I am paying $70 for Dual Xeon5420's and 16gb of ram, I am running my Factions PvP server with 10gb of ram. All was fine until I decided to upgrade to the newest factions + MCore (Went from 1.6 to 2.2) and I am getting a ton of CPU spikes.

Should I expect this from what I am paying? What processor should I get if I was to upgrade?

I would highly suggest upgrading to an E3 as mgsolidus suggested.

    E3-1230v2

    E3-1230v2
    32GB RAM
    2x 250GB HDD

    $89.00
    is this a good deal?

Pretty low disk space for the price, but the cpu is great and ram is plentiful. If you can't find SSD's or high rpm drives, it'll do just fine.

What do SSD's really do for a minecraft server? I never understood. I could probably upgrade HDD space for a bit more.

Put simply, they generate chunks faster. Much faster.

Here's a video. It's old, but still applies.

Now imagine 100 people on a server exploring new terrain being generated on a HDD. It won't keep up.
I can even set my fly speed to 4 and beat the terrain generation, I end up in nothingness.

Oh okay, so what would you recommend with that Price, HDD/SDD-wise

Can you give me a max budget and location where the server should be? I'll find something.

I would like to spend max $100, and somewhere in the US, not too picky since I live in the center of the US.
