    The description says it all, I think sponge and others like it are doing it all backwards, why make a new api when you could just make a plugin for bukkit that supports an already existing api (forge)

    Wouldn't it be cool if there was a plugin out there that would create a mods folder in your plugins folder where you could drop mods to your hearts content?

    Well I think it would be cool, In Fact more than just cool, more like REVOLUTIONARY!!!

    You may think im crazy to even suggest this but to me it sounds a lot better than the current alternatives, and i don't think that finding support and sponsors for the project would be difficult either, Hell, i'll be the first to make my monthly donations and i'm sure others like me would gladly support such a project!

    Before staff or any other potential flaggers of this post get involved please consider this;

    I am talking Bukkit plugins here, So please give this post a chance and don't move it to bukkit alternatives / etc that includes potential flaggers as well, I'm not talking alternatives I'm talking bukkit here! and i think its high time that bukkit and forge shake hands, Plugins + Mods = Match made in Heaven, and if you deny that well then I'd say you haven't tried the combo for yourself yet ;P

    In summary:

    FORGE emulator plugin for bukkit! 1 0 0 % Pure epicness :D

    only question is;

    Who's got the guts to make it happen?

    As far as i know this isnt possible without a custom build of craftbukkit.

    I disagree i think a plugin that could implement the forge API is very possible :p

    Without insane amounts of asm and reflection this is not possible (likely isn't possible simply because of the differences of internals between Forge and Bukkit). In other words it is not plausible.

    EDIT: There are bukkit plugins, however that add forge like apis. eg. SensibleToolbox

    I think anything is possible, especially if its been done before, ( cauldron, sponge + pore etc ) same concept as the examples mentioned just a different approach, don't get me wrong tho I'm no dev by any means! to me it just doesn't seem soo far fetched, would really love to see someone take this on, would change minecraft as a whole for ALOT of people :D

    Cauldron changes internals, a plugin cannot do that by any simple means. What you are asking for is a custom bukkit build when cauldron is already there.

    A plugin can't do that, you can implement parts of the forge api through plugins, but not the entire api as the internals are very very different. And anything isn't possible, if the bukkit api does not support it, it can't be done on the bukkit api. Just use the already existing tools, because creating a new api to run a server is way too much work for a request that cannot offer money. And bukkit can't modify most client side things, such as mods. It just isn't possible to make a plugin like that. cauldron was made for that exact reason.

    Thank you

    @killyouslow
    I cant believe this argument is being had right now
    The answer is simply : Not possible.
    Full stop, unless you have a custom build of craft bukkit you cannot run forge mods. There is nothing more to it
