I know that Bukkit's downloads have been taken down due to copyright issues, however there are tons of downloads of Bukkit 1.8.1 that players managed to grab and upload to places like Media Fire. My current 1.7.10 version works fine, however when I go to put the 1.8.1 version in, Essentials goes in to "Emergency Mode". What does that mean, and how can I fix it? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

You should never, ever, grab a (Craft)Bukkit build off of MediaFire or anything like that. They are very likely to contain malicious code.

Don't ever download a .jar file you found in the wild.

It's very easy to make your own version of CraftBukkit 1.8 or Spigot 1.8. Follow these instructions:
    http://www.spigotmc.org/threads/buildtools-updates-information.42865/
Don't be intimidated. It's e-a-s-y. When you're done (takes 10 minutes or so), you'll have your choice of CraftBukkit or Spigot 1.8 in your folder.

Now you need to update some plugins like Essentials, because the old versions don't work with 1.8.

@timtower @Bobcat00 @Lolmewn Thank you very much! I'll try Bobcatoo's suggestion and let you know if it works.

    I tried to do it
@Bobcat00's way but it didn't work. Any other suggestions?

You using Windows? Did you install Git Bash? Open a Git window? A regular command window won't work. Download BuildTools? Run BuildTools? Then what happened?

    @Bobcat00
    - 1 Download
    Git: http://msysgit.github.io/

    - 2 Download
    BuildTools: https://hub.spigotmc.org/jenkins/job/BuildTools/lastSuccessfulBuild/artifact/target/BuildTools.jar

    - 3 Place BuildTools.jar in the folder you want to have Bukkit.jar e.t.c.

    - 4 Rightclick at BuildTools.jar and select Git Bash.

    - 5 (There opens a window.) Type in the window: java -jar BuildTools.jar

    - 6 Wait for like 10 minutes or longer. And you have the Bukkit.jar, Craftbukkit.jar & Spigot.jar. (And also the sources).

Say it if it's working. or not.

I've been using 1.8 for 3 weeks. It's @Zanecdavis who is having problems.

I have to ask.. With this version home-compiled, are we looking at a fully functional 1.8.x server, or a 1.7.x server that accepts 1.8 clients, as older versions of spigot did? Meaning.. Can I replace my 1.7.10 craftbukkit jar with this compiled 1.8 version, and have all the goods that were added (the stones, the bunnies etc) on my existing server? If so, good gravy, this post should be stickied and bolded in every forum category and spammed on the main news page!!

@Exit151 This won't be stickied, this won't be spammed.
That version is not an official version. It is a fork

Yes, it's a fully-functional 1.8 server. And you have a choice to run CraftBukkit 1.8 or Spigot 1.8.

@Bobcat00 But the CraftBukkit one isn't really Bukkit. Just putting that out there.

@Bobcat00 It indeed a fully functional 1.8 version.
@nverdier What's the different about Craftbukkit and Bukkit (I know that you can't run a server with Bukkit, and it doesn't including NMS).

But i believe that Bukkit is useless, because there is Craftbukkit, that have all features instead.

@Experminator Well with original Bukkit (i.e. 1.7.10 and before, without the DMCA), Bukkit is the API, and you can't run a server with it. CraftBukkit is the implementation of Bukkit, and it's what you run the server on. If you use You can use CraftBukkit as your library for a plugin, for NMS. I'm not 100% sure with 1.8 Bukkit/CraftBukkit, but I'm assuming that it's the same type of difference. I always use Bukkit in my build path (except when I use NMS etc) because it is the designated API.

@nverdier But you can use Craftbukkit? Why you use Bukkit instead Craftbukkit? (Bukkit has NMS including).

nverdier, I'm not sure what you're talking about, nor how it relates to Exit151's (hey, you from Jersey?) question. If you follow the Spigot build process, you end up with a fully functional CraftBukkit 1.8 server and a fully functional Spigot 1.8 server. You also end up with a full Bukkit API which can be used for plugin development.

@Bobcat00 Well it's not really Bukkit, and I'm not completely sure what it is.

@Bobcat00 Well there are some ambiguous methods in CraftBukkit that aren't so in Bukkit.

@Bobcat00 Rule one. Believe @nverdier always. He is always right.
    Rule two. See rule 3.
Rule three. Above rules must always be used.

If it walks like a duck and swims like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a duck.

@Bobcat00 I think what @nverdier means when he says it's not CB is that it's not official.

If it looks like a sheep, talks like a sheep, walks like a sheep, it might as well be a wolf in sheep's clothes. (is that even a saying in English?)

    Or a Wolvereness.
Probably not a saying in any language.

    More updated.
In my opinion, both Spigot and CB are low on my "better" list. They are both subject to the DMCA from Wolvereness. The reason why I am still using Bukkit is because it is still strong and I will admit that Spigot is helping to keep that strength. But once an equal or better alternative comes out, I'm going to say bye-bye.

    Updated
    verb
past tense: updated; past participle: updated
    /ˌəpˈdāt,ˈəpˌdāt/
    1. make (something) more modern or up to date.

    Better
    /ˈbedər/
    adjective
    1. comparative of good and well

Since when does updated == better?

@teej107 I completely agree with you. Bukkit is the way to go, IMO. I just hope it does eventually get out of the time of the DMCA. Spigot is keeping the strength for Minecraft servers. Not really Bukkit...
