Every time one of my players connects to the server, I get a java has crashed message from windows, and then my server goes down. He's the only player that causes this. Any idea why?

    Server info:

    Bukkit Version: 1.0.1-R1
    Server Version: MC 1.0.0

Plugins ran: (up to date as far as I am aware though if that might cause an issue tell me and I can double check if they're updated)

I highly doubt my primary issue is an operating system that works just fine for millions of people worldwide. Not to mention for months he could connect just fine, now all the sudden: nope, no deal.

    nope, wrong

@FloppyDingo we kind of need more information like what the crash was, a stack trace if any.

That's the odd thing. There was no error message. Windows just said "Well, guess what bud? Java needs to close."

The command box for my server simply says "Blah blah TheBadPill connecting..." then "shutting down". No [SEVERE] messages, nothing. It's like it just gives up.

well if its only him tbh, he may be doing something weird in the Minecraft protocol causing the crash. The only thing you can do is ban him, as i assume this is hosted on a network other than your own.

Nope, sadly I'm running it on my own pc at the moment. However I'm purchasing parts to make a server to set up here in my home. I've got a big enough line to support it, and it doesn't lag terribly on my PC, but I'd rather it be on it's own box than on mine personally.

I just logged on his account on my end just fine. No crashes. So it's obviously something with his computer/spoutcraft client/java.

A player connecting to the server shouldnt cause the server to crash at all, even if he is using some sort of messed up hacked version of minecraft. I would try running MC without plugins and getting him to connect.

Until you figure out what the issue is, I also blame windows. Running a MC server on windows is horrible.

    Why?

Because it's a bloated, unsafe, slow and crappy OS. And it's riddled with security holes.

Linux is way better for servers.

Are you telling me, that an OS that costs 200 dollars ( I got it for free though, Microsoft Subscription FTW! ) is worse than Linux ( a free OS) ?

Yes. It's actually worse than both Mac OS and Linux. Price means nothing other than it's a ripoff. Linux is stable, used on thousands if not millions of servers worldwide, and has very few security holes when it's set up right. Windows literally has thousands of exploits and security holes. Mac OS has a small handful of security holes, about the same as Linux. In addition, Windows sucks up memory and CPU like crazy, and it doesn't always play nice with Java, while a minimal installation of CentOS or the like uses almost nothing in terms of CPU/RAM, and it works very well with Java.

    Inb4 OS flamewar.

I bet we can see it in your logs, but I think its Spout. If he has any client mods with ModLoader it will crash your server. I've tested this a couple times. Spout on the server and a client with ModLoader mods will crash your server.
