1. Open Help's JAR with 7zip.
2. Find MANIFEST.MF (it can be in the root folder or in the META-INF folder, or both).
3. Open the MANIFEST.MF file in a text editor
4. Look for a line that starts with "Class-Path:".
5. Delete "Permissions.jar" from that line.
6. Save the manifest.
7. 7zip will prompt you to save changes back into the archive. Accept.
8. Restart server.

Plugin Authors: How to hook into Permissions​

Due to @TheYeti being busy in RL for now, I have created a new thread for Permissions 3.x. TheYeti is still part of the Permissions team.​

Permissions... Reborn.

This is a continuation of the work that was originally done by Nijikokun. All original credit goes to them as without their work this plugin would not have been possible. This plugin does not provide any commands or additional functionality beyond what is described in this post. That means that you need another plugin to provide colored names, chat prefixes, and op commands such as /give and /time.​

The Permissions Team​

The team consists of myself @rcjrrjcr and @TheYeti currently with contributions from @Nijikokun as well on occasion. There are also several other members of the community who frequently assist with providing code changes, bug fixes, patches, support, feedback, and beta testing. Special thanks to @flames and the Dynmap & Wormhole X-Treme teams for the hosting of Permissions on their Jenkins server.​

What's new in 3.x?

Taken from the GitHub page:

1. In-game commands. For a long time, users have been pestering, nagging, demanding and/or screaming for an way to manage Permissions via commands. Now, in 3.0, in-game commands are available to manage permissions and groups.
2. SQL storage. This allows web interfaces to manage Permissions by updating the SQL database Permissions uses.
3. Promotion/demotion tracks. With a simple command, users can be promoted/demoted along a preconfigured track, allowing RP servers with ranks to promote the player along a class track and other possibilities.
4. Multigroup.
5. Weightage. Plugins are able to compare users via their weight, which is inherited from their groups. For example, SlapPlugin can check if Player A is higher-weighted than Player B when A tries to slap B (Not IRL, obviously).
6. Improved world mirroring. Config files are now split into a group file and a user file. Also, by editing storageconfig.yml, you can configure the mirroring of entire worlds, or just its users/groups. You also do not have to create files for worlds that mirror another world. Also, two different worlds can use different storage types, like YAML and SQL.
7. Global permissions. Instead of having to resort to cross-world group inheritance, now all worlds inherit groups and users from the global permissions file. Also, the inherited groups/users can be overridden via editing the specific world's file.

Upgrading from 2.x to 3.x

I have written a guide on GitHub. This demonstrates how to convert 2.x-style configs to 3.0. The YAML-to-SQL converter are still in testing, but it can be downloaded from here. It's written in Perl. @Zgred has created a web version of the script located here. @omgneeq is working on an Web UI for SQL databases (Sorry about the previous statement that he was making a converter.)​

First thing that you will need to do is download the plugin. Place it in your plugins/ folder and unzip it. This should create the folder Permissions and a Permissions.jar file in your plugins folder. Next, go into Permissions/ and create a folder named the same as your world. So if your world name from server.properties is Foo you will need to create the folder plugins/Permissions/Foo. You MUST rename it to whatever your world's name is or it will not work.

Note, if you have your server maps all saved into a single directory then the initial setup will be somewhat different. Say your maps are arranged in the main directory like so: bukkit/mapfolder/world1, bukkit/mapfolder/world2, etc. Then inside of the plugin/Permissions directory you will need to create a folder called mapfolder and inside of that put the directories containing users.yml and groups.yml in there.

Next, you will need to go in and add yourself to the users, just replace the user that is in there with your name. Make any other modifications that you need to. While making modifications make sure that you do NOT use tabs. These will break the YAML format and cause issues. Instead, each indent should be four spaces. If you want people who aren't in the Admin group to be able to reload the permissions plugin you need to give them 'permissions.reload' permissions within the config file.

Permissions gives server admins great control, mostly in-game reloading. More info about commands can be found here.

[Q] What is with the version numbers? I can't keep up, it seems like every time I look there is a new version!
[A] I use the GNU versioning system for my version numbers. So what this means is the version number should be read as Major.Minor.Revision. So for version 2.5.2 this would mean it is the 2nd Major version, the 5th Minor release in this version, and the 2nd revision. I tend to release bug fixes and anything that doesn't add functionality or will not break things as revisions. So generally you should be safe with just watching the major & minor numbers and only getting the revision if it fixes a bug specific to you. Technically 2.5.2 should have been released as 2.6 as it did add functionality, but this was below even a minor change so I released it as a revision.

[Q] I am getting an error that it can't pass BLOCK_PLACED or BLOCK _BREAK events to Permissions. Fix it!
[A] That's not a question. The reason why it can't place these is probably because the syntax of your Permissions file is all whacked out, or it is a different world and you don't have a config file for that world.

[Q] What am I suppose to name the config file?
[A] You need to name it the same as your world. So if you look in server.properties at "level-name" you will see a world name there. Rename your config file to the same thing as that. Make sure you keep the .yml extension at the end.

[Q] Permissions are broken. Why can no one use commands? Why am I not an admin?
[A] First off, make sure that your formatting is correct. Look at the format that the default config file uses. Yours should look like that. Do NOT use tabs. Use 4 spaces (IE. " " <-- Four of those things.). Also, whichever group you give the permission '*' to, do not have that group inherit permissions from anyone else. That is called overloading and it will break things. Also, this.


[Q] Which one am I suppose to download and unzip to install this?
[A] Download the main package, not the JAR only. Unzip the ZIP file. The JAR only downloads are simply there for people who are UPGRADING and do not need the default config file.

[Q] I have done all of this and this doesn't work! I'm going back to GroupManager!
[A] Well, there is probably the problem. Make sure that you delete EssentialsGroupManager.jar and EssentialsGroupBridge.jar as these don't play well with Permissions and will cause headache.

[Q] When are you going to add <blah> <feature/command> into this already? You suck! Do what I want NAU PL0X!
[A] Feature requests should be posted on the GitHub tracker. Stupid suggestions like adding teleportation functionality and other less ludicrous stuff will be rejected.

Last but not least, I would like to thank Nijikokun and TheYeti for developing P2, which was one of my core plugins when I was still a 14-year-old server admin that didn't understand Java, and was the base for 3.0. If after reading through all of that you are still having issues do one of two things. If it is a provable bug, and you have things like screenshots or copies of startup, steps to reproduce, your craftbukkit build and the version this is running along with your config files then submit the bug on the issue tracker. You didn't post your users.yml so I will assume that most of the people are Builders which have all permissions or they are OPs which have all permissions.

Just doing a quick search of the Essentials site tells me that you have to also give them essentials.time.* to allow them to change the time.

You guys missed the best part of this guys nerd rage. His first post was quite the rage post but instead of calling the dev bad names, he decided to call everyone who helps in this thread "morons". He then followed it up with other posts which he eventually deleted but not before I saw them.

Because I just can't resist, I figured out his problems then just preceded to ignore him.

I would suggest running the Help plugin not the HELP plugin.

The error is usually caused by an out of date plugin so I would update those that I listed.

Guys really, this is in my storageconfig. Someone gave me a link where is everything explainted. But i DONT KNOW how to link to MySQL, need i permissionssql.jar or how the hell and where can i see, that its fucking linked to permissions, in serverlog is nothing just "permissions linked to sql" Having a look into my mysql-settings, i see there a lot of tables crated by permissions, so this means: mysql works now right or need i some more commands?

Hey very nice Plugin and good that you continued it. But got a quetsion: is it possible to disallow Warps for users? Maybe someone could help me?

 

the latest version made the "Read time out" error and server crashes, we need a sqltoyaml convertor or a fix, my server crash every two hours since i downgrade Permissions to 2.7 and now all works good!

Well, I guess nobody can help, any suggestions for plugins that can delete my full users file every hour or so? SO I dont have to log on all the times to do it..

 

Is there a way to make players be able to select permissions group without admins intervention. Like signs or something so i.e. on spawn they can select if they want to be Good or Evil.

 

Using iChat and Permissions multigroup support I am trying to get it so my VIP and Donor Status have Tags and Color's. That part is easy. It is when i get to the Multigroup support / weighting....

I have different Spawns for different Factions (Perm Groups) So a Player can be in Faction A and a VIP at the same time. Spawncontrol plugin is looking at 'Member ' or 'VIP' to see where to spawn them. When I need it to look at The Faction group instead.

But then I need iChat to look at the 'Member' or 'VIP' group for the proper Tag. Is there anyway with the multigroup support that Perm 3.x has and or weighting to set this up? If so how.

I did everything exactly like you said. I made myself a citizen and took myself off the OP list so I could test it all out. And guess what? SUPRISE SUPRISE! It STILL doesn't work! I couldn't use any of the chest shops. I couldn't access the bank, and I couldn't read my own info file that I set up in the essentials plugin.
So yeah. I am done trying with this crap. I will find another permissions style plugin that actually WORKS. Thanks for trying to help me though.

 

Permissions run fine i just need the code to put in the config. cause i try writing the code myself but i fail. I want to be the admin on my server and have access to all commands, my name on minecrfat is: BattleGroundxx. I want my friend to be a moderator and have access to all default commands, His name on Minecraft is: mittydoug. The plugins I am currently running are:

I've never had any luck getting it to work myself so I'm not sure if those are the messages that tell you it is working but it seems like it would be really easy to test. Just run a few commands in the console and see what comes back. Check your permissions using "pr <user> has <permission>" or something along those lines.

That would be something that your warp plugin would handle.

I remember that bug but I can't remember which plugin caused it and 818 is a bit old at this point. You might crawl thru the bug tracker for CraftBukkit and see when it was fixed.

"/pr (playername) promote" requires the default track to be set up by you only have MainTrack right now. Try using "/pr (playername) promote t:MainTrack" instead.

Adding a user then logging off and on shouldn't cause any users.yml corruption. Are you sure there isn't a /reload happening somewhere in there too? /reload has been causing a lot of problems with many plugins out there including Permissions.

That would be something that the other plugins would need to support and as it is right now, none of them have been converted to support the weighting. The best you can do on the Permissions side is put the most important group at the top of the groups list.

You can do that with WorldGuards blacklist.

Yes, but on the server I help out, its a grief / hardcore PVP, you know type of server.
World Guard nerfs alot of things that we use, Fire Spread, Creepers, ect.

i need a command for this situation:
A new Guest join on my server. This Guest have the group "Guest". I need a Command to take the Guest from Group "Guest" to "Member" in ALL Worlds, not online in the "main-world".

Which command i need? I hope you can help me.

I asked for assistance earlier and go it (Thanks alot!) but I can't seem to get the method you suggested to work.
Alright, I'm trying to use inheritance in the storageconfig, this seems to be exactly what I need, but I've tried using it several ways now and it just doesn't seem to be doing anything. I'm trying to get War_Zone_Nether to inherit from War_Zone, but even when I changed the world names to remove the spaces, it just doesn't seem to do anything. No errors are output by the console, and no error messages are broadcast in the chat. Here is my storage config.

I can't say a plugin, but if you know how to use FTP (If you are hosted) You could use a .bat, ran on a schedule.

set up the storageconfig.yml to mirror your worlds?

 

I just installed the latest CraftBukkit and took the opportunity to load (the latest) Permissions as the first plugin.
It's not working so far, I don't see the plugin loading when starting the server. Still trying to find out why....

I downloaded the ZIP-file and extracted it in the plugins folder. (I did fix the things I found out below). Still it's not working. According to the Bukkit wiki it should... but it really doesn't look like it...

Update:
I moved all the files (which I extracted from the ZIP-file) from my self-created plugins/Permissions directory to the plugins/ directory.

I then launched minecraft and the plugin was detected, as it showed in the console. It also showed that storageconfig.yml was created.

After stopping the server and going into the plugins/Permissions directory, I realized that this was recreated automatically somehow (together with the 'world' and 'world_nether' folders)? As far as I can see, this behavior isn't described anywhere...

My findings so far:

• In the "Install" textbox on this forum, it says:

The current ZIP-file, which is linked in that very same post, does not contain a subfolder.

The directory is already there (it is named: RENAME-ME). It should be renamed to both of the 'world'-directories (i.e. 'world' and 'world_nether').

• The ZIP-file does not contain storageconfig.yml. I could not find anywhere that I have to create it manually (missing from install directions?).

Above is what I found out, after visiting the linked Github setup guide. It doesn't tell me to create the file, however, I could see that the file should be there. Still, the following is a little missleading:

Under linux, a filename starting with a capital S, is different from a file starting with a lower-case 's'. I guess it has to do with naming the pages on that specific Wiki (all topics starting with a capital character?), but it might be nice to clearly mention that the actual filename should be with a lower-case 's'.

 

I'm getting the error when using give or tp, ban and other commands: An internal error occurred while attempting to perform this command.

Here's my group files, am I doing something wrong?

That didn't work. Now even the /list command isn't working. This is making things bonkers.

Any other suggestions? Don't want to have to restart the server from scratch.

What about the indenting of your groups.yml. Do all lines in this file start at the first position (without spaces) as you pasted this onto this forum? If yes, have a look at the YAML Guide on Github.

Negative. That's just the way it pasted. I have it formatted exactly the way it was when I downloaded it. I'll attach the file for good measure.

It's a txt as I couldn't upload the yml.

I've even tried removing all of the stuff I added to the file, and those commands still won't work now, I get the internal error message.

Help would be appreciated, I can't figure this out for the life of me, believe me, I've tried.

 

Not sure if it will help, but can you please try without the emtpy lines between the groups?

 

Now that I got permissions working no one seems to be able to build? Yet they clearly have the rights. I don't get any errors either.
