well I think I already pointed 10 people to plugins which already existed but they where still looking for it.. concerning developer tag... well... problem there is it also comes with access privileges.. and a lot of developers still have the tag even when they haven't coded anything in ages.. and with that I mean like updated or fixed their broken plugin.

I haven't made or updated my plugins in ages. I got bored with it. But I'm still a plugin developer; I can develop plugins. Besides, what extra privileges do I have besides access to the Bukkit+ area?

Plugin dev is like bicycle, you don't lose it.

I only use external links for the source and for important fixes that are required immediately.

    See?

well you had 2... you also didn't code a tnt or logger plugin.. and your plugins are on 1060.. BUT.. there are a lot of people who can code plugins... point is .. you need to code plugins and keep them up to date... otherwise I don't know why you are a plugin developer..

well access to bukkit+ is a perk.. and a lot of ACTIVE plugin developers don't have it..

well thats for the bukkit team to decide... but your point make this status a joke... sorry...

Plugin dev status should require atleast one ACTIVE plugin, just because you CAN code a plugin doesn't make you a plugin developer.

If you developed a plugin, you're a plugin developer. Can't be simpler.

    if you've only coded a plugin however, you're just a coder ;)

    ?
So if you've only make one plugin, you're not a developer? That doesn't make sense.

Developing a plugin means you CODED it, making you a Plugin Developer.

No, you WERE a plugin developer, keeping your plugins updated KEEPS you a plugin developer. There\'s a difference.

Well if we are going to get technical and all that fun stuff:

Plugin developer - one who develops plugins

Plugin Developer - title given to certain people on the Bukkit forum, usually written in purple, arbitrarily handed out based on who submits plugins to the Plugin Submissions forum, quite often gives the beholder a false sense of entitlement

  14. True. But there are also some (Do not want to say many and do not want to say like me, because i do not really need it.) who developed and maintain or collaborate with others who still do not have that "entitlement" while others get it right away...

PS: Now that i said "like me" i will certainly get at least one reply saying something along the lines that i do need it for my e-p*** or something like that. Well, honestly, i do not care, it is just that some get that "title" while others don't which makes me feel a bit uncomfortable.

    ONTOPIC:

As long as we are allowed to use and include external links for our downloads i do not care. I can simply put a DEV Snapshot up which won't run so well to get it approved. AND there is nothing wrong with using shorteners like bit.ly in my opinion. They help me keeping my download URL short and track downloads. Now adf.ly is a whole other story!

If BukkitDev gets developed further to the point that things like new PMs are really new etc. I'll use it even more. I like the idea, and it helps keeping track of the whole project and ist not as messy as the forum!

    best regards

From what I heard, shortened links cause problems for servers which auto-update their plugins. It's better to have direct .jar links.

  16. For those users i can provide the static link if i am asked nicely. it is not that there a no possibilities ;)

As long as it's a redirect and not a landing page it will work fine with updaters.

Ah, I can always count on a good ole' Drakia thread to entertain me. More often than not, I can expect at least 2 Moderators, plenty of silly debates, and a whole lot of drama.

Do you actually do anything related to bukkit anymore, or just troll?

5 active plugins with ~16,000 unique hits so far this month (14 days). An alternative to the AJAX laden plugin search, that while it only has ~400 unique visitors, is still very useful for some people. Yeah, I think I still do Bukkit related things. What have you contributed lately? :)

    Here's my take on all of this;
Download links from other site (any site) should be alowed, and accepted by bukkit mods but only if a user has followed suggested statements:
1- If your download link is adfly or something that isn't direct then the plugin will not be released
2- If a user is found to be using adfly or having a virus in their download then they should bear the results (banned/plugin dev title removed)

Those 2 things could be a requirement of being a plugin developer.

Did you really just equate being a plugin developer to murdering somebody?

    DrAgonmoray

    Yeah, I did.
You kill somebody once, you're still a murderer.
You develop a plugin once, you're still a Developer.

What if you become blind? You're still a murderer but not still a developer.
