Is there an estimate on when its gonna update to 1.6 and are plugins going to break during this update?

Not to derail the thread, but I will anyway: Why does 1.6 require a new launcher? My FPS goes from 90 to 12 with the new launcher. It's bad enough that I'll have to quit playing Minecraft, or just never upgrade from 1.5.2

Or making a bug report to Mojang...
Problems won't fix if you don't report them.

    @OP:
I would say as with every MC Update:
Dev builds after a few days. beta after a few weeks and recommended hopefully before 1.7. :p
Also the same plugins as always will break: the ones which doen't rely completly on the Bukkit API.

New blocks, new mobs... it's going to take a long time.

Based on the dozen or so bug reports already submitted and closed en-mass, Mojang is not interested in fixing it.

I think bukkit checks if there's any major bug before coding. Because if there is a major bug it means there will be a patch, leading to doing update code all over again. I haven't played the prerelease yet so I couldn't say if theres any major issue. There has been a lot of weekly builds from mojang so I think if there was a big bug they'd have found it by now.

In any case, if I was bukkit and I was working on the update, I wouldn't tell anyone. Because then they would ask when it'll be ready. It'll be ready when it's ready. Bukkit does this for free, so let them do it at their own pace.

Yes you might have a smaller playerbase while waiting for the update, but it might be better than having a server that explodes everywhere because it's been rushed.

This may be because they close duplicated bugs...

    When it's out, it's out. It's out when it's ready. It's ready when it's done. :)

Launcher shouldn't affect framerate in any way. The other changes to graphics handling in the client, on the other hand, could easily change your FPS. Try changing your settings, and failing that report it to Mojang. Nothing we can do here on the Bukkit site.

I've always hated the "It'll be ready when it's ready" sort of answers.

It's not like we don't know they're working on it, an estimation would always be nice so server owners have SOMETHING to tell their players...I realize they're doing this for free but c'mon...no communication regarding progress at all?

Not to mention you'd think with how popular bukkit is and how so much relies on it when it comes to multiplayer that Mojang and the Bukkit team would be a bit more closer when it comes to this sort of thing. Ah well...here's to hoping a decent build is released in a timely manner. Again I appreciate what they're doing but god damn do I hate waiting weeks for a decent build to be released, lol

Well, if they told us a estimate, and they would not hold it then a lot of people would rage. By not saying when, is a easier way to do it. Also its hard for them to tell a estimate, cause they do not know them selfs most of the time i would guess. Yes, that also has to do with the people working on it is doing it for free.

That means, they might get half the team busy with irl stuff and cant update in the estimated time they put.

This means that they would let down the community. So rather letting us down, they tell us that its done when its done because thats the fact of it being done when its done :)

Or you could use a modified bukkit version to enable players connect with 1.6.1 clients but no new features. There is also other "bukkit types" out there that seem to update faster than bukkit everynow and then. You can always use them if you are not a true follower :)

I estimate that Bukkit will be updated in exactly 5 days, 7 hours, 23 minutes, and 37 seconds.

Or they could just give an estimate and a disclaimer saying it's subject to change. Just so we have some sort of idea. If something pops up in real life and they can't do it? Just a little update saying, "Something came up, it'll be postponed for <time>"

I wouldn't say I'm a "follower" or anything. I use it cause it works. That's all.

yeah, unfortunately most people will ignore disclaimer.

I thought I found a 1.5 snapshot, but it was some hack, and I got banned. Yes, it is 1.5 all over again. xD

See, thing is, long ago and far away, they used to say stuff like 'we think it will be ready in a week or so' or 'we think it will be ready soon' and when soon turned to soon (tm) , people raised a mighty s**tstorm about not being able to stick to deadlines when no firm deadline was actually set.

Crap happens when coding and sometimes big bugs rear their ugly heads late into development and need to be squashed before it can be released. This adds on time until official release. If you absolutely CANNOT wait for a beta or recommended build, you're more than welcome to use the devbuilds to scratch your itch. Just know that: 1. no support for dev builds is EVER given and plugins don't update for dev builds and 2. if you don't already know where to go for dev builds, you have no business using them. Backup your server first.
