    First off, relax.

If you're using the new Minecraft launcher, you have a choice on whether or not you want to update to the latest Minecraft release - simply choose "Not now" when it asks if you want to update and you can continue to play on your pre-update Minecraft server.

If you're not using the new Minecraft launcher, backup your old launcher and update it by downloading it from http://minecraft.net, then follow the steps above.

It usually takes us a few hours AT LEAST to get Bukkit working with the latest Minecraft update, so you're better off playing a different game or staying on the previous version of Minecraft, instead. If you have a special server that requires lots of mods, like a class-based server, consider backing up your world, running the new Minecraft update and calling it a grief/fun/fool-around period OR stay on your current version and just keep playing.

Just remember, always backup so you can switch between versions. You're no longer forced to go weeks without a Bukkit powered server.

Once we have a new Bukkit build that is compatible with the newest Minecraft update, we'll put it under rigorous testing and then promote it as a Recommended Build. Usually, due to the way Bukkit and CraftBukkit are designed, plugins should work just fine but there's no guarantee that this is always the case so be sure to test everything on a test server before you go live.

Lastly, we're fully aware that a new update is out - usually before anyone else. Don't spam the forums with threads or IRC with messages informing us that there's a new Minecraft update out. We know. And we're working on updating Bukkit to work with it. The more you bother us, the longer it'll take.

    Have fun!

I salute the Bukkit developersand those who have contributed to the project for their hard work and dedication. Bukkit is the second best thing that has happened to me next to minecraft!

What is the easiest way to know exactly when a 1.4 recommended build is actually released?

LOL, lucky me, since I've been watching the news I knew it would come soon. We posted a similar message on our server website yesterday. I just hope my users read up on the news regularly...

I don't quite follow this as you are mixing Client information into a Server issue. The above information would be aimed our users, correct? I can see via the console that a lot of my users are unable to login due to "outdated server". Are you saying that they could login if they just rolled back their clients?

Just checking... as I'm new to MC hosting. Thanks.

Yep, if they went back to version 1.3_1 they will be able to login, no problem!

I wish Notch and Mojong and Co. didn't treat the users like they are in Beta. Sure the code is, but not the thousands of players who participate in multiplayer. And the ecosystem of software is not anything limited to Beta software. Upgrade break other pieces of software.

Why couldn't they give all you developers (who do so much thank you :) !! ) time to get things ready for the update. Like, release 1.4 but do it BEFORE you shove the 1.4 client updates down the end-users throats. Luckily mine didn't auto update.

There is nothing Beta about that, just a poor choice IMHO. When you have millions of downloads and thousands of people online you need to give early access for people to test before you push automatic updates. (We need a beta of the beta almost </joke>)

I hate to bug but I am curious if you have any idea when you guys will have it updated? You guys are amazing for working on it right away!
I totally agree!! You guys should be able to update first then have all users get the update.

With the new client, you aren't forced to use automatic updates. ;) Many a people are playing 1.3_1 online still thanks to the nifty "not right now" button.

So true (I didn't click), but many people aren't playing, because that have been institutionalized to always upgrade when available. Think outside of minecraft - everyone is conditioned to security updates. Windows/Mac/Linux etc says there is an update? Your virus protection wants you to upgrade the latest version or latest database?

I would never expect my end-users to decline an update. It goes against what they have been trained to do.
