Serious man! Have respect for Antariano's choise for having a closed beta. He wants to make a perfect web panel, that takes time. If he reports a date when he will release open beta, there is a chance that he doesn't have it done in time, so there will be many people disappointed. So i think we all should respect Antariano's about his choses about having a closed and open beta!! And if guys like you have complains about it, than download an other panel, not as good as this one(there aren't :D), and use that one!

Sorry if my english isn't very well ;)

I think that mmuziek only was giving his opinion and has never disrespected Antariano or nobody of the team. The team is having a really good job and the panel will be a hit, but maybe isn't the correct way for test.

I think we're all very eager to have it at hand and not think clearly. Personally, I can not wait to try it, even an updated demo.

I will change my host to the first who offers me SpaceBukkit. SpaceBukkit will make money, i'm sure.

It wasn't actually pointed to mmuziek, but tho the people who keep saying, without reading all the other messages, "Why is it in closed beta" "When will there be a release" etc. But mmuziek gave me reason to leave a message, because under some conditions, starting a closed beta is really smart. But if you have little project with little potention you shouldn't have a closed beta. But in Antariano's case, a very big project with a lot of followers who can't wait to use it ;), It's a good idea to have a closed beta. So you can have a look at bugs without many people have been confrontate with it :)

And just like your said, mmuziek wasn't disrespected to Antariano and his team, sorry about that @mmuziek ;)

    Thanks for your post.

As a side note, I was abroad on holidays, so pardon me for any communication lacks with the community.

Choosing a closed and open beta as development model has many reasons.
    I'll try and explain them.

    1) Ease of development
Having only a selected few of participants and testers allows us to focus our workflow, while the testers know that what has to be done is reporting issues, not "using" the panel in the broader meaning of the term. We don't get spammed with messages and can directly work towards resolving the issues rather then answering messages, or talking to people

    2) Stress level
I must be honest - I was insicure when we went closed beta. After all, I am both perfectionist and VERY critic to my own work, and knowing that others would judge it was pretty stressful for me. Knowing that before it went public it would still be judged by a constraint amount of people helped reassuring me.

    3) Analysis
A closed beta is not there just for development and bug fixing - it's also very useful to track and analyze the reactions of the community.
Everyone has a different way of dealing with stuff, and I get a lot of input from that.

    4) Damage reduction
This one might sound ridiculous, but for me it was a rather big reason. If something, anything, wen't wrong with SpaceBukkit and I had to retire under a false name to Alaska, I woulnd't have hurt too many people. This sounds very bad, I'll try to reformulate: I wanted to make sure that when we release it to public finally, I could sleep well knowing that at least nothing all too bad should or could happen.
Seriously, the first day of Closed Beta I didn't sleep! I coded all night fixing the first issues (being anxious that people might get mad for the first bugs encountered)

I hope this clarifies my point of view

    well that explanes a lot.
but to keep it short. the CLOSED beta when does it become an open one. because thats def not clear.
and if theres no exact date can u call the time u think its gonna take so we can picture something..

We fixed most bugs. There's just some last optimizations and fixes left to do. So, in an ordered manner:

    - Speeding up the plugins page
    - Making the in-panel patcher work
    - Making plugin updates via bukget work
    - Minor improvements

That's all I want before going open beta. So it really won't take long at all.

We also need to completely rethink the Java part, because SpaceBukkit will have its own wrapper and probably more.

Let's give open beta... 1 or 2 weeks max... I'd say

When I come around to do them, or someone does it for me. Actually the system itself is almost implemented, I just didn't get to finish it properly.

So it looks like part of the UI for SpaceBukkit was stolen verbatim from the McMyAdmin frontend:

If you look at Server -> Schedules, the first thing you'll notice is that most of the text is the same as (or extremely similar to) the text used in McMyAdmins scheduler.
If you also look at the HTML, you'll see that some element names are also the same, id="timeType".

I think i'll stay away from this and get McMyAdmin while it's cheap!

Perhaps some parts are inspired by McMyAdmin, so what? Think McMyAdmin isn't going to take a few hints from space bukkit? In the end it's a gorgeous, solid, open panel that is a more then worthy competitor for McMyAdmin.
