    News

    v2.4.2 Released - 9/24/2011
See the change log for details.
Everyone using PermissionsEx, Essentials, or anything else besides the regular permissions plugin or PermissionsBukkit should add or change this in their config under the Global section:
    LegacyPermissions: true
As of 2.4.0 the bPermissions plugin is supported directly.
As of 2.3.7 the PermissionsBukkit plugin is supported directly.
This support is not done through the new built in Permissions that bukkit provides, because there is no way to get a players group using the built in methods. However, by supporting this directly, you can now use the new permissions system while still keeping Residence, and not having to use old permissions at all anymore.

    Residence Signs (by KarnEdge)

NOTE: All Residence usage information has been moved to the wiki!

    About:
Residence is different from most protection plugins in that it aims for the users to be able to protect their own homes without having to bother the admin to do it. Residence has support for a variety of different protection types including preventing movement through areas, all of which can be configured by the land owner, and limited by the admin.
    Features:
    Features (open)

    • Allows players to define protected areas for themselves.
    • Individual permissions for each protected area. Land owner can give / deny permissions globally or to other specific players.
    • Different permissions per land include: move, build, use, pvp, fire, teleport, monsters spawn, damage prevention
    • Support for group permissions on protections.
    • Multi-World support.
    • Teleport system to allow users to teleport to residences.
    • Collision detection system to prevent residences from overlapping.
    • Limits to protected size can be set up by the admin.
    • Limits to number of protected areas per player can be set.
    • Two ways to select land including using the select command, or using a item to select 2 points.
    • Messages when you enter / leave a residence. (customizable)
    • Land "leasing" system which requires users to renew the lease on their protection every X number of days or loose the protection. (off by default, see config file)
    • Recursive Sub-zoning. Create zones within zones, and then zones within those zones...
    • TONS of configuration for admins. Customize every single flag that players can or cannot use in the config file, based on their permissions group.
    • (Optional) IConomy support, can set up cost per X number of blocks protected.
    • (Optional) Permissions support.
    • In-game help / commands descriptions

    • Fixed global "container" flag bug.

    • BOSEconomy support.

    • /res check [residence] [flag] <player> command, this command evaluates if <player> is affected by [flag] at [residence]. You can leave off <player> and it will use your name.
    • Added a LeaseAutoRenew config option, that will cause leases to automatically renew so long as the player has the money to do so. Note that, if economy is disabled this doesn't work, as there would be no point to leases. Needs Testing! :)
    • Global FlagPermission config section, that allows you to give permission to use a flag to all groups, useful for the build / move / use flag that you almost definitely want everyone to have access to. Flags under each individual group will overrule these.
    • You can now set a limits on how deep or how high protections can go into the group, using each groups MinHeight and MaxHeight settings.
    • /res select sky, and /res select bedrock commands, these auto adjust to the above mentioned MinHeight and MaxHeight settings, so it won't select into a area you can't protect.

Ok everythings working great now. Thanks! My other question was... ever since I started running this my users (well one of them, who I think has client side issues but he swears up and down its server side) is complaining of lag. I am also running essentials protection for some basic features like block blacklisting, warnings on block placeage, fire/lava/creeper protect etc. It makes sense that these two mods would conflict with one another, so is it possible that Residence could take over some of this basic functionality from Essentials Protect so I can dump that mod? The new Essentials is modular so I could easily drop that component in favor of a more verbose Residence.

    Thanks!

Another "bug" I've found. When leaving a subzone you always get the parent zone welcome message. IE, my ginormous castle, whenever I exit a shop or home it keeps spamming "Welcome to Castle Adminius" lol...

Yea, im still looking into this. Im really having trouble replicating the bug though, which is the main reason why I can't fix it. Ive even tried making similar setups to what you have been describing, but I just can't get it to not work lol. I did find a bug in the subzone command that I fixed in this last version, but im not sure if its related to your issue or not.

Theres a couple things you can do now that v1.1.7 came out, you can either create the land yourself and then put it up for sale, or you can use /resadmin setowner [residence] [player] Do note, that right now setowner doesn't change any flags, only the owner. Im working on a /resadmin defaultflags type of command that will reset the flags to the owners default. so that you can give a residence and set default permissions for the player on it.

Admins can do anything in any zone, they completely ignore flags. Is this what you were asking? Not quite sure i understand.

    Awesome :) thanks for that.

Are you sure your running the latest version? I added a debug message that will output to the console when you get that error, its added directly after that error and there is no way it should be possible for it not to throw the error to the console now..... Also, I fixed a bug in v1.1.8 that MAY have been related to this, depending on if you were standing in the area you were sub-zoning or not.

Yea, il eventually get around to that, should be simple when I actually get around to doing it. :)

Its a cube from the point your standing at, i should have made that more clear heh. Il see about changing the documentation to specifically say cube.

It could be some sort of conflict, block blacklisting is something I can do, and most likely eventually will do, but its probably a while of before I get it done just due to so much else going on :)

Yea, I actually made it that way on purpose, but I guess it really doesn't make sense after all lol. I guess il change that when i can.

  4. Hi, I'm having a problem with the mod, I'm trying to allow players to create regions in which only them can build using only the default group. It doesn't seem to work, what config should i use to achieve that ?

Ok, so you only want the default users to be able to create regions where only they can build, and you dont want them to be able to allow anyone else to build in their area as well? First off remember to test this while you do NOT have admin access, since admins have full access regardless. Set up the config as follows:

    1. For the default group under "flagaccess:" set "build: false"
This will prevent the land owner from changing the build flag on their residence.

    2. Under the "defaultflags:" set "build: false"
This will deny build access by default on residence creation.

    3. Under "groupflagaccess:" set "build: false"
This will prevent them giving build access to groups.

    4. Under "playerflagaccess:" set "build: false"
This will prevent them from giving build access to individual other players.

    5. Finally, under "creatordefaultflags:" make sure they have "build: true"
So that they (as the creator) can build.

See if that does it for you and let me know if it doesn't, as there could be a bug. But like I said, test it without admin.

  6. Still doesn't work, here's my conf file if it is of any help :

    Code:
#this is the item id of the item you want players to be able to use to select areas
    selectionItemId: 271

#this is a lag prevention setting, setting it to higher will mean less cpu usage but less precise player movement tracking.
#less precice movement tracking, means that a player may be able to spend a little time in a area he shouldn't
#have access to before he gets booted out. this setting is in milliseconds. default is 500 (half a second) which
#is a good balance between lag and safety.

    autoSaveInterval: 10

#this is ONLY for if your either not using permissions, or you are using permissions and
#a player is in a group that does not exist in the below groups configuration. in either case,

Hmm, all looks right in the config, in what way is it not working. Is the player still allowed to change the flag? or is it that other players are able to build in the area? When your testing this without admin, and you type /res limits, what group does it say your in? And what flag access does it list for you?

  8. Players are still alowed to build. It says I'm in the default group but wierd thing, it doesn't list any flag for me.

And your 100% sure you don't have the "residence.admin" privilege... type /resadmin ? and if it lists commands then you still have it somehow. Only other thing i can think of is that its some conflict with another plugin. What plugins are you using? It only lists flags you have access to also. EDIT: oh, and what CB Version are you using?

  10. Note : tnt protection does work.

And the admin test is negative.
I'm using McMyAdmin with the latest CraftBukkit I dl'd it today.

Hmm, maybe its broken with the latest craftbukkit, try CB 556 and see if it works, il go do my own tests with the latest version and see if its broken for me too, and il see what i need to do to fix it.

Ok, holy crap, i just tried CB 575 and it exploded with all sorts of error messages on the console from alot of different plugins. And yea, build protection is broken on CB 575.

You can find it on the "ci.bukkit.org" craftbukkit download page to the left under the "build history" section, or heres a direct link:
    http://ci.bukkit.org/job/dev-CraftBukkit/556/

  14. Still doesn't work with the build you gave me :(. Also, I never get a message when I enter a zone, only when I leave it, I don't know if it's normal or not.

Hmm, i noticed the messages weren't working either under CB 575, are you sure you are using 556 now? type /version and see.

  16. Here's what I got : git-bukkit-0.0.0-544-g6c6c30a-b556jnks (MC 1.3)

Thanks for making a great and decent area protection system! Now to get on to business and mark all the areas on my server.
I actually like that the parrent entry message pops up. Maybe make it a toggleable option in the configuration?

Ok, looks like your using the right version now at least :) do a /res info on the area your trying to protect and verify all the flags are there that you want, you should see a -build on Flags, and a +build on Your flags since your the creator. Since your the creator, you will be able to build. If you want to test the deny flags, get a friend to log in or something and see if he can build. Or temporarily give yourself admin, and remove the +build flag for yourself and then remove admin again and test it.

Ok, I can do that :)

  19. I tested removing the build flag for myself but to no effect, and I still don't get an enter message like before :(. If you want I can grant you access to my server so you can check for yourself ^^.

Or maybe could you put on dropbox a folder containing craftbukkit + plugin folder with Residence that works for you?

Aye thats it, and heres a dropbox for my tiny working test server.
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13748975/Residence/test/cbtest.zip

This includes the fix i just made, which i have not posted to the origional post yet.

The config in this test is setup to deny everyone by default, including the owner.

  23. Thanks a lot it seems to be working now :D, I'll see if I have something left on my paypal to donate ^

Awesome! glad it works, il be posting the new fix to the main post shortly.
And thanks, all donations are GREATLY appreciated :D

You can probbably do this with the CommandSigns plugin. Somone earlier in the thread had a sign that you right clicked and it would create a zone for you. :)

I have all the bugs i mentioned working now, it was user error haha. The issue I was getting trying to make the subzone was because... I was putting their names in the wrong order. Off the top of my head I think it was something like /res subzone zonename subzonename whereas it should be /res subzone subzonename zonename. Or vice versa lol, either way once I changed the order of the naming it worked flawlessly. If you can change, or put an option in the config to change the playing of enter messages when leaving subzones I would be ecstatic :)

Also, not sure but is there a good mod to use with this mod that will allow essentials.protect / worldguard features such as fire/lava protect, creeper explosion protect etc? I'm currently using this mod alongside essentials.protect and it "seems" to be working (may not be an issue afterall) but I havn't had any players to really help me test today. I would think that two protection mods would conflict with one another.

Anyways keep up the awesome work! This mod is so simple I love it :)

Aha! problem solved :D Glad you got it working. Also, creeper explosions fall under the +explosions flag so you should be able to protect against them throughout the whole world by disabling the explosions flag under the worldsettings section towards the top of the config. Dunno of any good lava protect methods though....

This is so sad, I am still having the same issue, it saves but if I reload or restart the server I still get the list that all of the things are still there, but the zones are no longer there... Has anyone here used this in tandem with MultiVerse? That is what I have come do to that is causing the problem.

What CB version are you using just curious? Im running it with multiverse and it works fine as far as i can tell.

    craftbukkit-0.0.1-SNAPSHOT...
If this is the issue I think I may just go get a gallon of ice cream and drown my sorrows whilst watching "The Titanic"...

Thats not the actual craftbukkit build number, only way you can find out which version your truly using is /version. Heres the link to CraftBukkit build 556 which is the supported version:
    http://ci.bukkit.org/job/dev-CraftBukkit/556/

Try that and see if it helps :)
