If you're running 64-bit windows (which in TheNorthFace's case, you are), you should have 64-bit java installed. In which case there's no reason for you to touch the 32-bit STARTER.bat file.

It seems to me that there might be a problem with either the version of bukkit you're using, or the STARTER.bat file isn't working properly.

Try downloading the latest version of bukkit from http://bamboo.lukegb.com/ (click on BUKKIT-CRAFTBUKKIT-XXX, should be a green link. Then click on the 'Artifacts' tab. Then click the CraftBukkitJAR link, which is under the 'User Defined Artifacts' section). Place it in the same folder as you're current craftbukkit-0.0.1-SNAPSHOT.jar file, and click 'replace'. Then try to launch the STARTER.bat file (remember to click the one associated with your OS, i.e. 64-Bit if you're running 64-bit windows).

If that doesn't work, then upload/post the STARTER.bat files.

    @echo off
    "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe" -Xincgc -Xmx1024M -jar craftbukkit-0.0.1-SNAPSHOT.jar
    pause

Found the problem. Windows doesn't like the -Xincgc tag (go figure).

In the STARTER.bat file you use to start your server with, replace -Xincgc with -Xms####M where #### is the same number value in the -Xmx####M tag.

So if you had -Xmx1024M, then replace -Xincgc with -Xms1024M.

The windows installer will probably be updated soon to fix this.

I've added an alternative Windows setup, please download it if you are having problems with the original.

when we download the new one, should we have to do the command stuff that Toasty said, and if so, where do we place that? because just using the new download still gives the exact same error for me.

Oh wait. Durr. This is a permissions issue.

Stop using the new Windows installer, and stick with the old one. It's better. Instead, do this:

Locate your CraftBukkit folder (Should be under "C:\Program Files (x86)")

Right click on it, and click on "Properties".

Go to the "Security" tab. You should see an "Edit" button. Click it.

You should now see another window pop up, and there should be an "add" button in it. Click that.

Type in your username for this computer, then click "check names". If it finds you, click OK
Now, you should see your username in the "Group or user names" section, and it should be highlighted. If it's not highlighted, then click on it.

Now, check the box next to "Full control" in the "Permissions for [username]" section. Click Apply, click OK, then click OK again.

You should now be able to start craft bukkit.

ok it works now thanks, one question how is this diiferent from the previous bukkit server we were running or was just a better way to download

That depends on how they connect. If you're using Hamachi or OpenVPN, you'll need to give them the IP address associated with that service (Hamachi gives you one, OpenVPN lets you set your own).

If you're not using a VPN, then you'll want to give them your external IP address. Normally people have their computers connected to a home network, and the IP address is along the lines of 192.168.1.xxx or something. That is your internal IP address. You can find your external one by going to http://www.whatsmyip.org/. It should be at the top of the webpage.

In the above instance, you also need to make sure the port for the minecraft service (typically 25565) is being forwarded by your router to your internal IP address (in windows 7, go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network connections, right click on your connection, go to Status, and click details. You want the IPv4 address). For a tutorial on port forwarding, go to portforward.com

This new method doesn't change anything about bukkit. It still installs the latest version available, but does so in a quicker and easier manner.

What's the difference between the 32 bit and 64 bit starter files?

  21. Offline

    Toasty

One is for use on a 32-bit system, and the other is for use on 64-bit systems. Though it seems like to me that it uses32-bit java regardless. I could be wrong, however.

All of the installers link to a file that is automatically updated with the latest version of bukkit. So when we say "latest version of bukkit" we mean the latest version.

You can find the latest version by going to http://bamboo.lukegb.com/browse/BUKKIT
The latest version of bukkit is located just to the right of where it says "CraftBukkit".

Also note that none of the installers are capable of checking for the latest working release, though I imagine that the file linked to in the installers is only updated with the most recent working version. Though I could be wrong.

The only difference between the two files is the location they look in when locating the java executable. One looks in C:\Programs and Files (x86) and the other just looks in C:\Programs and Files. The former is the link for 64-bit versions of windows.
