Old description (open)
If you enjoy fighting monsters for glorious prizes or just the sheer thrill of battle, you and your friends can now join forces against hordes of Minecraft evils in the exciting gladiator-style survival mini-game MobArena!

Heavily inspired by Deminetix' Fight-plugin, MobArena is a PvE-take on arena-gameplay, with a similar class-based system. Instead of fighting other players, you team up with them to beat oncoming waves of monsters, earning rewards in the process. MobArena can be played alone, or with as many friends as you like!

Features:
• Fight oncoming waves of monsters
• Play alone or team up with friends
• Earn glorious prizes
• Customizable classes, rewards and waves
• Easy to set up
• Extremely easy to use
• Very few user commands
• Supports Permissions and all major economies
• Supports Spout
• Supports Heroes
Note: When you post a bug report, please provide a stacktrace/error from the server log/console window. Post this stacktrace in either a pastebin, a pastie, or a CODE-block! The same applies for config-files, permissions-files, etc! Please don't put them directly in your posts, as they become gigantic and annoying to read. If you don't follow this guideline, I might ignore your post!

Wiki - Instructions, commands, FAQ, etc.
I have set up a Wiki for MobArena. It contains a bunch of information and guides on how to set up and customize arenas, an overview of all the commands, how to set up Permissions, as well as frequently asked questions.

New: MobArena now has its own IRC channel (#mobarena @ EsperNet). Click here for a web-based IRC client. Feel free to stop by to get help setting everything up if you really don't understand the Wiki and the instructional video, or to have a chat about MobArena (or anything else, for that matter) :)

Troubleshooting:
To avoid wasting not only your own time, but mine as well, I expect everyone to do some extensive troubleshooting before posting bug reports. What does this mean?

Try MobArena on a fresh server.
MobArena works perfectly fine when I release it. Sure, there are a few bugs, but it works. If it doesn't work for you, something is most likely wrong on your end. Set up a local test-server, and verify that MobArena works before claiming that it doesn't. When you have verified that MobArena does indeed work, you can start adding other plugins and settings until something conflicts.

Disable other plugins.
The first thing you need to do is disable all other plugins. If you can't reproduce the bug with other plugins disabled, you know that you have a conflicting plugin. Now perform a binary search on the other plugins, or if you don't know how to do that, just add a couple of plugins back to the plugins-folder, try to reproduce the bug, and if you can't, the conflicting plugin must be in the remaining set of plugins.

Write down reproduction steps.
Figure out the exact steps to reproduce/trigger the bug. I need precise steps, and as much information as possible, because there are often many things that could be going on. An example of reproduction steps could be:
1. Type /ma join
2. Punch the Archer class sign
3. Wait for someone else to join
4. Punch the iron block
5. Type /ma leave before the other player picks a class

Check the console window/server.log
Make sure you check the server.log file for any MobArena errors or exceptions. If you find any, copy the ENTIRE exception (including all the lines that say "at com.garbagemule.MobArena...") and paste it (with the other information) in a CODE-tag here in the thread.

Donations:
I develop MobArena for the fun of it and the positive feedback is all it takes to make me happy, but a few people have asked for a link, so if you're one of them, here's a link: Donate - You can donate as much as you want, even down to a few cents! If I get enough donations, I will spend the money on an extra Minecraft account to aid me in developing/testing/debugging MobArena :)

Changelog:

Version 0.94.3.24
• Updated for CB 1337.
• The repair-delay node is now unused! The reason for this is that it is now possible (with the release of 1317) to cancel block damage in explosions, and still retain the animation and sound! This also means that arenas should be fully pistons-compatible (for arenas that don't use soft-restore or force-restore)! I'm hoping to see some screenshots and videos of shifting arenas! :)
• You can now right-click signs in the lobby! I finally found a super easy solution to the improperly updating inventory issue with right-clicking class signs. The result is that players can now left- or right-click as they please. This should solve all issues related to players not being able to choose classes, due to spawn region and WorldGuard/Factions/whatever conflicts.
• It is no longer possible to warp out of the lobby.
• New per-arena setting: final-wave - Allows for setting a final wave, meaning on that wave, the arena will end, regardless of how many players are alive.
Version 0.94.3.11 (open)

• v0.94.3.11 - Updated Register, built against CB 1240.
• v0.94.3.8 - Added basic leaderboards.
• v0.94.3.6 - Fixed MagicSpells support - MobArena no longer supports MagicSpells pre-v1.1!
• v0.94.3.5 - Fixed a bunch of bugs introduced with CB 1185, as well as a couple of minor MobArena bugs.
• Updated for CraftBukkit #1185
• Updated economy support (now supports iConomy 6).
• Added the three new mob types, Enderman/Endermen, CaveSpider/CaveSpiders, Silverfish. They can be used just like the other mob types in the waves.
• Endermen cannot pick up arena blocks (this is why).
• Endermen cannot place blocks in arena regions.
• The per-class permission syntax has been fixed and changed slightly. The Wiki has been updated (clicky).
• Fixed MagicSpells issues.
Version 0.94.2 (open)

• Redstone circuits now work properly in arenas.
• Lightning now properly strikes on spawnpoints on special waves.
• Fixed an issue where players somehow warping/cheating out of the arena world get kicked from the server when discovered.
• Added MagicSpells support. Use the magicspells.yml file to ban certain spells from the arena either for the whole session, or only during boss waves.
• Fixed the Heroes death conflict. MobArena and Heroes should now play nice together. Further Heroes support is planned for upcoming releases.
• MobArena will no longer support the discontinued Permissions 2.x and 3.x permission systems. Recommended permissions systems include PermissionsBukkit (defacto standard) or PermissionsEX.
Version 0.94.1 (open)

• Added two new boss abilities: 'shuffle-positions' and 'flood'. Try them out!
• Players disconnecting/crashing during an arena session no longer get corrupted data files due to economy rewards.
• Weapon durability is now correctly set to "unlimited".
• Item sub-types (cocoa beans, bonemeal, colored wool, etc.) now work again.
• Players can no longer join the arena without first picking a class.
• MobArena now works with spawn-monsters=false again.
Version 0.94 (open)

• Completely revamped the waves system! Undeniably the biggest feature in MobArena since multiple arenas in v0.92, the new customizable waves are guaranteed to bring much more awesomeness to your MobArenas. The waves system brings two new wave types, swarm waves and boss waves. The latter is a very elaborate feature, and the whole waves system has been given its own page on the Wiki. Note: MobArena will ignore all old wave settings, but use sane defaults.
• Revamped the logging system. Instead of logging: true, you can now use logging: yml/xml. The logging system will now keep track of the last session only, but also maintain a collection of 'totals' for each arena. The idea behind these easy-to-parse files is making the stats available on server web pages.
• Added SuperPerms/PermissionsBukkit support. Note that specifying mobarena.arenas.* and mobarena.classes.* probably won't work, but these nodes are given to everyone by default.
• Added Spout support. Currently, the only Spouty thing MobArena does is print (some) announcements as notifications/achievements. This should limit the amount of "chat spam" that MobArena produces. Other Spout-features are planned, but don't expect something crazy. Note that MobArena does NOT require Spout!
• Monsters will no longer target pet wolves. This is a major nerf to pet classes, but they were very overpowered as it was.
• Fixed item amounts greater than 64 sometimes bugging out. You should now be able to put arrow:1024 for your Archer classes :)
• Fixed players losing their stored items and/or earned rewards upon disconnecting from the arena.
• Fixed blocks not restoring when burned by fire.
• Fixed an issue with entry fees. They should no longer cause any problems.
• Fixed slimes. That's right! Slimes that spawn as a result of bigger slimes splitting upon death are now considered arena monsters. This also means that Slimes no longer drop slime balls; as intended.
• Revamped the repairing algorithm. It is now MUCH more sophisticated, and is capable of repairing not only signs and containers, but also torches, doors and beds. Redstone -should- repair properly as well, but it is still slightly buggy.
• Added support for restorable containers. Registered chests, dispensers, and furnaces will have their contents stored upon arena start, and restored at arena end. This is useful for providing the arena players with chests with e.g. upgrades or food.
• Added new commands (for the feature above) - /ma addcontainer <name>, /ma delcontainer <name>, /ma containers. These commands work much like the the spawnpoint commands. To add a container, simply look at the container and type /ma addcontainer <name>.

Do you know whether it is possible to prevent people from doing /back to get back into the arena after death? I know that is an essentials command, but I thought I would ask here as well.

I was also interested in whether you would possibly make constructed golems able to deal damage in the future? I was considering having one of my classes start with 1 pumpkin head, and gets another every certain number of rounds, to use on set iron T's in the arena. It works well, and looks cool, but the golems just kinda flail around uselessly.

Few weeks ago i asked if their is anyway to make an iron golem ally,
You guys told me yes, i had to put the right materials into a class.

When an irongolem gets summond he isnt able to damage the monsters.

Am i doing something wrong ?

I just want to confirm that I am having leaderboard wall issues as well. I think mine showed up somewhere back on 1.4.5 or maybe earlier. They used to work fine, but suddenly stopped updating. Glad to see the update!

I don't think you're doing something wrong, but a mob that is spawned outside of MobArena will probably not be considered part of the arena (and thus not an actual MobArena pet), and thus all damage done to and by these golems will be cancelled. All I can say for now is that it'll most likely be possible in a later version.

Someone on IRC mentioned something about "holding areas" to prevent the /back command, but I'm not quite sure exactly what this someone actually did to make it happen. If you disallow teleportation in the arena config, it shouldn't be possible to warp back at all, though.

Thanks for the info. They are able to /back in, but short of stealing the xp that drops due to otherdrops settings, they can't drop items or attack mobs.

I know otherdrops has a flag setting to designate drops that can drop in a mobarena, I'll have to see if it can designate drops that cannot.

Any way to add dyed armor? I'm making a class that would look very nice with some black leather armor.

Unless dyed armor uses the same metadata approach as wool and dyes, probably not (yet).

Enable "monster-infight" for the specific arena.

Any update on this now? I have found out so far that the for-loop in line 92 file Leaderboard.java doesn't run, although the function is executed. If you find a fix, let me know..

Wool uses damage values, and I would think those are used for something else with armour :p

No update yet, sorry. I've got a couple of hours right now, though, so I'll try to figure it out. Thanks for looking through the code, and sorry about it being so ugly ;) I'll tag you when I figure something out :)

Unless something drastic changed since last time I was messing around with wool and dye (admittedly, months ago), they use the metadata component (a byte or MaterialData) just like the door, sign, and step blocks. If that's what you mean by damage values, then we agree, and if that's what the armors use, then dyed armor should be supported already (I think). If you mean durability, either something changed with wool and dye (and thus they are not supported by MobArena anymore), or you might have misunderstood how it works.

The new build, v0.94.4.91, fixes leaderboards, and adds a couple new features.

Thank you sir! Amazing turn around on that one! Feind... very nice assist. Wish I had been able to assist that way. Sadly my begginer's c++ skills do not do me much good on the rare occasion i piddle through some java source :)

Also, Did test, albeit not thoroughly, but initial tests with 2 seperate arenas, with 1 player and then 3 players in each, yields positive results :) thanks again

Thank you both

Aw thank you, I guess this is the fix needed? (edit: yes it is!) I'm running a custom fork (aka a lot of stuff like Mob Equipments, colored armor etc hacked together in a crappy way) and can't just update.

Maybe one day my coding skills (you made me learn java!) will be on a level where I can contribute to your great work without feeling embarassed for life about it... until then, my offer to buy you a pizza and a beer still stands :p

A little bit of digging around plugins and changing around the code helps a lot. You don't have to be a master Java programmer to understand the Bukkit API, or to insert a few printouts here and there for debugging :) Glad to hear the leaderboards are working for you again, though :)

Yep, that's the patch. The only things you need to change are the directions at the bottom. For some reason, Bukkit (or Mojang) decided to change around the directions, so west is the new north, east is the new south, etc. I have no clue as to why they felt the need to make this change, but it'll literally break any plugin that has a feature that relies on the directions :p

I sure hope you don't draw too much design inspiration from the current MobArena code base - it's hideous, has too many examples of bad style, and isn't very flexible. That said, there are plenty of other plugins that are much, much worse  Looking forward to the beer and pizza ^_^

I have taken a look at a few sources. I've even gone so far as to create a plugin for my server. Currently it does jack all but enable and disable. Well it has a couple of commands that work. I just don't know which route I should go. I've gotten myself fairly adept at begginer level c++ and since I grasp the very basic ideas there. I think most of them will xfer to java. I just don't know if I should go open my "java for dummies" book again and start from scratch learning the java language in general, or to continue poking around in other people's plugin source.

It would be cool if you could have record boards as well as leader boards. Same or similar stats as the leaderboard, but more permanent. Maybe show number of arenas played, favorite class, most kills, last wave, most damage done, most damage taken, etc. Ranked probably by last wave. Having their name ranked highest would definitely draw a lot of our servers players in.

Also, I have screwed up enchanted books twice now, is there a format for them I should use? I've been giving away enchanted "books", and then enchanted "enchanted _books" that don't work, and the masses are angry.

Hello. Can you make option which save experience by out of arena in .inv file? It's important to me beacouse i want to players use anvil and enchantment table in arena and do not lose experience of the outside arena. And can you add option to end arena if other player die except for one player and to Towny plugin: Mobarena have greater priority IN it that /town toggle pvp off. Thay will be usefull to PvP arena.

Try using ENCHANTED_BOOK as that is the technical bukkit name for the item. If that doesn't work, use 403 (the enchanted books data value)

Well if you do;

Enchanted_book 0:1 You end up with an enchanted book with the enchantment on it, that has blue text, and cannot be used on an anvil. Normal ones have yellow text.

Enchanted_book0:1 You end up with a useless statless enchanted book with white text.

Enchanted_book0:1:1 Just throws an error. Not sure what else to try.

Zarius, our otherdrops config is heavily modified for all mobs drops, including xp, from before we had the arena. We just have to get it sorted out. I'm guessing using both the in_mob_arena flag, and unique flag together, in the first spot for each mob will make it do just those drops while in arena, right?

Ever since I upgraded my server from 1.3 MobArena doesn't work! I have the CommandSigns plugin installed, and when I click the sign, it teleports me into the Mob Arena lobby, but then I'm not actually in the game, so I can't do /ma leave, because it says I'm not in the arena! So then I thought to myself: "Oh well, it's not that much of a hassle to have people jet type /ma join." But then when I type it out, it teleports me in, and I can select a class, but when I hit the Iron Block, it says "You have been flagged as ready!" Even though I'm the only person in the arena! Then I tried /ma force start, but I didn't have any class items! Long story short, MobArena isn't working. This is a pretty major issue, so if people had that particular issue, I would see another comment about it, which I didn't, so obviously there's something I in particular am doing to cause this issue. Please help!

CommandSigns doesn't work with MobArena.
You couldnt start the game because CommandSign inserted an empty/nil player - that was not you - into the arena and so MobArena thought it was still waiting for another player to be ready.

This is amazing! Although I do have two things to say. What do rewards do, and also, wolves do ot attack when they enter the arena, and when they enter the arena angry, they still don't attack.

ACStache

Definition of reward: something given or received in return or recompense for service, merit, hardship, etc.
Basically, you get more goodies for going farther in the arena :D

Wolves have a bug where they won't attack when told to attack by a plugin unless they get damaged themselves first

Hi all,

First i want to give my thanks to the authors for great plugin.

I have one little problem with writing down the rewards, concretely with items that have metavalue.
Like colored wool, mob heads etc. I have read the wiki so i found these instructions:

For example .... 144 Mob Head (http://www.minecraftdatavalues.com/)
For Zombie Mob Head there is metavalue 2 .... like 144:2

according to instructions i should write that into config file with this sintax:

mob_head:2:1 or 144:2:1 (according to mobarena wiki info - item id/item name:metavalue:reward count)

this string should give reward of one Zombie Head piece, but i still obtaining 2 pieces of Skeleton Head (which has item ID only 144)

Can anyone help? What did I do wrong please.

One more thing i have on my mind is that there is no complete list of compatible mobs which can be written down into waves config. I found that string wither-skeletons works, but when i wanted to kill some humans for a healing potion in supply wave it doesnt works, i have witten into monster section of wave config humans:3 (with pigs:3 it works fine)

So thanks in advance for all your advices
