I won't port LogBlock myself to mcAPI. Source code is available, so it shouldn't be to difficult for someone else to do it, also I'm still here. so I can answer questions. If there is more than one willing, that's up to you to handle that.

The reasons I take this step, are the usual: I quit playing Minecraft about 5 months ago and lastly I was struggling to keep up with updates. The developement of Guardian made slow progress, so I fear it won't be ready to fully replace LB in time.

    Description:

LogBlock logs block changes into a MySQL database. Block changes can be placed or destroyed block, explosions, burned blocks, sign text changes, chest access, leaves decay etc.
It can be used as griefer identification tool, to find out who build a particular building, or even roll back changes by certain players. Other purposes can be e.g: Undoing of forest fires
All additional features are optional, to keep the database as short as possible. All database actions run in their own threads to avoid server lags.
The use of permissions plugin (or any clone) is possible, but not necessary.
Uses Spout for chest logging (but it's fully optional, and there is no need for the client mod at all).

    Features:
    • Logging for block placing, block braking, fire, explosions, leaves decay, signtexts, lava flow and chest content
    • Very mighty commands system, not only allowing to rollback and redo, but also to tp to blockchanges, delete log ingame etc. Full list of commands.
    • Many parameters for lookup/rollback/redo/tp/clearlog commands: Block changes of one ore more player, in a specific area, in a world edit selection, specific block types only, block changes older or newer that a specific date, destroyed/created block only, in a different world and combinations of all these parameters. Full list of parameters.
    • Rebuilding map after importing a backup (/lb redo)
    • Last parameter to use the parameters of the last command
    • Quick ingame lookup of block history a wood pickaxe or a bedrock block.
    • All commands accessible from console (exept tools :D)
    • Custom queries for tools.
    • Different tool modes (lookup, rollback, redo, writelogfile and clearlog)
    • Saves block data like wool color, log type, torch adjustment, etc
    • Multiworld and multiserver support (some servers sharing the same database)
    • BigBrother log import
    • Loggable super pickaxe plugin (not to confuse with WorldEdit's super pickaxe)
    • API
    • Webstats
    Why to use LogBlock:

Example commands: (thanks to tha d0ctor, read more about commands here)

/lb rollback player fire since 1d3h – rolls back fire 1 day 3 hours
/lb rollback player fire since 1d3h area 15 – rolls back fire 1 day 3 hours within a radius of 15 blocks

    /lb rollback player thad0ctor since 1h - rolls back thad0ctor 1 hour
/lb rollback player thad0ctor since 1d area 5 – rolls back thad0ctor actions for the last day within 5 blocks
/lb rollback area 10 since 1h30m - rolls back all modifications within 10 blocks since the list 1 hours and 30 mins
/lb rollback area 10 before 06.11.2011 - roll back all changes in an area of 1o before June 11th, 2011
/lb rollback player thad0ctor since 05:36:00 - roll back all changes of thad0ctor since 05:36 (server time)

    How to post error messages:

I won't aswer questions to general MySQL setup/installation/what is MySQL (there are lots of good tutorials out there, use google)
Please read the installation guide before asking a question about installation problems.
Please read the FAQ before posting a error report. It may be solved there.
In case of rollback or lookup problems: Type /lb savequeue and try again (when it's fixed then, it was a consumer problem, see FAQ)
When you post error messages, it's important to paste the whole stack trace!

Is it more work for the server if you increase those numbers; and what is it actually doing?

Well you can host MySQL severs on your computer, but that's kinda hard on it, along with a mcserver. If you want a 24/7 server, go to mpserv.net or something. I got a dedicated server from them, its cheap :)

Depends, with a remote server the network is the bottleneck and you won't be able to slow down aynthing.

timePerRun: how long the consumer runs in ms before going to sleep.
delayBetweenRun: That what it's called in seconds (yes I now, two different time formats in same config sections ... but that's how it growed :D)
forceToProcess: If the queue isn't empty, the consumer will ignore timePerRun until it processed specified rows.

On a local server, it's adviceable to set force low, best to 0, as when lot's of block changes are queued, the server is usually busy with fire/tnt, so it's a good thing to wait with the queue until there is some cpu left.
With a remothe otherwise the consumer will most likely need to perma-run, and that's easiest achieveable by setting a very high forceToProcess.

EDIT: Why didn't I give you the link to FAQ, I remember to have written there something.
EDIT2: Or was it the "config explained" page? :D

Yea that would help a lot instead of reloading the entire server lol.

    Hello,

I've been using LogBlock for a while. Very much so like the plugin. I run a PVP server that has emphasis on anti-griefing and so in a sense, this plugin is a must. However, I must say that I am concerned with how much resources this plugin takes. It pains me because I hardly come to a situation where this plugin would actually be necessary, but in those situations that it is, it's very nice to have it. However, it causes so much strain on the server that it's a bit mindblowing how much better off I am without this plugin installed.

I was wondering if this level of resource eating is...normal? I run my server on a 16GB 3.4ghz core i7 dedi, I get noticeable lag with just about 40~50 online. I'm not going to be so bold as to pin it all entirely on LogBlock, but it's definitely making a very noticeable impact on usage. Do you have any tips on making LogBlock not be so noticeable, or is that the nature of the beast?

I can almost say that the difference between having LogBlock installed and not having installed is about a 30% performance drop/increase respectively, but then... most numbers like that are made up on the spot. ;)

Still... I guess basically what I'm asking is:

    * Is it normal that this plugin take up so much resources? I suppose it is, but...

    * Is there a way to make it not have such a large impact? Perhaps a tweak in the config.yml?

    * I've heard that I could dedicated LogBlock to it's own core. I'd gladly do this, except... I have no idea how.

Thanks muchly. Love the plugin, but the side-effects... those are rough.

Due to some bad structual decisions from me, that's a bit hard to implement, but I can guarantee that Guardian will have it.
Enabled chest logging in world config?
Tried "/lb savequeue" to make sure the blockchanges arrived in database?

Firstly, LB is normally very resources saving, such a large impact isn't supposed.
If you are logging chest accesses, disable it and remove spout (if you aren't using that for other plugins)
Spout can cause a noticeable lag.

You can increase/or lower consumer settings, but high consumer settings will use more cpu, lower more memory.

The consumer and all commands are always async, so these go to a core with free load.

LogBlock was working fine for me, for about 15 days. Recently it stopped working, I noticed when I restart the server LogBlock works for the first 2 minutes, then it stops recording everything. Yes I tried clearing the MySQL, and clearing the config, same thing happens. I get this very strange error:

Update to dev, this will prevent LB from occasually crashing when imports fail.
About the x column, you need to adjust the columns data type:

Block changes need a little moment to be written into database.
Use /lb savequeue to force that and try again.

Change the tables in world config. The only thing that'll overlap the is chat logging.

Ich würde eine falsche table vermuten. Schau in die LB world config, und kopiere das was da als table steht in die webstats config.
Well, some plugins to strange things to block changes, some are due to bukkig bugs (i still wasn't able to track these down).

Enabled it in the config and it works fine now. How silly of me not to check that in the first place. >.< Thanks for your help. One more thing, do large rollbacks tend to crash people's game (the client, not the server)? Reason I ask is I've had that happen several times to me in the past 2 weeks. I enter a command and then my client screen turns blue, then black. I sadly don't have an error log to give you on this one. :/

Normally not. Update to dev (or 1.32 with fixed console commands), and try the command from console.

No, except stopping the server, but that could lead to unexpected behavior.

No, WorldEdit changes aren't loggeed yet.
