  1. Hi! i've seen many authors that doesn't want to wait until their files are approved, cause some times takes really much time (i've waiting for 3 days and my last plugins versions still wainting), so they upload into dropbox to share faster, i just want to ask if this is "valid" or bukkit don't like this method, thanks!

No one likes downloading things from external sources, because no one checks them. However as long as you do not use adf.ly or something similar to link them there then you are free to do so.

Like I said though, no one likes to download from a shady source, even if its just dropbox.

    False

You may not link to external sites for downloads on BukkitDev.

Also, Goty_Metal please PM me a link to your file on BukkitDev that has been waiting for 3 days.

I thought only adf.ly links were not allowed? Guess I missed that

  7. I ask cause many plugins link dropbox mediafire etc files... if you want any example i can link some bukkitdev plugins to you to check.

Report any plugins that have mediafire or dropbox links for their plugins.

  9. Well, nolag, worldguard (famous) have used dropbox some times to upload their files before bukkit aproves them, but they're not using it now.

He meant using the BukkitDev report button :)

  11. Ah well again, that's why i asked, if i see "famous" plugins using that method to let users get the jars faster... i still have my plugins waiting, 2 days not 3 sorry, but 2 days still a bit log so that's why i asked :) i'll use the report button if i see again thanks!

You can already put the BukkitDev file link in the description of the plugin before it's approved. That's what I usually do (I also mention that it isn't approved yet).

Doing that is a sure way to get your page deleted. Don't do that please. Link to the page with the changelog instead.

What about linking to recent builds that would be inefficient for submitting to BukkitDev?

I'm talking source code that gets pushed ~10 times a day and goes through a ci.

What about Jenkins links? Not on the page, maybe in the comments with a clear warning?

We have decided to let CI links be allowed on the project pages, with clear warnings as to what they are. This is to allow developers to get test builds more easily available for public consumption. Combined with uploading builds regularly to DBO, this allows us to keep the community safe with our regular checks and balances.

If we find this is stopping devs from uploading files to their DBO page, we will ask you to remove the CI links and upload your builds instead. This may result in your project getting sent back as "Changes Required" which removes it from public view until those changes are complied with and the project is re-approved. We will not make the distinction between a large project and a small one - everyone is treated equally on DBO.

Personally, I would prefer people upload builds periodically, but I also understand the desire to have a subset of users test the development builds for problems. The best way to have a section of your users test your development builds is to be able to download them from your CI. However, developers must understand that the community craves safe content and we provide that measure of safety with our approval process.

CI = Continuous Integration. i.e. jenkins servers, usually used for building whenever you make development changes

  25. Ah! okei thanks :)
