Towny includes a wide variety of features to offer instant enhancements to your traditional Minecraft server.
    • Allows players to own and manage land based on a pre-set grid layout.
      • Players join towns and purchase plots of land.
      • Players decide who can build, destroy, use "switchs" and use items on every plot they control.

    • Wilderness Rules (Optional)
      • Area between towns is wilderness, with its own build permissions.
      • Limit players' interaction with the wild to just harvest-able blocks, keeping the wild pristine.
      • Roll-back tnt, creeper, wither explosions, dragon damage and endermen block-moving.
      • Block explosions and fire.
    • PVP Enhancements
      • Server with a strong PVP aspect will find Towny's grouping of players to be invaluable.
      • Prevent friendly-fire. (Optional)
      • Nations split players into larger teams.
      • Nations can declare other nations to be allies or enemies, further splitting players into even larger teams.
      • PVP can be turned on/off in wilderness, towns and worlds. (Optional)
    • Teleporting/Warping and Spawning (Optional)
      • Players can spawn to their town upon death.

    @ElgarL

If somebody buys a plot in a town are they automatically added to the list of town members instead of the mayor having to do /t add <name>

A person cannot buy a plot of land in a town without being a resident.

isn't that a bit stupid? owning a part of the town but not contributing towards more plots?

im using the old version of towny and town renaming is disabled is it the same in this version?
Just out of interest y was it disabled?

Town renaming is re-enabled now. It was disabled by fuzze for a good reason, it was something to do with a town's money or because of a data file bug/corruption. It works fine now, if you would like help upgrading join the IRC channel and I'll help you.

Not sure if you understood me, when a town gets a new resident, the mayor usually get access to 16 more plots he/she can claim. A player who doesn't reside in a town cannot own property there. In the future an embassy plot will allow for what you want.

can a player request to join the town or does the mayor have to request it?

Mayors or town-assistants need to invite a player, unless you've set up a default spawn-town, in which case new players are automatically added to that town upon joining the server.

There's a ticket for towns to be non-invite only, but it raises very big security issues in towns that allow residents to build/destroy on public land.

well surely it would be better if when someone finds a town they can buy a plot and this would automatically make you part of that town?

maybe this could be an option in the config:

Auto Residency: True # this allows players to buy plots in any town at anytime and become a member of that town

Again, that raises major security issues for a town. If you'd like to discuss it join the IRC, linked in the first post of this thread.

If you're using a pre-0.72 version of Towny you'll be losing the config.properties and gaining a config.yml and english.yml. The wiki has upgrade instructions for both pre-0.72 and post 0.72 upgrades.

Joining the IRC is probably a good idea. Around 0.73, Towny started to care about corrupted data, which previous Towny's just ignored. It's really easy to fix most of the time so just join the IRC and hang out while you upgrade.

    Replace the old jar.

I was reading through the heroes forum to see how to configure it and such, and I noticed that there's an issue with towny while using a heroes skill, I was wondering if that was fixed... I would REALLY love to have both towny and heroes together on the server to have the best of both world (pvp and pve) so yeah, I'm hoping there isn't an issue because Towny's my favorite town plugin.

  15. If you don't post the issue there's no way for us to tell.

Sorry I don't really know the issue, I just saw someone else posted it, if I find it after I have everything all set up (we're revamping our server for 1.8) then I'll make sure to post it. Sorry, I really wish I could post it so that you could fix it but I don't have all the information.

  18. No. It's implemented via Register and we don't support Register. It's too much of a clunky system to include all their code in our project.
If they release a single plugin we can hook then we likely would, but requiring everyone to import all that (untidy) code into every plugin is something we at Towny are not willing to do.

I though there was a non-register hooking method with it, as shown here :

But it might be outdated - @ashtheking is it ?

I went to the wiki to download, but all the downloads say that the file isn't on the server. Help please?

    Oh, the error was:
There was no info about this resident in "residents" folder, but he was in the residents.txt list.
    Looks like a bug?

Hmm? It's not outdated, it's just very lacking ATM. Also, you don't need every user to import that code. You just add it to your plugin jar, and use it as you would any other library. You are supposed to rename its packaging.

  26. Due to the way Register is written it throws multipe warnings. We don't code that way with Towny. So while Register remains the way it is, we'll not be using it.

It's not every user who has to import the code for register, It's EVERY plugin that wants to use it. Instead of doing it the sensible way and providing it's own jar which everyone can hook into.

If there's no t6bi4.txt and he isn't listed in any towns' townname.txt files remove his name from reidents.txt.
