Nether was reset when switching from bukkit to vanilla

We're running 1.8 vanilla right now on my server since we only had one mod in use with it, but now the Nether has reset so nothing we've built there is present. It was fine on 1.7.3, and I think I vaguely remember the install mentioning splitting the structure for regular and nether worlds.

Does anyone know how we can get our nether back while on vanilla or if it will come back when 1.8 is available and we're using bukkit again?

Craftbukkit stores the nether world in a different location, which would be world_nether. However, vanilla Minecraft stores it in "DIM-1" under the overworld folder. Copy the region folder of your world_nether (the entire folder, not the contents) to a folder named "DIM-1" and it should be available for you on the vanilla server.

In other words, world_nether\regions goes to world\DIM-1\regions
