so, i have posted several topics about this but i port forwarded my bukkit server at my dads and i when i go to my moms (parents divorced) i can't port forward because "port is in use" i was wondering how dedicated servers run like i heard you can just buy some hosting network and your server will be up like almost 24/7 and i was thinking if i would be able to play on my server at both my moms and dads house. i understand i will have to pay if this is possible i am also wondering the prices and if i can do this procedure what is the best hosting network? thank you for your time please respond i really need help!

Port is in use is most likely caused by you not using stop to close your server.

Just use a different port, like 25580.

He may want to solve the problem instead of changing port every few minutes.

no I'm not getting the starting command error, when i port forward it on my net gear ip it says that

i have already tried changing my port in my server.properties and port forwarding it with the new port and it won't work, will my idea work with just getting a net working hosting thingy?

Do you have a static ip?

So your trying to run the server at your dad's house as well as your mums?
In that case , the houses have different Internal Ip's (The one you get from typing 'ipconfig' IPv4) you need to static those ip's which you can use software like SimpleStaticIp. Then portforward the port : 25565 on the Internal Ip. In your server.properties file , You can either leave server-ip= *Blank* (This will let Bukkit automatically connect to the port :25565 on your Internal Ip) or you can just fill the server-ip= *Internal Ip* Both ways work.

Now its time to check if your ports are forwarded correctly using your EXTERNAL ip
Where to find it? google whatsmyip or http://whatsmyip.org/ or http://portforward.com/
    Port checking websites
Most bukkit members like to use http://canyouseeme.org/
but me myself i like to use http://www.ipfingerprints.com/portscan.php

Once that is done , If your Server has the error " [WARNING] **** FAILED TO BIND TO PORT! "

This is usually because either you have opened 2 servers at the same time or the task on your previous server has not been killed. If you notice one is open close it. If not open task manager(Ctrl+Alt+Del) go to the process tab and look for any processes called java.exe or javaw.exe and end them.
