Plugin Authors: How to hook into Permissions​

Permissions 2.x is being discontinued! 3.0 can be found HERE!!!


I am discontinuing Permissions 2.x and leaving the project. Permissions is not going away though! Since 2.6 I have been working closely with another developer and added them to the team. For the past several version they have not only been assisting with 2.x but also doing a lot of the development of much anticipated 3.x. rcjrrjcr will be taking over as lead developer of Permissions from 3.x forward. I have full faith in them and after working closely with them on the development on the last few version and the next major version I feel that I am leaving this project in more than capable hands. I put way to much work into this project to just leave it with anyone, and this is one of the few programs that I am incredibly proud of.

Many people will probably wonder why I am leaving again after taking over the project just a few months ago. I could quote drama and headaches, of which there were quite a few with this project. Unfortunately real life happens. Many people already know that I have been having medical issues here lately. Unfortunately while they have gotten better, they have not gone away. This coupled with other real life commitments, going to school full time, and starting up my own company, I am currently in the process of being laid off from work. At this point I have so much stuff going on in my life and am being pulled in so many directions that I am not able to get any work done on anything. This has lead to me missing commitments and letting people down on multiple things.

Permissions is also a very high maintenance plugin that requires a lot of attention and time. Right now I am not able to devote that time and do not feel it is fair for me to try to continue to be the lead developer on it. I had originally thought that adding other members to the team would be helpful, but unfortunately this just lead to frustration for them and myself as I just was not able to commit to the project enough. Hence, 3.0 has been rewritten almost exclusively by rcjrrjcr with minimal contributions by myself.

At this point I will be stepping away from the project to focus more on real life and to try to free up some time for other projects and to work with more individual like the wonderful HeroCraft Coding team to fulfill some commitments that I made to them a long time ago and sadly did not come through on. I feel that this is the best for all involved, both myself and the other Permissions developers, as well as the community who deserve someone who can contribute more time and attention to them and supporting them. I do not want to see Permissions end up like many other plugins with an absentee programmer and just slowly wasting away from a great plugin with a lot of potential to a headache with no support.

I will still be active in the community, just not as much as not in the same way. I'm sure my server will be more than happy to have their head admin back and active again as well.

Help! This must be something minor but it's driving me crazy. Using Minecraft Beta 1.5_02, CraftBukkit 706, EasyFlight 0.3, mcdCarpeteer 0.1, Towny 0.63, and Essentials 2.2.8, and the current Permissions 2.7.2. All loaded on a fresh server today.

Everything loads without error. Anyone can log in. However, with the exception of people in the groups containing '*' as commands, no one can type ANY command. You hit T and type /anything (any command at all, /help, /suicide, /help 1, etc. anything at all) and it says "You do not have access to that command." It does not matter WHAT command. But as soon as you put them back in the 'Zeus' group (which has '*') they can type anything again.

so, i have a server with permissions and worldguard i keep on protecting regions and even owners cant edit on them, only i can, can someone help?

 

Eek, I'm not quite sure where to start. Did a plugin create that file for you? I'm just going to go over the larger problems and once those are fixed, perhaps we can figure out the smaller ones.

• system: should always be default and not 'Guest'
• inheritance should just be 1 level above that group. IE - DemiGod inherits from Operator and Operator inherits from Moderator or however you want that set up.
• Your groups should start with Guest and end with Zeus
• You should give permissions to the actual permission node and not /town. IE - towny.admin, towny.town.* or towny.*

That should be a good start to getting a working file.

How are the owners set up in your permissions file? Do they have access to the region commands they will need for regions they own? Also, how did you set up the regions? Did you type "/region define <foo> <owner1> <owner2> ..."?

1 more question How do i upgrade to a newer build? Cb or whatever you wish to call it and is it worth it, lastly Ban doesnt work for my server i believe i have essentials any help on that

You can upgrade by shutting down the server if it is currently running. Use "stop" if it is. Then just copy whatever version you want to run to your server directory and restart the server.

If ban isn't working, I'm guessing you are running the 2.1 version of Essentials. If so, then just upgrade to the 2.2 version and everything should work as expected.

 

Jeyge, so I put ' ' around all my groups commands, I had my friend turned into one of the Admins, and it worked.. so the only problem is the lower ranks dont have access to their commands...
#2: when i type in /perm-add (player) (group), and theres a space in between my group, it keeps saying /perm-add (player) (group), and it doesnt change the player's group.. it could be that im trying to add the player to an admin slot which probably does not work, and you have to change it on your desktop,.. I'm multitasking right now so if im not clear, just reply lol

Im having troubles right now.
Im getting no errors but in game, its not showing peoples groups its been like this for a while now
What i mean is

its not showing the [Group]Name

This is exactly what I was talking about. The creation of that file means that it can't find the correct file. You could post screenshots of your directories to look at but the underlying problem is that the plugin can't find the <world>.yml file in the correct location.

Looks like the last few people who ran into this problem were running Java v1.5. Could this be your problem?

You need a chat plugin like iChat for those to show up and if you do have one, make sure you check the configuration file to see that it is still displaying "Group" before the users name.

I really dont know. Im quite sure becuase im on a mac so how would I attemp to update it? But what is funny is essentials runs with no problems...

The command "/perm-add" isn't part of Permissions so you would want to ask in the AssignPermissions thread about that.

 

Hey! Can you add a portal access option when the 1.6 update comes out? Something like portalaccess=true, which allows that group to use the Nether portal! Then anyone with portalaccess=false can't use them! I don't want beginners using my portal! THEY WILL DIE AND GET MAD IF THEY ARE A N00B >D

I just did another search for this error message and it looks like updating to Java v1.6 was the fix for most of them. All who received responses would probably be a better way of putting it. Are you sure your upgrade was for v1.6 and you removed your 1.5 version?

Edit: BTW - the reason that some plugins are still working is based on which version of Java they were compiled with so I would guess that Essentials was compiled with 1.5 and Permissions with 1.6. That was what I read at least.

You have extensions turned off which tells me that your Survive.yml is actually Survive.yml.<something>. Change the file to just Survive.yml and you should be golden.

The file's full name is Survive.yml.yml and the reason for that is I tried Survive.yml but then the Permissions mod didn't even load.
