Whats everyones opinon on a SSD for hosting minecraft ?

Doesn't most of the stress on a server come from the hard-drive trying to keep up with chunks ?

yes i think you are correct there is a lot of stress on the hard drive. After the halloween update the host that i use for my server (Multiplay) started updating all the minecraft server to SSD's to stop the lag and it worked very well. running a minecraft server hoggs a lot of cpu and ram too its not as simple to run as it looks.

Minecraft is terrible to SSD drives because of all of the writes. You are better off running MC in a ramdisk then spending the money for a SSD that it will pound to death.

just make sure that you save the ramdrive to disk every so often as a power outage will cause you to lose the data on it
