    Sticky please? Repost? :p

The Read Time Out error is not a new thing for Minecraft, nor the internet in general.
This error occurs when Minecraft tries to send packets to the server, and when it comes back it comes back with incomplete or corrupted packets, otherwise unusable.
The read time out error is NOT an error of bukkit, it's a common internet error to were somebody doesn't have a good internet connection. Another case is when certain plugins cannot send data properly and 'Times Out' crashing the clients connection with the server.

I wouldn't say so. Even when Read timeD out is not just a Bukkit issue, it may be caused by plugins (in the sense that plugins overload the server causing that issue) . And I can confirm that. You wanna confirm, too? Just plug in forever chunk loaders, keep minecart loadded plugins, and that kind of stuff, and also permisions 3.1.6 is known to be causing Read timed out issues.

I am sure you will get some help, but first I would ask you to read the well thought out first post. You might get help quite a bit faster.

Have you tried chunkster on your map?
How many users on your server?
Any errors before "Read timed out" or just that?

    Trevor_

    Have Used Chunkster
1-150, it happens at any time.
No Errors beforehand, it's entirely random.

  9. This is just ridiculous. I have tried every possible thing to try and fix this error. I've ran through Chunkster, I've gotten rid of McMMO and Permissions all together. I've installed that custom Permissions. I've tried to update all my plugins. CPU Usage on my McMyAdmin menu drops to 0% and then spams a couple "Read Timed Out" messages, then eventually it goes back to normal. There must be some kind of solution.

    Lol, hey Vittek

I don't think is a bukkit issue at all, either plugin, hardware, or network problems, guys :(

    Feedback from earlier posts,
I've recently installed a plugin that helped fix my Read Timed Out issues. Having a server restart every hour seems to have removed the issue entirely. Unsure for the rest of you, but this did it for me.

    I think it's a bukkit bug -.-

Im just guessing something random happened which causes this read time out error.

New to servers but my friends are getting this server. I am running it LAN and the host computer never gets a time out but the other computers do. The host computer:
    64 bit windows 7
8gb - 1gb to the server (won't let me add more, always says can't create the vm)
    java 1.7.0_04
    i5 2500k overclocked at 3.4ghz
running Ethernet to my router, other computers are connected wirelessly
I have verizon fios but it shouldn't matter as it is a LAN server
there is an exception in my computers firewall to let in access for the Minecraft server only inside my routers firewall.
    craftbukkit-1.2.5-r4.0
    plugins:
    moarrows_v2.4.0
    MobRain
    PlgSetSpawn

when running server with people connected cpu < 40% ram <50%
map is not that large. I have probably a 2k by 2k map maybe a bit more.

    You really necro'd that post.

The most dangerous read time outs occur when the server has either been taxed too hard. Recently I was using a popular anti xray plugin on my server, and set the open cache files too high for my server to handle. The result was my server ran for a while, it up and crashed with Read Time Out errors because the server could no longer open more files.

Now, there are a few ways I could have handled that. I could have set the open file limit higher, but really, that's a bandaid fix. The solution I took on was modifying my plugin to decrease the amount of open cache files it would use.

In my case, I saw a great stack trace that led me to know what the offending plugin was right before my server stopped responding and generating nothing but read time outs. That made it easy to determine, but some plugins won't act the same way. You may need to undertake the old trial and error method - remove plugins until you find the one that causes your problems.
