It is in compliance with Notch's EULA, the bins are from my own personal computer.

Doesn't the bin folder contain things Notch/Mojang has made?

Works, Nortan detected it as a virus, I simply added it to the skip list until I figure out how to make it not detect it as a virus.

Exactly, this is is either illegal, or useless if you already updated because you can't use it to roll back to a version already installed....

Yes it does, but notice my disclaimer:
And according to the law of the country I live in:
Basically, this means after I payed for the game (which I did) I may freely modify/redistribute it as long as I am gaining no profit and promoting the game. Which, I am.

See my post above, and what do you mean it's useless?

What? I just used this to rollback to 1.4_01 from 1.5 and it worked perfectly.

Thank you so much for such a convenient and simple program. This is very useful program, highly appreciated.

-Just to state, regardless of legal matters or such, using this program doesn't allow the ability to freely download the game, nor supply it. It merely patches the already existing files, to downgrade / upgrade it.

Even if you don't feel this is safe (which he as fully included the source), respect him. There's no need to share if you don't need it. Instead, maybe share ideas... improvements.. fix this.. fix that.. etc. Programming is quite challenging at times. If you've worked on a project / program for several hours / days, then have someone completely say its sh~ is extremely annoying, and just causes unneeded stress.

I mean.. I feel the same way for the Bukkit team. They provide us with something amazing, and yet people complain if there are issues, or downtime. They do it out of kindness towards the community, with nothing in return. Honestly, nothing is stopping them from not developing Bukkit anymore. What would you do then? Be thankful.

    -ends rant- [cake]

  13. The law you are referencing has to do with security flaws, and this is not obviously for personal use if you are distributing it.

Anyways, I think we should respect Notch's wishes on keeping the files in one centralized location.

I won't argue this any more, since fair-use law is so complicated, but I'd say just ask Mojang for permission if in doubt.

Mm, while the reply is pending from him, I'll side with the law in my country.

I'd just like to say that A) I scanned it with Norton and got nothing, plus it worked, and B) What's the difference between keeping your own backups and doing it manually(or just hitting the don't update button)? Did you pay for the game BEFORE the 1.5 update? If so then I don't see how this keeps you from doing anything you couldn't do on your own. However, Notch has asked that we not distribute his stuff. So, I agree that it should default to his wishes, I just don't see how this hurts anything. Its not like he's giving us free versions of the game. Although, you maybe ought to implement a check of some sort on whether its a legal copy(if this is possible/not already there?).

    A) Obvi :p.
    B) Glad it did for you :).
    C) I bought minecraft back in early Alpha.
    D) Be more specific by a "check".

I mentioned the scan just because I thought it was funny after the previous Norton problem. That was more a support post for you than a complaint, so I meant for whomever was using the program having bought it and thus having legal access to the older files. By check I mean some way of verifying that the minecraft.jar being patched is an official jar and not a cracked version or whatever.

Mm, seems easy enough; I could require the user to authenticate themselves by logging into minecraft.net for the tool to run, but then everyone will immediately think it's a phisher.

Yeah, I don't know if it's possible without that or not. It was just an idea.

ok so question here. To start i am currently playing a cracked version of Minecraft 1.4_01 but i plan on buying it next weekend. I wasnt intially sure how much i would enjoy the game and it is fantastic by far. Anyway i have an issue it seems to roll forward to 1.5 fine but when i choose the roll back to 1.4_01 it reverts to 1.4 isntead...... and the game crashes at that point so any insight? I did back up everything so all i had to do was copy paste but still it would be nice to know if i am doing it wrong or is something else an issues (ie the fact that i am playing a cracked version or something)

edit: in the gui when i select 1.4_01 the text right above the update/extract buttons it says 1.4 not _01

keep the source public, and tell people to compile it themselves if they are worried.

This is awesome, thanks for releasing. [diamond]
Only bad thing about it is that it doesnt contain 1.4_01, which is the version I want.

    Oopsies. Small glitch, fixing momentarily.

Updated, now you can u/g and d/g to 1.4_01 properly.

    No.
Same problem as Jemmes27NYC, but for every version.

EDIT: It works if you extract it.

Just curious as to what this is shown below, not saying you are trying to send out a virus or whatever and i dont claim to be a programming expert although i do know that some harmless things will set off some scanners.

Talking about the one in red.

  30. What is this obsessed thing with virusses ? I mean cmon I own a cybercafe.. 13 pc's, all used for internet and gaming (wow, cod, mc, bf, cs etc) and don't use a virus scanner on any of my pc's for the last 7 years now ....

I mean, why would he add a virus to a program to switch your client version ? .... its just being paranoid and while this isn't made by me not do I use it, i just find it irritating people are so internetphobic...
