Thank you for the Lock (not sarcasm), I guess some people are not entitled to their opinion.

    Is it allowed to make a plugin and then simply just hand it over to someone so they can get the "plugin dev" tag ... Like this one. Honestly, it doesn't seem very ethical and I think we should really harden up about who you guys give the plugin dev tag too. Especially with all the plugin theft lately I think we really need to crack down. In addition, I think the source should be mandatory. This will make plugin theft easier to catch. @EvilSeph ; I'm not saying this is a great solution but what do you think? Do you agree that something must be done?

    that would be unfair, you probably could if no one knew about it, but I don't think it's a good choice.

    I am against it as well

    Your phrasing confused me, sorry :p

    no problem, I'll try to be more clear.

    however making the source mandatory would not change much, if someone is giving it to a friend they could give them the source and they could even make the source look as if it's the other persons by using a different namespace and etc, it's not going to be easy to find them, but there needs to be something.

    For that I was kind of rambling on to say that people should have to supply a source because there has been a lot of plugin theft lately from plugins already made.

    that type will be easier, but the type described in your first sentence would be almost impossible.

    You need to relax, they're just titles. Do you feel so special that you have a title that you need to use words like "ethical" when talking about it? You just accused me of stealing a plugin that had 10% of the features of another one, relax man.

    If users of the plugin are receiving support for their problems then who's getting hurt? No one. I only have a problem when so someone pretends to develop a plugin and keeps promising fixes/updates that aren't coming or they don't even know how to do.

    What exactly is unethical? This is an internet forum for a Minecraft server modification software. Get over it.

    I didn't accuse you of stealing anything, I simply pointed out your plugin was very similar to another. I do this because unfortunately, this is something that needs to be watched out for. And honestly, it really has nothing to do with the title for me,

    @Walker Crouse
    It has everything to do with the title. You wanted to feel cool and better than me by catching me stealing a plugin. You literally posted the same thing CaptainAwesome did when he caught a plugin stealer. Don't even pretend like you weren't accusing me stealing.

    No need to act all high and mighty and better than everyone because you can cancel an onEntityBurn event. As aPunch said, get over it.

    @SwearWord now you are accusing him of something as well, trying to get back and of that same feeling of more importance that you think WalkerCrouse has taken from you, the thing here is, no one on this thread knows exactly where the other person's view is coming from. Walker is pointing out POSSIBLE thefts or plugins that are similar in code, features, uses, etc... I see where you are coming from though

    @WalkerCrouse you did accuse him of that plugin being stolen, quote:
    but I agree with you on the title, I could care less if I had it or not, people are still going to read things, people are still going to possibly learn things from people without titles, take ShameBot for example, he gives a lot of help to people, he could very easily become a plugin developer if he wanted to, but from what I see he likes helping people more than just being up there with the "top" (hint, the "quotes"=sarcasm)

    @SwearWord look at this quote and see if you understand something:
    There is no way to know if someone has stolen a plugin from someone or has been given it, with a few exceptions, he's simply pointing out a plugin that has similar features and stuff to the mods as a "reference" to what type of stuff to be watched out for.

    @DreadKyller
    The plugin he linked to on this thread was not mine. He posted on one of my threads accusing me of stealing copying a plugin which literally had < 10% of the same features. If he bothered to spend an extra minute seeing what other plugins I'd made, he'd know I wasn't a thief.

    I'm not accusing him of anything, I KNOW it's all about the titles. I was just like this when I was younger but I got sense smacked into me and realized how stupid I was.

    Oo, I though it was you because of the wording you chose in your post. and what I'm saying is(and walkers') is that it
    s NOT about the title, for some people I guess it is, but personally we could care less.

    @Walker Crouse he does have a point, <10% is not copying, in some terms. but @SwearWord you did not do this, I compared the source codes and they are different, even if a plugin has 5% of the same features, if the person takes that persons plugin and just adds to it it's still copying the original work, once again, you did NOT do this, but just pointing out that a % does not really mean much sometimes.

    I still don't know who's getting hurt. Even if 50% of the code was copied and the rest is different, plugin users benefit from the increase in choice. As long as plugins are being maintained and supported who cares. Most plugin devs are mature enough to understand that when their code is being copied and modified it just results in progress and time saved for the developer.

    No one is losing money from borrowed code, all they're losing is some shallow feeling of pride. And in general most plugins credits are extensive, I gave credits to even the smallest thing I borrowed a list of items just in case I was dealing with fragile egos.

    Why is open source successful? Because of the idea that my code is your code. When code is borrowed it's not because people can't do it themselves, it's because it's already been done and why be redundant.

    You wanna stop raging guys? This is getting a little out of hand...

    And I am all for open source as you can see here

    My point is I don't see that it is right for someone to claim someones work. Someone else must agree because after I posted this the plugin author of previously mentioned plugin is no longer a plugin dev (not like that matters and I couldn't care either way)

    @SwearWord
    I don't know whats up with you but I think you're the one who needs to chill.

    I'm not even raging, I'm just talking. I could care less about what someone replies at this point, I stated a simple point, not out of anger, I even supported the person 50% in that post.

    @SwearWord for the last two posts I have taken your point of view, maybe you can take ours? look at where we are coming from? in my last post I basically agreed with you and you reply in a way that makes everyone on this thread feel like an a**.

    How am I making everyone feel like an asshole. I just asked who's getting hurt? Do you feel like an ass because you don't know how to answer that? I also don't understand this. You just consider making a point as raging.

    nevermind... I'm just saying stuff, even supporting you, and then a commant comes out with something saying something not right with what I'm supporting you on... I don't get it either

    Hmm so instead of of answering my questions on "who's being hurt" you ignore it.
    I may be a dick but at least I try to respond intelligently.

    @Walker Crouse @SwearWord ... this is starting to go way off topic, if you want this thread closed someone can contact a moderator, cause this is just insane. @Walker Crouse I was not saying HE is an ass, I said he was making others feel like one, so calling him one fliped it around and got the argument going again when it was starting to calm down
