriptions
    2. Thread subscriptions
    3. Multiple file "feeds" each with their own subscriptions (updates, dev builds, etc.)
    4. Page-by-page comment subscriptions
    5. A notification manager like Bukkit.org has, so we can subscribe to stuff without getting a million emails
    6. Better yet, integration with Bukkit.org's notification system
    7. Better-formatted email notifications (just a pet-peeve)
I could go on, but it'd just get more and more nitpicky. Either way, I want to like BukkitDev, but this issue is too glaring to overlook. I don't know how easy it is to modify Curse's stuff, but it needs to be modifiable, or the system will fail. If you can't make this work, maybe there's a bigger problem here than just these issues. Curse is great for doing this, but if they can't bend to the communities needs, the community won't bend to theirs. We'll just give up in them.

We fully agree. A notifications system is our highest priority improvement for BukkitDev, thanks for putting together a really well-written feedback post. Much of what you've covered are things we hope to have in a notification system on BukkitDev in the near future.

I wish I could give you an ETA but I am unable to at this point in time. All I can do is say thanks for sticking with us while we work on improving BukkitDev to be the best it can be and reassure you that we are well aware of the issues the service has and are working to address them.

Thanks for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Thanks, it's nice to know that you are all working on fixing this. Sometimes I just worry that Curse is making this harder on you guys. Thanks for all that you do!

I would be happy enough if it didn't send me emails about my own comments.

Yeah that really annoys me. Especially when I go view a plugins tickets and vote on multiple tickets I get tons of emails telling me I voted for a ticket.

Has this been fixed? I don't seem to be getting the emails when I comment on my own plugins any more \o/

Sadly, they were just delayed a while.
